View Full Version : Why this game will suck online

Because 2k sports go too far over the top in sports games. In NBA 2k7, it was easier to make a 3 pointer than it was a 10 foot jumper. In MLB 2k7, its easier to hit a HR than a single. Im betting in APF, it will be the norm to complete tecmo-bowl style bombs every play, or it'll be something like rushing will be too easy and you'll be able to rack up 250 yards a game on the ground. It'll be one of those 2 things.

Keep in mind, you cant change sliders online. This game will be a huge dissapointment, and I'd put my house on it. Madden better get its head out of its azz, or football games are dead.

Well being that 2k4 was the easy rushing game and 2k5 was the easy deep ball passing I don't think those are two issues we will need to be concerned with most.

Madden sucks online also so if both suck it really wouldn't matter...and just because those sucked does not mean APF will suck lets just wait and see

I think you are leaving out some analysis here and basing your statement on old facts.
One game came out and you could run all day.
Another version came out and you could get away with the passing thing.

Now if next version didn't improve... and that is the keyword here on its previous version then I would tend to agree.

However... being that 2ksports improve on previous versions with regard to gameplay and not just arcade game candy I say it should be pretty good.

I say this with confidence because 2ksports understands its game has to be tight with no license to draw in those that require playing bandwagon football.

So we should see an upgrade in defenses and offenses to allow a balanced attack.

One other thing to remember.
Online is filled with Ego and Fantasy football players.
They take winning way too seriously and automatically translate it to superior skill and knowledge of the game. NOT!!!!

There is still an AI involved and it can be manipulated and to a degree will be.
Hopefully 2ksports will put enough in place to minimize such tactics.

I'm curious to see what playing options have been added.

I agree that 2k Sports need to step it up for online play.NBA is painful on the eyes, and Baseball, while improved, still needs serious work.(visually looks great though)

This will be a huge factor in determining the level of AP28's success, so I hope they do a good job. They need to get these games running as good as shooters.

All sports games played online technically suck. You can sry a river, but when you find some good opponents, it's a whole different league. Fact is, regardless how much we cry about 2K's games online, EA's is in a whole new gutter when it comes to online. At least there's a slight balance in 2K's offerings. There's no balance in the engines of EA's. Too many people base their opinions on the online portion, but as long as you can fix the game and make it realistic offline, online is just a bonus....remember that!

Yea that is what killed 2k7 for me. I mean when you have T-Mac hit every three he throws up with atleast a guy in his face, not to mention never being subbed out, there is a big problem.

But I also agree that sports games in general online against the wrong people can be a disaster. Why don't they patch sports games online? Is it just not technically possible? I mean if it is reported that qb running is a problem, couldn't they make a patch to make the defensive A.I smarter when the Qb is running?

They don't even need to patch. They can simply change the default sliders to make it more realistic.

Yea whichever.. The point being that I wish the online sports games would be monitored so they can tone down things that are overpowering. I dont understand why this hasnt been done yet.

Online will suck because everyone will lose to me.. and they will hate it :)

many PC online games offer patches... more for balancing issues than fixes.
look at the many blizzard RTS games for example...
they make patches so the different races are as close to balanced as possible.

well, for console games, not sure about balance patches, especially for sports games, a few teams will always suck, and some will always be good...

but changing the default sliders to be used online as ppl play it more and offer comments sounds like a good idea.

You raise some good points...2k has dropped the ball every year on a key aspect of the game...in 2k3 wr's dropped balls, 2k4 running backs were unstoppable, 2k5 QB's were unrealistically fast...All those years, online cheating true server glitches almost drove us insane...In 2k5, some not so smart monkey decides to take the chatrooms out leaving online as dead as Saddam..All considered, 2k5 is still GWAD...F* Madden

Except Drew Bledsoe.

Each time it has been on the offense.
Maybe this time it will be the defense that becomes unrealistic.

With all the focus being better AI for DB's maybe the AI for them will be a little unrealistic.

But like you said. 2k5 is still better than Madden.

I doubt they will do it because despite it people play.
Ego's overflow with "I've got Skills! I've got Skills!" etc...

It will be interesting to see what is the issue with this version.
No game is perfect so there has to be something. It is just a matter of how much of an impact it will have.

Same as Software Engineering.
- Major flaw or high impact you patch it.
- Minor flaw or low impact and you take care of it with the next version release.

I don't care if madden fans post on this site... as long as they don't spam... however, your quote is baseless.,.. mainly b/c this will be a unlicensed game... you have no idea what parameters 2K will use to pattern the AI after... so this whole thread is moot...!!!!

If you get crappy opponents, which is the case alot of the time, then yea, the games will suck. However, I think this game will suck online because it will be hard to get games. Sadly, I play NCAA 07 from time to time, and alot of times it's hard for me to get a match because alot of people aren't playing. 2K8 will have way less people playing...so it will be annoying at times. I just hope they do a good job marketing the game and I hope they release it early so that it can persuade people to buy the game before Madden and learn their lesson.

Are you forgetting the fact that to be considered "SIM" you cant use a member of the D-Line? The Defensive line was unrealistic in 2k5, but we all decided on a fix, and it become almost a sim players secret handshake. I play someone who uses a D-Tackle, I know I am in for a crap-fest

I dont know man,the community maybe pretty big. Atleast the majority of 2k5 fans will get this game. And keep in mind that Live has grown since 2k5 also.

If it is like it is now I would be satisfied. As long as I can jump online and there is always someone in the lobby than it will be cool for me. Well unless it is the same person everytime, than that would be not cool.

Yeah this game will probably suck online there are always certain players who instead of playing a franchise or a couple exibithon games when the game comes out they look for glitches and exploits. It comes with the territory all you can hope for is the identification of these unsimlated players.

2k5 fun online.....yea right. You must be one of those DE cheesers or halftime glitchers, or keep audibling on D so I cant call a offensive play, or DT glitchers, or drop glitchers....do I need to go on...get the point. So many of you guys forget how crappy 2k5 was online that sometimes I just scratch my head. For the record I do hope they make an awesome game game but I wont hold my breath!

glitches didnt bother me to much. I had different ways to stop it. If i had to do it against them, i could if i needed too. For every glitch there is a counter.

Everything online will have ways to glitch or play unfair. Its just how it is. People purposley look for ways to cheat and expoit. 2k5 was amazingly fun whhen you played someone that played by the sim rules. It was just a damn blast. I am also having a blast on mlb2k7 right now. Even though i really suck at it. *****ing cant get the timing down right lol* Anyways, i am almost sure i wont be dissapointed.
