View Full Version : should they think twice before not making 2K current gen?

I know I might get flamed for this, but I'm just putting this out there cause I want to see this game sell well. (please read whole post)
I understand that 360 and PS3 graphical power and hardware that would would possibly allow for the best and most realistic football experience. but I read something on MSN sceince/tech section about a week ago that made me think. it was a very basic article (more like paragraph) about the "console wars winter/holiday winner" and they said PS2. I said whhhaaaaa!? and it said that the PS2 sold more than the 360, PS3, and Wii. it just kinda made me think that 2K should have thought about putting out a current gen version/title. because although there is more of a limit on current gen, there is a VERY wide audience, and if they were to put this out for current gen, they could develop more of a following for when the people with current gen decide to get next gen systems.
and I'm not saying "oh this game is gonna fail since it didn't put it out for current gen," I'm just saying it could be something to think about since there is such a wide audience for current gen.
I'm also not saying to JUST make it for current gen, just put out a current gen version as well.

Making a LAST generation game (PS2 or XBOX) would be a huge mistake. It would just hold them back from pushing the envelope.

exactly.. sorry to current gen guys, but they need to advance the game as far as they can and the only way they can do that is to make it next-gen only..

yeah I can see what you mean. in my opinion, I think that they've had enough time to not only develop a more than state of the art next gen football game, but also to make current gen versions.
I'm not saying to make each version the same either. theres room for more innovation and such for the next gen systems, so I would expect those to be better both graphically, and gameplay wise. to be "successful" this game also need to sell, and I think the best way for it to sell would be to release current gen versions as well.

Except, the point is is that they can't make the game the same. So, since they can't port it, they would need to take up a lot of time and resources to make the game for current gen... holding back the next-gen game

I could be wrong, but there are 2 reasons i can think of.
1. there could be an issue with the sales of the game. 2k might be hesitant on spending alot of time, money, and effort for the current gen sytems. we know the hardcore 2k fans will buy this game. but the question is will the fairweather fans that play madden buy this game without the nfl liscense. 2k probably wants to put a large effort into the next gen sytems to make the best game possible, and prove it is the best football game. 2k is still in an uphill battle.
2. There was an interview when the game was announced with greg thomas (pres of VC) and gamespot. He qoutes that the level of customization in the game will be much what we expect from 2k. If there is a high level of customization in this game, then ps2 and xbox, probably dont have what it takes to hold a game like this. 2k is well aware of the demands on this game, and im sure they are tryin like hell to meet the big demands and have alot of features in this game. A current gen console would only make this game look embarrasing.

I guess I can see where you're coming from but it would take away from the next generation game if they made it for current generation as well.

It's all a moot point, because the game isn't coming out for XBOX and PS2.
It's a done deal.

NFL2K, I'm with you.
It's done. Only next gen.
Hoo-frickin'-ray!
Don't get me wrong: all this debate is fun, but there is no argument here.
I'm not saying this because I happen to have a 360, because just having it and nothing else current besides handhelds (my PS2 died some time ago and my Xbox 1 got traded in for 360) has its disadvantages too.
I can't play ESPN NFL 2K5 anymore.
(sniff)
I know that they are expensive, but get a next gen system. I prefer the 360, just because of the superior online system they have installed.
If I was on the fence about buying a new system, the annoucement about this game being only next gen would make me decide....
....really quickly.

Sorry to say but ps2 and xbox are old-gen, they now join the list of nintendo 64 and playstation 1. PS3 and XBOX 360 are the current gen...i don't know about the wii though, that things just weird.

This is my 2 cents on this topic... there are alot of people who arent as fortunate as other to be able to afford another system... espcially if they went a ps3....i want this game... but im not spending 450 altogether for the 360 and that is at the cheapest... and 600-900 for the ps2 altogether....i hope they look at the big picture as alot of people just arent ready to blow money on a system.... JUST FOR A GENERIC GAME...honestly the only other game im looking forward 2 is resident evil 5.....im sticking with current gen.. and if 2k8 decides not to support current gen.... oh well

You make a good point, Mill.
I happen to love my 360, warts and all. But if the only game I wanted to play on it was All Pro, well, I guess I'd be missing out on some good football.
I love the thing because of the great games already out, and because of the ones coming up this year.
My PS2 is dead and I want to play God of War 2 when it comes out. But I'm not gonna buy another PS2 or a PS3 just for one game.
In fact, I won't be buying a PS3 until they get a better online system, lower the price, and start having amazing games that I can never get on 360.
