Jacksonville University signs new coach
The Dolphins will start the 06-07 season with a new head coach. Vernand Paradise is the man. He joins the team after its terrible season last year finishing 1-26 (1-17). Hoping to change that he doesnt have much leadership with two seniors and a junior on the team. But the Dolphins are loaded with young talent in their freshmen (6), and sophomores (4). And he has plenty of room to build with 5 scholarships this season. He has brought with him two fine young assistants in Alberto Moore, and Scott Valencia. Alberto brings a great teacher to the practice floor. He also knows a thing or two about the offensive side of the ball. Scott is going to be Coach Paradise's right hand man when it comes to recruiting. He is the best scouter on the staff, and knows how to talk a prospect into coming to the college he is at. That brings us to head coach Vernand Paradise. It's suprising to see him give Jacksonville a try, because his coaching style completely clashes with the previous coaches. He is looking to bring a slower game to Jacksonville, FL. "Last year this was a team that ran up and down the court and didn't get after it defensively. That is going to change. We will run when we get the chance but if it ain't there, were not going to force it. On the defensive side of the ball, we're goin' to play in the other teams shorts. Thats what I want to see, and maybe if these guys do that then they can run after they force a turnover," said Coach Paradise earlier today.
Games will be played on MOP, 20 min. halfs.

Dolphins match last season's win total
This game was not what the score showed. If you watched any of this you would not believe the final score. Neither team could hit a shot in the 59-50 Jacksonville victory over the Tigers of Savannah State. "We played a little faster than I would have liked but in the end it turned out just how I wanted it to," commented Paradise, "When you shoot how we did you expect to loose. Fortunatley we out hustled them and played some good defense when it mattered most." Entering the final minute it was Jacksonville 54, Savannah State 50. Apparently they didn't think they needed to foul because they had an entire minute to score 4 points. The Dolphins ran the clock down to under :45, and the shot clock was counting down. Just looking to hit the rim and add another to the 11 offensive rebounds, Brennon Joseph tossed up a three with :01 left on the shot clock. It fell and JU had a seven point lead. Dawan Walcott turned it over on a terrible pass, that was taken down and jammed by Theron Owen with just over a shot clock remaining. Savannah State would go on to miss there next shot, and Jacksonville would walk out of Tiger Arena with the nine point win.
Key Players:
JU: Brennon Joseph - 15 pts (7/15, 1/1 3PT), 11 rebs
SSU: PG Dawan Walcott - 17 pts (7/8, 2/2 3PT, 1/1 FT), 7 asts, 8 TO
Jacksonville U. 1-0 (0-0)

Defending Champs to strong for Dolphins
From the opening tip, you just knew this outcome was going to happen. Jacksonville successfully slowed down the tempo of the game, but Florida's post players were just to dominant in the 91-54 game. How does a team score 91 in a slow paced game? They score just about every trip down the floor, and force a generaly good ballhandling team to turn the ball over. Thus leading to a 60% shooting percentage, 18 second chance points and 10 fast break points. "Florida is just a better team. There's not much you can say when the other team plays like this.
Key Players:
JU: Theron Owen - 16 pts (8/17, 0/1 3PT, 0/2 FT), 6 stls
UF: PF Reece Steele - 17 pts (7/9, 3/4 FT), 8 rebs, 5 blks
Jacksonville U. 1-1 (0-0)

Jacksonville rebounds versus South Carolina State
After a devestating loss to the Gators just over a week ago, the Dolphins get a chance to bounce back in their home opener. The Bulldogs just couldn't get it right offensivly turning it over way to many times. They were out hustled by Jacksonville and it really showed with the 24-10 margin in hustle points. Jacksonville dominated the whole way leading to a 60-44 victory in their home opener.
Key Players:
SCST: SG Dusty Rice - 10 pts (5/13, 0/4 3), 11 rebs
JU: Brennon Joseph - 18 pts (9/16), 7 rebs
Jacksonville U. 2-1 (0-0)

Golden Knights play golden
UCF won a close one, 71-65. It was a little to high scoring for the Dolphins, but Coach Paradise was ok with it because they were getting easy shots close to the basket. But they just couldn't get back on defense giving up 20 fast break points. Jacksonville is beginning to find out what it takes for them to win. "We need Theron, Dusty, and Brennon to hit 15. If they don't all reach that, we lose." Coach Paradise knows what he's talking about. Those three scored 15 a piece against Savannah State, and against the Bulldogs, Owen and Reece put up fifteen to go along with Joseph's 18. Tonight it was almost there with the three having 12, 16, and 19 respectively.
Key Players:
JU: Dusty Reece - 16 pts (8/12), 9 rebs
UCF: SG Jerrah Collins - 16 pts (7/17, 2/8 3. 0/1 FT), 3 (rebs, asts, stls)
Jacksonville U. 2-2 (0-0)

Bison put up fight, but not strong enough
Lipscomb held the lead going into the 2nd half 31-29, but struggled mightily in the next half. Hitting only 7-36 shots in the second half. Jacksonville went on to win with their strong defense 67-45. Theron Owen also struggled shooting 6/19 on his way to 16 points. He also was in foul trouble most of the way allowing him to only play 18 minutes. Lettenberger picked up the slack for him, even though he did not score, he played 16 solid minutes without a turnover. Dusty Reece played well with 20 and 5.
Key Players:
JU: Brennon Joseph - 19 pts (7/14, 5/5 FT), 7 reb
LU: SG Monty Bright - 14 pts (5/17, 1/5 3, 3/6 Ft), 9 reb
Jacksonville U. 3-2 (1-0)

Ugly isn't the right word
"Horrendus, terrible, hideous, those are some pretty good adjectives for how we played tonight," said Coach Paradise about the 101-44 loss to Belmont. "That Vasilis Halcomb kid is good, I'm glad he's a senior. He gave us no oppurtunity for offense. He took away the pick and roll. He made us alter shots inside, and took Dusty out of the offense." Belmont stopped Jacksonville in its tracks. Owen, Joseph, and Reese who generally combine for anywhere from 45 to 55 points, combined for 24 on the night. Reece could get nothing going from the high post against the zone. Owen ran into a brick wall whenever he went inside on the pick and roll. Joseph was injured after scoing 8 points in the first 5 minutes of the game. When he returned he was a nonfactor.
The game started off well with the Dolphins jumping out to a 7-0 lead, off of a pair of buckets from Burke and a three point play from Owen. Joseph would have all of his points before the 15:35 mark when he sprained his knee (13 days, day to day). The Dolphins would then score four points the rest of the half, trailing 49-19. It would go downhill from there as Coach Byrd wouln't pull out his starters.
Key Players:
JU: Dusty Reese - 8 pts (4/12), 5 rebs
BEL: C Vasilis Halcomb - 10 pts (5/6), 12 rebs, 5 blks
Jacksonville U. 3-3 (1-1)

Chanticleers keep it close, but not close enough
Despite the fact that they played good defense, they just could not hold back Owem, Joseph, and Reese. They combined for 56 of the teams 59 points. The rest of the Dolphins shot 1 for 26 in the game. The only basket being an early 3 from Filip Patton. Owen and Reese both put up 20, and Joseph added 16 in the 59-56 win. The Dolphins played solid defense all night, and went into the half with a big lead. They would throw the lead away after coming out and not scoring until just under 11:00 left in the second half. But Jacksonville never trailed by more than two points the entire game.
Key Players:
CCU: SG Eddie Janusauskas - 26 points (10/24, 2/14 3, 4/4 FT)
JU: Dusty Reese - 20 pts (10/14), 12 rebs
Jacksonville U. 4-3 (1-1)

Recruiting News: Atlantic Sun
Mercer - Juan Gardner commited earlier this week to Mercer. The 2 star SF doesn't look to be much a force in the conference. All of his attributes being very low, and is a decent jumper. He doesn't seem to understand whats going on around him all the time.
Jacksonville - Borges and Summers both decided that Florida International suited them better and accept scholarships there.
Coach Paradise has 3 new recruits.
-SG Maurice Lee: **

All C's
-PG Jerrold Crisp: **

keep it up. I'm doin a legacy with jacksonville too. Very good team to use because they have loads of very young talent. Finished my first season with like 25 wins and a trip to the sweet 16 and I'm 9-1 in my second year
