View Full Version : A really cool idea (Please give feedback!)

Ok... I have this posted in another thread, but I want to get it out there as a thread, because I think this is a very very cool idea, and I want to make it more visiable. We already know 2k5 was a great game, i would not be disapointed if they basically ported that game over with updated graphics, animations, and the obvious Anti-NFL stuff.
But what about this really cool mode. I am falling in love with this idea, although I expect some haters....
How cool would it be if u were a created player, u always play as him, from a zoomed 3rd person view, and when u are on defense (or whatever team you are not) then you can roam the sidelines, work out on the bikes, talk to trainers, communicate with players, look up plays, boost fan base, go into locker room, use the telephone, or just simply watch the game. You would have total control movement of this player, and from the 3rd person view. But there is also a factor where u have to pay attention to whats going on in the game, because u will obviously have to get back out on the field. You would have say 20 seconds or w/e time to get back to the field after change or possesion, or else your coach gets mad, and might bench you that drive or game or if u have a reputation of it, cut you. I think this would set the game totally apart from anything a sports game has ever done. I am seriously considering sending this to 2k VP's to see what they think of this in 2k9's edition. This would be absolutely amazing.
Any thoughts? Please respond

terrible idea. What fun would it be to spend half the game wandering the sidelines? That would get so tedious to do that every game. Now if it was just like an added on option, whatever I still would never do it. If it was like that for every game i would hate the game with a passion.

I'd rather see them give First Person Football another go. Your idea seems like the "Superstar" mode in Madden taken to the next level. I guess some would enjoy it, as long as it was just an optional mode, not the standard way to play the game.

Of course it would be a seperate mode. Like Dues said, it would be a superstar mode taken to the next level. Why would anyone want to play like that in a normal franchise? This would be for when you are strickly your own person in a totally different mode.

I like the idea of playing as one player, but I'll settle for 1st Person Football, which is a lot more fun than Madden's Superstar mode.
Walking around the sidelines...?...?.....uh, no.
A coach mode would be cool though.

Why would anyone want to play Madden minus the names, teams, stadiums, coaches, everything NFL related? 2K needs SOMETHING to set this way apart from Madden besides just smoother gameplay.

The first person football is so much fun, the problem is the camera and the lack of peripheal vision. If they could help stabilize the camera and give some greater width to the vision, it would be incredible. Also, if only one team could play this way instead of both, then you would have the 'superstar' mode described above for any given game against anyone you wanted to play.

How about a third person view as a defender (from the defender's side of the football). Maybe even a third person mode as offense too.

I would rather have the sped up time when off the field, only control your player, and have a TON of off the field stuff.. but still, a superstar mode taken to the next level

That would be there. I am talking about everything from the 3rd person zoom of your own player. Like a locked camera. Maybe people are getting the idea that I am not talking about playing at all, its just something to do when ur player is on the bench. When u are on the field, its regular gameplay, just in a 3rd person, zoomed camera locked on ur player.

........The time WOULD be sped up, you would have a mini screen of whats going on in the game, so you know when to be back, you ONLY control your guy that you are, but can interact with everything on the sidelines, and there would be tons of things to do every time you are on the bench. I dont understand all the hate on this. You (not you Prince) people could at least offer alternative ideas than just saying "thats dumb" or something completely unintelligent like 2-3 posters have already.

I guess I didn't read where you said about time being sped up.. anyways, i've always loved stuff like that, and I think it would be awsome.. but I would like the main focus to be on having a ton of stuff to do when you're out of the game(unlike madden where you just had stupid practices where you even picked the other sides plays.

That view wouldn't work Goldfiner because if the wide recievers ran downfield you would have no idea where they are.

Yea, that's why I never get to play CB in football games...

....? So you turn around? In real life you cant see behind you either. First person mode is the hardest to play because u have no periphel vision.

That's why in real life you turn around. First Person isn't as real as you think man. When you are rushing in at the side you can see downfield.
It still wouldn't work. I mean, you wouldn't be able to play cornerback or safety at all.

I see what you mean. Well i know thats how it was in Madden. I dont remember how they had it work. But thats all for 2k to decide, my main focus is the sideline activites to do while you wait to get back on the field. Because in Madden for the next gen systems, there is something like when u are not on the field, the game simply plays, and you just watch from the sidelines with a fixed camera. That sounds really boring to me, thats why i made up the idea for total control on the sidelines while you wait.

I played CB tons in 1st Person.Did you realise that you use the right stick to turn your head????
Most of the time on D I like to play LB.
1st Person rules, it is quite a realistic on-field simulator.I think that is what turns so many people off initially and so they never take the time to appreciate the quality.
You get more of a 'rush' from 1st person than you do the normal mode.I'm not saying it is better, but they are both great ways to play.
One thing that I would do is click the right stick replay button after a play and see what I did right or wrong. This was another cool feature of FPF that the regular mode didn't have, a replay button.
It definitely needed tweaking, but that was almost 3 years ago, I'm sure they have improved it greatly.
Well, either way, isn't it just smashing to actually know we will all be returning to the Promised Land?

Not really. I think it could still use a lot of work. Especially the blocking animations.

yea, FPF was much more realistic when you learned how to play with it

So what if the left joystick was to move (like it usually is) and the right joystick was to swivel the camera angle?

Sounds like: 2K's First Person Football meets Superstar mode meets NFL Head Coach to me, Monk....

It's a decent enough idea, but it sounds too much like Madden's Superstar mode. They mustn't steal anything at all from Madden, or give Madden fans any possible excuse as to why they "dislike" it.

BUt i mean, come on, all games "take" ideas from eachother. All the games now have some sort of "career"/superstar mode. The Shows, NCAA Football, NCAA Baseball, Madden, and I would assume the Basketball games do too.
I am more focusing my idea on the sidelines part of it. They can do it however they want on the field, but im throwing out the idea for some minigame senerios, and mass interactions. Because in real life, i would assume they do all/most of the things I mentioned, besides go into the locker room, but not everything has to be 100% as it is.

It would be very tricky to implement it in an entirely sim and non-tedious way.
For example, the 40-Yard Dash and Bench Press in Madden 07 was fun for awhile, then turned really stale and boring - fast.

I thought the 40-yard and Bench Press was really fun and cool, but i know what you mean. I think all the haters here think I meant this would be the MAIN MODE of the game. I dont mean that at all. This would be a seperate mode. When i play Madden, I usually never get through a whole season on Superstar mode because it bores me because its basically the same as Franchise, except I have no control over the team, and I feel i should be control ONLY my guy, and when im not on the field, it should not allow me to play with the other side of the ball, because then thats basically franchise mode, without any team options. I should be doing something entertaining on the sidelines, passing some time, and be more inovative.
