View Full Version : what needs to be fixed, and added.

First I would like to say that this is the best basketball game I've played since "Coach K".

Things that you should fix

#1: First and foremost you have to fix the AI of team mates. Offense and defense seems at times to become clueless. My base offense is the motion offense, why is it that none of my players are in motion? I shouldn’t have to call a play for them to move around, the whole point of the offense is to stay in motion. But I’ve seen my computer opponents back door cut my team plenty of times. Defensive wise why is it that the computer can pick my passes off while my team watches them go by? I've seen passes go through 3 defenders who just stood and watched the ball go by them.

#2: Second, charging call is none existent. Basically all the comp has to do is start its lay-up animation, if you just happen to be in the way you will be bowled over and charged with a blocking foul. I’ve gone as far as to run away from a player doing a lay-up only to have him climb my back. Most will say just press the "take a charge button" but it takes so long to set up that you would be better off just moving. Taking charges is a weapon that any great college defense needs to take advantage of. so give us the ability to do so.

#3: Free-throw shot 25 is glitched. For some reason it will randomly glitch out of the shooting animation and into you staring at the crowd. Not game breaking but it’s an eyesore especially for such a nice looking shot. (And depending on the timing of the glitch, it will cause your shot to be incredibly short. hitting the ground about 6 feet in front of you.)

#4: Fix the Create-a-chant. No it’s not glitched or anything. But why is it that I cannot assign a chant to be a free-throw only chant? Foul only chant? Dunk only chant? Block only chant? Rival only chant? Create-a-chant is a genius idea, but give us more options to play with.

Now to what needs to be added, if you read this 2k and I hope you do. Please take these suggestions into consideration.

#1 we need more Specific dunks. What I mean by that is that we need more dunks that are moment and player specific. Like, there should be dunks that are big man specific, (Why is my 610, 280 pound Power Forward doing a reverse dunk better suited for Lebron James? He should be throwing it down as hard as possible when ever he gets a chance. ) there should be dunks that are speed specific,(You cannot do certain dunks going full speed, and you cant do other dunks jogging) there should be dunks that are area specific, (you should not be able to do certain dunks in a crowded lane) and some dunks should be height specific. (please animate a dunk for short people, alot of these dunks look odd when someone 5'10 is doing them.)

There should be more post move dunks.
I recount facing up in the post, driving to one direction only to perfectly spin around my defender ending up right in front of the rim. You know how I finished this awesome post move? With a jump shot from 2 feet away from the basket, and it bounced out no less.

There should be more contact specific dunks. If the bold and underline wasn’t a big enough hint, this could be a really big addition to this game. And its something that NBA 2k7 did very well. You should have a nice amount of dunks in this game that can only be done when someone’s contesting it. These contested dunks can end in a big block or in a facial or even in just a missed dunk. But I don’t see why you can’t have it in there. Now not every contested dunk should be animation specific, because in real life you rarely get a dunk like that. Usually someone is just in the lane, but you rarely get a dunk that’s full blown contact with a defender. I think it would make the game that much more exciting.

#2: We need more of the college atmosphere within the games.
I feel that this is something that every college game should have over any major league game. We need to have the home court be a factor, because it is in real life. Where are the Cameron crazies? Where are my insane Tar Heel fans? These places are intimidating to play in if you’re the opposing team, so let’s make it a factor with in the game. If you have a team with a few freshman players they should be quite rattled playing against duke at home. And if I’m playing as Duke, I want my home court to be feared by opposing teams. Take lessons from NCAA football 2007, unity and home court advantage should go hand in hand. With out good unity your team should have a difficult time playing in these stadiums. With it you would be able to stand against the crowd. I can’t be the only one excited about the thought.

Cameron crazies can be quite
Intimidating to a freshman

#3 teams need to talk!
I play college ball, and the most important thing for a team on defense is communication. A quite team loses. Now I’m not saying we need hours of dialog. But I call a screen, I should hear the other team call it out, failure to do so should end with a floored defender. Maybe hearing your PG call out a play. I’m not saying we need continuous speech through out the whole game. But every once in awhile I should hear someone talking.

#4 EMOTION!!
C’mon 2k Sports, this is college! Where’s the emotion? I win in double overtime off of a last second shot against my rival, and I don’t get any kind of reaction from my players!? People stay on the bench, no hugs, no hand shaking!? Why!? There has to be a reason. Purdue pulls an upset over UNC and not only is there no one charging onto the floor, but no one even really celebrates, other than the mediocre clapping. My coach isn’t arguing with refs, no ones slapping the floor on defense, no ones helping there team mate off the ground after an “and 1”. (A no-no punishable by a day of suicides) The most shocking is that the one thing that got me pumped in the beginning about this game; the stomp stomp clap portion of the quick game menu, followed by the pep talk by the coach. Is disturbingly absent from the legacy mode. It would be pretty cool to get ready to play a home game and listen to the pre-game prep talk detailing the key points to winning, while you hear your fans going wild in the stadium. I mean c’mon, college is all about playing for the love, leaving out on the court, you have to give a sense of energy.

#5 Practice
I was very shocked at the amount of drills this game had, and I enjoyed them. I spent an hour doing the 3 on 3, 2 on 3, and 2 on 1 fast break drill. But I was kind of disappointed that I could not do these drills with my own team in my legacy. Something small sure, but I would like the option of practicing with my team. It doesn’t have to be required that you spend said time practicing, but I would like the option.

Well that’s all I can think of right now…

To Man-o-Vert.

Yo! I think you get the point when it comes to a forum about a game. You even went as far as adding a picture. Just like I've posted in the AP2k8 mostly gameplay details, I feel ya folk. But one attribute I would like to see on 2k7/8 is the ability to tell your team how to play/who to play off of on offense. For instance, in 2k4 "I think", you could tell them to give the ball to the Superstar or more Team.

Great post bruh.

I do agree with most of your points, but there are some that I do not.

Although you don't see "home-court advantage," teams with low unity don't perform as well on the road. They will miss shots that they will make at home.

I have 360, and although there could be more emotion, if a team is on a run or its time for a last second shot, the bench is standing up watching the play.

Another thing I would like to see is higher a.i. online. Its to easy for cheesers to do what they do best. At least give sim players a chance against Greg Oden's spinning hop-step dunks in the lane.

"Although you don't see "home-court advantage," teams with low unity don't perform as well on the road. They will miss shots that they will make at home."

But like you said, you don't see it. if i don't notice it, than why put it in. and there is a difference between teams with low unity not performing well on the road. and a team with low unity being rattled by the camron crazies. everyones home stadium does not hold the same mystique. i mean theres a difference between going to play against Purdue at home, and going to play at duke. opposing teams that are not up to the task literally fear playing duke at home because the atmosphere is just unreal. they need to be able to convey that in the next game. in short, your unity should be effected based on where you are playing at the time. not just "away=bad unity, Home=good unity"

"I have 360, and although there could be more emotion, if a team is on a run or its time for a last second shot, the bench is standing up watching the play."

but the bench doesn't even show that much emotion. Example: 4th quarter and my SG hits a fade away three to put the game out of reach in the last 30 seconds of the game. do you know what my bench was doing? nothing. what about the team mates on court? they didnt even react. now I'm not saying there are no reactions period. because there are sometimes, but its just so inconsistent.

my defense deflects a pass out of bounds and they begin to complain about it like they turned the ball over. they just really need to take time and capture the emotions that college basketball is known for. i want my team to slap the ground every once in awhile on defense to show the other team they are ready to play. try to pump up the crowd after a dunk, tell the crowd to make some noise. hell i would like to hear someone call out a screen or a switch, college basketball is loud on the floor and in the stands. they need to make it so in the game.

Hey there!
Good thread! I hope 2k people will read what the fans have to say...

I would had to the "Presentation side" Please buy the CBS sportsline license...with the song you know? I am a canadian and we dont have much NCAA games in here but...when the March Madness comes...you just to have the feel...

2- update live scores of other teams playing at the same time..
3- Please indicate the seeds of team during a game..it's always fun to have the seed beside the team name during the game..
That's it...I know that could sound geek...but I bloody love the college experience and need to have this and the suggestions offered by MAn-0-Vertigo to really feel it!

Cheers!

I agree with the person talking bout the team not showing that much emotion, but I would rather see the gameplay totally finetuned and perfected rather then my bench going crazy and my graphics laging or glitching.

I think that 2k8 should add for the legacy/recruiting is a momentum bar of high schoolers that are coming into your college . like for instance, when you recruit a high profile high schooler there should be a gauge bar if the player has more potential to leave the school after his 1st year to the nba, or have a gauge bar stating if hes staying at school for all four years, to somewhat give each individuallity to each player. Also if you recruit a top recruit like of greg oden status of kevin durants, maybe that influences another big time recruit to come to your school and give the recruits a chance of winning a championship.

Second i think that they should have a discipline policy like most colleges do if the student athlete doesnt perform well in classes, or has a off the court incident which could be dentrimental to his college team. That would effect the teams next game for a certain amount of time that one player is suspened of even kicked off the team

Emotion should be treated as part of the game play. This is why College sports are so intriguing. When my teammates stand there like they are constipated after a game winning shot, this really brings down the "wow" factor for me.

great ideas. i think man-o-vertigo hit the nail right on the head when it comes to emotion in college basketball. I really hope 2k looks at what this thread has said because if they put everything that was said in here we would be in for one of the top college bball games made in a long long time.

this is very minor but i just think it would be cool to have the players major listed. it would add more character to the players. smidgen more realism.

They also need some new game modes. They should have a mode where you have to create a highschool player. And you only can play with your player in probably 1st person view or either 3rd person view. And you have to be the leader of your team and try to lead them to the state championships. And then recruits would be at the game and looking at how you play and if you are what they team needed. And then the schools that are interested in scouting you will offer you a scholarship. And then you have to try to make a name for yourself at that school. And if you are like a ball hog then you will get benched unless the school focuses on the star player. That game would be the best college b-ball game ever made. Thats what most people want in a game a simulation where you can be yourself.

ok, i don't have much to say 'cause i really love this game. but a couple things i have thought of are:

1. the graphics in this game are amazing. but most of the players (and when i say most, i mean all) don't actually look like the players in real life. i know this is NCAA game and you probably can't make them perfect (nba2k7 is done very well), but i hope you can come a little closer to reality.

2. i have both ch2k7 and nba2k7, and when i play one game, and then go to other game, i get really confused on some of the controls. i think you should make to controls for each game the same. when i play my seasons, i try keep up with the real teams and compare my records to theirs. but like i said, i have trouble going back and forth. i have to relearn all the controls each time i play each game.
