I'd have started the All-Pro Football 2008 project with this in mind.. " This may be our last shot at a football game until 2010. We need to go all out this year and cause some friction amongst the gaming world while we can." Legends or generic names, it won't matter. Just go all out!!
If 2K Sports does this, we are in for one heck of a Summer!!

This has been one of my main points. 2K MUST make a big splash with this game. It doesn't have to translate all into sales (although topping 1 million is ideal). It just has to make waves and aide in making the NFL second-guess the exclusive license idea.

guys dont worry. you see all what 2k has to do is what they have always done keep thier eyes on the prize this game will be good because they are making the first important step. they put customers first and also they know that ea is gonna put themselves out because they are burning themselves out

This is what I've been waiting to see from ANY gaming company. Think of games like, GTA on Nex-Gen. We've all seen the vids from last year's E3. Lost Planet, Resistance: Fall of Man, Gears of War, Tekken 5.... if ANY gaming company can sit back, and make graphics like those for a football game, or any sports game for that matter, it's pandamonium.
I havent seen it. Or any attempt. And I'm expecting this with the Nex-Gen. EA blew it. 2 years str8 we've seen horror from Madden on Nex-Gen. As well as NCAA. NBA 2K looks ok. but not quite as real and sharp as I expected.
This is the kind of ALL OUT I speak of.

I agree, Dawg.
I believe that they've come up with some really outstanding new idea to make All Pro stand out, kinda like they did in 2K5 with VIP. A lot of what is touted as 'new' had really been done before, but VIP was truly new.
I don't think that VIP ever really got its props, which is a shame because it was one of the alltime best ideas ever to be included in a football game. I used it constantly. It was the one thing that proved to me more than anything else that 2K is a developer that actually thinks about how to improve gameplay instead of how many more copies they can sell.
Maybe it took Visual Concepts these past two years to come up with and implement this new idea.
Food for thought.

I think that VC smells blood in the water. I played Madden 07 and NCAA 07 extensively (I had to see for myself next-gen football), and both left me cold, both pretty but not deep, flashy but not engaging. As soon as 2KSports "shook up the [football gaming] world" in announcing APF 2K8, I immediately traded in those games and went back to playing NFL 2K5 (Well, it's NFL 2K7 to me if you know what I mean). This seems to be the general consensus out there about these games, and surely VC sees this. What a chance they are taking, and they have my support for it....

Madden pretty?
Seriously, we are all mad at EA for bad gameplay, stupid A.I., no innovation (fill in the blank, really), even the blind EA diehards are pi**ed because EA hasn't listened to them.
What better time for 2K to strike than now?

Yeah, my point exactly. Madden and NCAA are far from pretty. More cartoonish if anything. Pretty is looking at Lost Planet, or Resistance: Fall of Man.
You can't place Madden's graphics in the same category as those. And I have a PS3 by the way. Lost Planet is on the 360. Still gorgeous. Also, God of War on the PS2 is pretty. Shadow of the Colossus is pretty. Madden is............ *doh*

The VIP system is truly one of the greatest(and most underappreciated) advances in videogame technology.
I created over 30 team specific Virtual Identity Profiles and the games were always more exciting than simply playing against the 1 size fits all CPU logic.
I also had some great games in my franchises against VIP for NBA2k6 and MLB2k 6.Oddly enough, you cannot play against VIP in Association for either NBA2k7 or College Hoops2k7, even though the manual for NBA2k7 says that you can.
I am very hopeful that both AP2k8 and MLB2k7 will allow you to play against VIP in their Franchise modes, and not just Exhibition games(which luckily NBA and College Hoops still allow)
Why 2k took away that feature for 2k7 is beyond me, since in NBA2k6 it elimanated the need to use sliders.
I feel that since AP Football2k8 will be a customization type game that it would be very wise for 2k to allow the implementation of VIP in Franchise mode, as this would allow people to custom design different teams logic, or download profiles off of the internet to play against(in Franchise as well)
