View Full Version : Those Who Have The Show '07 (PLEASE READ!)

I figure since there are many here who are disappointed with 2K7 for the PS2, and have switched to The Show '07, you guys could help me with my questions:

Okay. Since I'm righteously ****ed at 2K7 for putting out an insanely mediocre baseball title yet again, and having the rosters and ratings and even free agents all screwed up, I'm very close to switching to MLB '07: The Show. However, there are a few questions I need to ask:

1.) Can you edit players, attributes, equipment, etc.?

2.) Same as #1, but during a season/franchise mode?

3.) Is there more than one view for pitching? I love to pitch from behind the pitcher (i.e. television camera), but I haven't seen any screens showing this. Is this available in the game?

4.) How are the ratings?

5.) Are there sliders to adjust difficulty?

6.) How close is this to MVP? I realize this may be an oft-asked question, but I loved MVP, and didn't necessarily mind 2K's game, except for the fact that 2K7 seems to be horrid.

7.) I played MLB 2003 (or 2004 I think) for the PS2 a couple of years ago, and really didn't like it. Has the gameplay changed much since then, and is it more MVP-like?

8.) Is there a throw meter?

9.) Is there a way to influence the direction of your swing (like in MVP 2005) where you hold the left analog stick in a particular direction and then swing with the x-button?+-

10.) This may seem stupid, but how are the individual player animations? Are the batting stances correct? How about pitching stances? Off the track a bit, do they have Chien Ming Wang's correct windup animation?

11.) How is fielding? Tighter than in 2K? How is the dive/jumping?

12.) Bugs. I hesitated buying The Show '06 because of things like an insane number of passed balls and freezing. Have any of you noticed any such bugs or problems?

13.) How is hitting in general...when I watch the Show videos, it seems like the swing comes before the ball a bit, and doesn't look natural.

14.) Pitching. How does it work, and is it realistic? Do the pitchers have their correct pitches, do they have the correct animations, do the grips correlate with the pitches?

15.) How is roster management...can you cut, sign, create a player, etc.? Someone said you can't manually update the rosters, but I can't believe that. Can I save my own roster and then use it in franchise mode? I don't have online with my PS2, so updating is impossible.

I really appreciate all of your help. I love baseball, and I've been dying for these games to come out, but since I've heard 2K7 is really bad this year, and I'm stuck with my PS2, I'd love to hear your input on this game.

Thanks!
DJ

Does The Show have real prospects (with fake names of course) in the minors?

Prime Time
February 28th, 2007, 02:20 PM
1. Yes. They do not have number rating though, it is a bar that shows how good they are. It takes a little getting used to, but once you figure it out it's cool.

2. I'm having so much fun just playing single games, I haven't touched franchise yet.

3. The default view is from behind the catcher and it uses an MVP NCAA style. I'm not sure if you can switch the camera, but I'll check later on and tell you.

4. Since they don't uses number ratings it's a little hard to tell, but each player I've used and play against seems to be very close to their real life counter parts. I don' know how they will fair in a season though.

5. I believe so.

6. I never played MVP, but from some screens I've seen it looks very close (I think).

7. First year playing this, never played MVP... 2K only.

8. For pitching, yes... fielding, no.

9. Yes. The left analog stick influences the direction of your swing. X is swing but square is power swing.

10. Haven't played with the Yankees, but from what I've seen the Giants look pretty good.

11. Fielders move a little fast for my take, but I'll adjust the sliders for that. Throwing is smooth, and dives are pretty smooth also.

12. No freezing, I've had a couple passed balls... but those were all my fault.

13. It's so so... hitting is a little difficult to time, I haven't gotten it right on a constant bases but I getting better.

14. It uses the pitching meter and you select your pitch then you pick it's spot. I think it's realistic. The windups are better than 2K, in my opinion, and I have no clue about the grips.

15. All those things are possible. Editing players, creating players, and editing teams all have their separate sections so it's much different than 2K but it's more organized once you learn where everything is.

One last thing. I was going to buy a 360 soon, but I have to rethink my entire plan, because The Show has made me want to buy a PS3!

About the minor leagues. They have some prospects, more than 2K (I think). I don't know how it works for "Road to the Show" I'll be playing with that latter on.

yeah the show is sweet, I liked last year's implementation but right now am waiting on it to get released on the PS3.

If you have a PS2, no brainer, The show will be 100x better than 2k7, I still can't get over the fact that Shawn Green is rated 98, ROFL.

I don't know if the rosters expand to 40.

But I do know that you can do everything with the minor league teams that you can do with the MLB teams. yes, you can play with them, manage their lineups and pitching rotations.

It even has spring training.

Well, I don't normally listen to what people on message boards say, but the level of vehemence from you lot made me go and buy The Show and let me tell you...

The difference is night and freaking day. The second the game loaded my reaction was "holy crap this is better!"

I'm still figuring out the controls, but so far every single thing about this game seems to blow 2K7 out of the water- graphics, motion, commentary, presentation, I could go on and on. I'm frankly in awe.

The one frustrating element is the controls, as I said. The pitching system is rather screwy to me but its likely just because I'm still used to MVP '05.

In any case, thanks to all you guys for recommending this game and to 2KSports... sorry lads, you got blewed up REAL good on this one.

Hey Prime Time, you seem a font of knowledge on the subject...

In The Show, when it talks about "influence hit ball" with the right stick, how the hell does that work? Do you need three hands or am I just not thinking about this correctly?

I believe you influence the hit with the left analog stick. You swing with "X" and if you want to hit to left field push the left stick to the upper left hand corner... for right filed push it to the upper right hard corner.

I've started the new career mode. It's very cool. I'll post more about it later and I'll look up Francisco's rating for you.

Both the on-screen info and the game manual definately mention the right stick, but I don't really understand what it means. To quote the manual (p. 7):

Swing Direction in zone: left analong stick
Swing: X
Power Swing: square
[Bunt]: circle
~
Influence hit ball: right analog stick

So I must ask: huh? Were the playtesters Hindu deities?

i like the show a lot but ive always had 2 problems with it

the fielding is way too easy why in the world does the computer have to help u move your fielder? even when the assist mode is turned off

and i feel they need to make the hitting harder its really too easy

i dont know if those problems still remain in 07 but other than that its a great game

The only reason that Sony can make an MLB game, from what I understand, is that they are not a 3rd party developer. Otherwise, we would be stuck with 2k only since they signed the exclusive deal with Major League Baseball. The baseball landscape has certainly changed for PS2 over the past 5 years or so - and not for the better.

How many remember when it was basically a choice between EA's version, and High Heat? I may be showing my age. I am old school though, my first baseball game was on a Radio Schack TRS 80 - stick guys with a single overhead view. You could enter a lineup and enter an average for each hitter. The average you entered controlled how good of a hitter he was.

Eventually, All Star Baseball (Acclaim), and 989's version started to gain a loyal customer base. I believe that 2k was a late entry into the baseball game market on PS2. If they had not signed exclusive deals with ESPN and then MLB, they may not have a good enough game to be competitive.

I think it was better before when "the market" chose which games were good sellers rather than having exclusive deals.

I'm a Reds fan. So for my interests, I like how 2K7 has Joe Morgan announcing and the 1976 Reds team (need to unlock).

Does the Show have classic teams like the Big Red Machine?

Does the Show have prospects like Josh Hamilton and Homer Bailey? I am still trying to find who the fake names are for these guys in 2K7.

Double-J

Some prospects are in, some aren't. I haven't seen Bailey, he may be, but Hughes and Sanchez aren't on the Yankees, I have to CAP them.

BrandH

Alot of the prospect's cant be in there because of the Players Union. If they haven't made it to the majors they are not part of the union, therefore there official liscence dosen't apply to these players and they cannot use their likeness without permission

You can thank EA Sports, the NFL, and MLB for this exclusive nonsense.2k has never been afraid to compete and only did this to stay even with EA, who had already garnered the NFL deal.

Now you can go have another bowl of dumbfck.

Both games are good. I'm torn. I played show last year.

Nothing wrong with 2k7 (Graphics are still boring but the game play feels better than Show).

I'm so torn I don't know which one to keep playing.

The Show is missing ejections, managers and coaches, but offers a lot more franchise depth. But it's feilding mechanics and animations still feel scripted.

I like 'em both, EVEN 2k7 which usually sucks.

It's a tough call.

There's actually a lot I like about 2K7, but it is SO unbelievably glitched and half-arsed that The Show is extremely pleasing to me (particularly the guess-hitting system that really benefits the reflexically challenged me).

I should also note that others online have complained about slow-downs and other such things in The Show, but I have not experienced that at all after six, seven complete games. Perhaps they simply don't understand the mechanics of solo play versus internet play.

Instead of buying either game, I will rent both first. But from what I've seen, 2K7 is 2K6 with "updated" rosters. Graphically it looks the same and although I liked 2K6, I got tired of dominating all the time. I hope the show gives me a challenge. Does anyone know whether or not there is a significant change in difficulty when switching from one to another (say veteran to all-star)? Because in the 2k series, the only difference I see is when you are batting. There is some in pitching but I can still dominate. (i.e. strike out 11 batters a game on average while allowing 2, 3 or less runs.)

There is a huge franchise bug in the show.

When you play a game, your team, and every team in the league's managment staff disappears. No one paying management expenses, and I'd assume player development is adversley affected.

Too bad too, because the game has more depth and is graphically better. Not a knock on 2k7..just saying.

Actually, this is the first year I liked 2 competitor's games. I'd have been satisfied with either save for the flaws. This year though The Show has the most serious I've seen so far.

Not only is MLB 07: The Show much better than 2K7, you also get a free baseball cap from your favorite team when you buy The Show.

I know I am a bit late but I am new to this. For the most part the answer to all of your questions are yes yes yes...! It's the perfect baseball sim. I never looked at MLB 2K7. The only gripe I have with The Show is that you can't really jump on the warning track. You can make the out but it's not as spectacular as it should be. The animations are excellent. You can edit just about every player on your team except you can't change any real player's names. The franchise is the most deepest mode ever in a sports game. Buy it! You won't regret it.

The Show, quite frankly, is baseball done right. I traded in my 2k7 for it and have been happy ever since. I will NEVER buy a 2k product again...ever.

You did this to me so right back at ya 2k sports...

Haven't tried, but I think you coud.

2.) Same as #1, but during a season/franchise mode?same as the first.

3.) Is there more than one view for pitching? I love to pitch from behind the pitcher (i.e. television camera), but I haven't seen any screens showing this. Is this available in the game? I believe you can change it, and in career mode it is automatic.

4.) How are the ratings?
great, nearly perfect.

5.) Are there sliders to adjust difficulty?
yes

6.) How close is this to MVP? I realize this may be an oft-asked question, but I loved MVP, and didn't necessarily mind 2K's game, except for the fact that 2K7 seems to be horrid.
It's got some of the same controls as MVP, however, there is no throwing meter.
7.) I played MLB 2003 (or 2004 I think) for the PS2 a couple of years ago, and really didn't like it. Has the gameplay changed much since then, and is it more MVP-like?
Sony has scrapped that entire gameplay. So it is nothing like that and is somewhat MVP like.
8.) Is there a throw meter?
for pitching

9.) Is there a way to influence the direction of your swing (like in MVP 2005) where you hold the left analog stick in a particular direction and then swing with the x-button?+-
yes
10.) This may seem stupid, but how are the individual player animations? Are the batting stances correct? How about pitching stances? Off the track a bit, do they have Chien Ming Wang's correct windup animation?
everything is correct, they even have inbetween pitch animations that are perfect.
11.) How is fielding? Tighter than in 2K? How is the dive/jumping?
it can be a little confusing at times, but it is still pretty good
12.) Bugs. I hesitated buying The Show '06 because of things like an insane number of passed balls and freezing. Have any of you noticed any such bugs or problems?
nope, none.
13.) How is hitting in general...when I watch the Show videos, it seems like the swing comes before the ball a bit, and doesn't look natural.
hitting is good, especially if you figure out the system of the pitcher. The guess pitch and location feature is great and makes it feel like you are playing a real game, and trying to scout the other guy.
14.) Pitching. How does it work, and is it realistic? Do the pitchers have their correct pitches, do they have the correct animations, do the grips correlate with the pitches?
they all have the correct pitches, there are even different curves. Baik for the RSox even as the gyro ball.
15.) How is roster management...can you cut, sign, create a player, etc.? Someone said you can't manually update the rosters, but I can't believe that. Can I save my own roster and then use it in franchise mode? I don't have online with my PS2, so updating is impossible.
yes you can do all that. Just change the roster management before starting a career or franchise.
I really appreciate all of your help. I love baseball, and I've been dying for these games to come out, but since I've heard 2K7 is really bad this year, and I'm stuck with my PS2, I'd love to hear your input on this game.

Thanks!
DJ
ok, i guess i'll just fill in 10 spaces. That should be enough.

The only bad part about The Show is no Dice K, unless he has an alias of Baik.

Ok i just recently got this game for my PS2.

1. I not sure i this one, but i think you cant edit anything except for the players.

3. Yes, you can switch from behind the pitcher, or catcher's view when pitching.

4. Very good, ALOT better the 2k7.

5. Yes ( But do not use rookie once you get the hang of this game, because it is INSANELY easy.)

6. Never played MVP so i wouldn't know.

7. Agian i wouldn't know.

8. Yes

9. No, you can however decide the power of your swing (except on rookie)

10. For the most part the batting animations are mostly correct, but not too many different stances for the pitchers.

11. Fielding is easy, no turbo, and dive/jumping is easy as well.

12. Well i haven't found any bugs, but the baserunning in this game is HORRIBALE.

13. Looks realistic.

14. You can choose from Classic pitch which is moving the ball in the desired location, or Meter pitch which you control the placement of the ball as well as the speed and effectiveness of the pitch.

15. You can cut, sign, and i im pretty sure you can create a player ( i haven't tried it out yet though) You can manually update you roster, and update it into a franchise.
