I know this might be a stupid question, but I'm having a really hard time taking balls when playing online. Does anyone have any tips to help them determine if its going to be a ball?

Just use the batters eye and try to guess right.

Last year, I really didn't have an issue with this. I played over 200 games online, and not once found myself uncomfortable. Except, the time I came home late from the bar, and tried to play, but that's a whole different story in itself, lol. This year, however, I find myself a little uncomfortable and a little less patient. What I'm trying to do in order to get back into the swing of things, is my 'step'. I'm starting off a little earlier stepping (about 1 - 1.5 seconds before the pitcher releases the ball), which then, gives me more time to decipher whether its a ball or strike. I have found that this way is slowly getting me back to my normal stride. Try it out. Hopefully it helps ya.

I find the trick is you have to jknow the count like real baseball. Like 0-2 you have a good chance of getting a ball while 2-0 or 2-1 you will probably get a strike. Also Tried to memorize your oppenets habits online like what he does for each count. It will usually take an inning or two. Also check the pitchers player card and see what he throws this way you have an idea of whats coming. The only pitcher I cant hit is Orlando hernandez the damn eephus pitch

D0m, that eephus pitch is annoying!!!!!! I know it's a part of baseball but people tend to get cheezy with that pitch. I played someone last night that used him and he CONSTANTLY threw it to me. After striking me out 15 times, I FINALLY adjusted to it by the 7th inning and got my revenge by rocking him for a 3-run shot to go ahead to win the game. But that pitch is tough to hit, especially, when they throw it in the dirt. It takes patience but eventually if you sit on one and connect, you'll be alright! You really need patience in this game especially if you play online. You can't be swinging at everything otherwise people will only throw you ball after ball. You really need to pretend that it is you up at bat in a real game situation. Effin EEPHUS!!!! lol

In my league I lowered the pitch speed to 35. It makes for much more realistic at bats because you can actually see the pitch.

lol i use el duque, but i dont cheese the eephus pitch i use it about 10-15 times out of like 80 pitches and i like to think im gonna throw it and than throw a heat right down the middle they miss every time...and i do AVG 14 Strike out a game throwing 95% Strikes...

but on topic..

Follow the pitchers hand of release, you can kind of judge right off the bat...well thats how i do it..not sure if that helps

Yes, exactly. What I try and do is take until I get a strike no matter what for the first three innings. This lets me know if my opponent is going to challenge me or try to get me to chase crap. Since so many people are too impatient to take any pitches, lots of people will just throw balls all day since they know they'll get strikeouts. If I get a guy like that, I'm happy to draw walks until he starts throwing me some strikes. Then, judging by the count, it's pretty easy to guess where the ball is going to be.

I totally agree with mpat when a player online sees that you will take some balls and get walks they tend to at least try to throw more strikes but as you said you have to be patient.
