i hear they may expand the number able to qualify, is this true?? because it would be nice, there seems to be alot more active players than last year.

2kHoopster (the head of the tournaments) made this post earlier this week:

"The fact of the matter is that at least 192 people will qualify--we haved define a number for legal reasons. If 5000 play enough games and show enough interest, then way more than 192 people will wind up qualifying."

Last year, we qualified too many people which resulted in tons of no-shows in the earlier rounds. We are trying to qualify as many people as possible while making sure the games will actually be played.

Here is a more elaborate post 2kHoopster put up:

"Honestly, the way it will work is if there are enough people interested in competing in this tournament--interest being defined as registering and playing more than 10 online games during the qualification period--we will let in as many as we can, up to a multiple of 16 (since we need 16 teams to fill out a bracket).

Basically, if you register and play more than 10 online games this month, chances are pretty good--though admittedly not definite--that you will get into the tournament even if you are not in the top 44 on Xbox or 148 on 360.

So for example, if 322 Xbox 360 people register and play more than 10 online games--we will most likely be letting 320 people into the tournament (multiple of 16, so 20 brackets) and have to cut the last two people on the leaderboard.

All of this is because what we did not want to have happen is to say there would be 320 people admitted to the tournament and then only have 200 register AND play 10 games to qualify. We would wind up with 120 people who maybe registered but never played an online game and who therefore would be definite no shows in the first round--a major problem that was flagged for us from last year's tourney."

Hopefully, he is not pulling my chain and I get in the tournament and the achievement with my #500 seed (I've played my 10 online games already).

Nope, no chains being pulled. There will definitely be way more than 192 people let into the tournament this year. How many is still unclear yet as there is a lot of time left for people to register and play.

We do not have an unlimited amount of resources though, and herding all of you cats is a real chore for the admins. Would love to let in everyone who plays their 10 games, but that will not happen I am afraid, so keep playing, get that ranking as high as possible, and cross your fingers...

i think i will be able to get to #300 but higher than that is a difficult task.

I think it would be a good idea to add as many as possible for achievement sake. People play for achievements and giving as many as possible a chance to get it is good business.

However, I think there should be a minimum games played like 10 or 20.

yea, the minimum games amount is 10. i think a fair qualification number would the top 1000 considering 4000+ registered and 2500+ completed their 10 online games.

now that we are getting closer to the end of the qualification period, is there a more roundabout number of people who will make the tournament?

i would also like to know bc at this point i think everyone who is interested in getting in the tournament has already played their 10 online games.

Do we have an approx range of how many will get in yet?

Looks like I'll be on the outside looking in this year unless I rip off a nice streak here,
