Modest Mouse has been a revered band on the alternative and indie rock music scene in the United States for over a decade. Formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington and signed to Epic Records in 2000, the band has since released five studio albums and four EPs, attaining mainstream success only in 2004 with the smash “Float On” from Good News For People Who Love Bad News. The hit single propelled the album to platinum status, with sales in excess of 1.5 million, and the band received two Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Song (for “Float On”). The current line-up includes longtime members Isaac Brock (vocals/lyrics/guitar), Jeremiah Green (drums), and Eric Judy (bass), as well as Tom Peloso, Joe Plummer and the introduction of legendary guitarist Johnny Marr (The Smiths, The The). While the band started out in the booming Seattle rock scene of the 1990’s, they are now primarily based in Portland, OR, which is currently garnering attention as home to many of today’s indie darlings, such as The Shins and The Decemberists.

The band’s latest release, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, shot to a #1 debut on the Billboard Top 200 Album Charts in the US, selling 128,565 copies in its first week of release. The album also debuted at #1 on the Canada album charts and #12 in Australia – the highest chart positions the band has ever attained. To put this in perspective, in 2004 Good News… debuted at #19 in the US, selling 68,275 copies in its first week, and at #74 in Canada. “Dashboard,” the album’s first single, remained Top 5 at Alternative radio in the US and #2 at Alternative radio in Canada for the past 2 months.
