General Information
After being inspired by the many great legacies on the boards here, I have decided to create my own. The format, tone, and style of the legacy are inspired by the other legacies on the boards. I am playing on the XBOX 360, MOP, 14 Minute halves. I play all of the games sim style, which, as you will see, will lead to me getting crushed more than once. So, without further ado, I give you the legacy of Doug Erickson. I hope you enjoy it!

2K Sports Network Magazine: 2006 Post-Season Shakeups
New York, NY – May 3, 2006 – At the end of every season, we like to take the time to break down the post-season drama throughout the college basketball world. This week, we will take a look at five of the more interesting storylines from some of the small conference teams.
1) UC Riverside Highlanders – The Highlanders of the Big West Conference finished 5-23 (3-11) last season and there has been speculation that the school is looking to make a coaching change. AD Chuck Thompson has refused to comment on any possible changes. “Coach Spencer and I have been in discussions about how to best improve the team for next year”. When asked if that improvement would include Coach Spencer’s resignation, Thompson responded with the infamous “no comment”.
2) Northern Colorado Bears – Next season the Bears will be joining the Big Sky Conference after spending last year as an independent with a rough 5-24 record. The embattled Coach Boyle has grown increasing frustrated with the situation at Northern Colorado and Coach Boyle’s frustrations reportedly hit a boiling point last week when he met with Northern Colorado AD Jacob Williams. Our sources tell us that quite a nasty shouting match erupted between the two men and that Coach Boyle’s days as head coach of the Bears may be numbered.
3) Stony Brook Seawolves - The Seawolves finished last season with a 4-24 (2-14) record out of the America East Conference. This obviously has caused speculation that Coach Pikiell would be asked to resign. However, Coach Pikiell maintains that he plans on being with the team next season. AD Larry Ford only told the media that he was “reviewing the current status of the Men’s Basketball program very carefully”.
4) Central Arkansas Bears – The University of Central Arkansas is making their first foray into Division I Men’s Basketball next year when they join the Southland Conference and they are looking for the right coach to lead them. AD Paul Harris says that he will begin to interview candidates for the position in the coming weeks. Harris says he hopes to have the spot filled by the end of June.
5) Texas Southern Tigers - The Tigers of Texas Southern may feel that they need a new coach. They finished last season with an 8-22 (6-12) record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. This prompted the administration to clean house and fire the AD and the entire coaching staff. New AD Tom Marshall now has the task of hiring a new coach for the Tigers next year. In a recent interview, we asked Marshall what his hopes are for next year. “It won’t be an easy task” Marshall said “but I believe with the right coaching staff we could win a conference title”.

Season 1
(May 4, 2006)
Coach Doug Erickson sat in the early morning, eating breakfast and reading the new issue of the 2k Sports Network Magazine. He grinned at the cover story “Coach Bailey: ‘The Monarch of Morehead’”. “Its great seeing the little guy come out on top” Coach Erickson thought. It was the beginning of May and his season as an assistant coach at DII Adelphi University had been over for about a month now. The Panther’s coaching staff led the team to an East Coast Conference title and a birth in the DII NCAA Tournament, where they lost in their regional semifinal. Coach Erickson, 27, spent the last 7 years with the Panthers and the last 4 years as their top assistant coach.
Something caught Coach Erickson’s eye in the magazine: “2006 Post-season Shakeups”. He quickly read over the article and wondered “Will I ever get to be like Coach Bailey? I just need a chance to prove myself. I know I can be great”. There was no way that Coach Erickson could have known that he would soon get the opportunity to establish himself.

The Offer
(May 6, 2006)
“Don’t forget to take out the garbage Doug!” yelled Karen Erickson at her husband. “I’ll do it during the next commercial!” hollered Coach Erickson. There was no way he was taking out the garbage while the 2k Sports Network was doing an interview with Coach Dillard about his recent move to Portland. RING!*RING!*RING! “Doug, phone call!” shouted Karen. “Who is it?” shouted back Coach Erickson. “Some…Paul Harris” responded his wife. Coach Erickson shrieked “Give me that phone!” as he sprang up from his couch and lunged to the phone held by Mrs. Erickson. He knew that this was the phone call he had been waiting for.

2k Sports Network Alert: UCA Names Doug Erickson their New Head Coach
Conway, AR – June 21, 2006 – The University of Central Arkansas Bears of the Southland Conference named Doug Erickson there new head coach in a press conference earlier today. “Our list was more than a few candidates long, but Coach Erickson’s charisma was just too much to resist” said AD Paul Harris. “I am ecstatic to be the head coach here at UCA. I am going to do my best to make the first season of DI basketball in Conway a memorable one” said Coach Erickson. When asked about his lack of experience Coach Erickson said “I hope to not only teach the players, but to learn from them as well. Everyone here at UCA is still learning what it takes to be a great DI program and I am hoping to learn with them”.
Hopefully Coach Erickson and the Bears will learn quickly. Midnight Madness for UCA is on 10/23 and it will be interesting to see how the players respond to the new coach.

Coach’s Press Conference
Conway, AR – July 10, 2006 – At a press conference earlier today, Coach Erickson introduced his newly hired assistant coaches, Cory Wallace and Marton Udezue. “Coach Wallace is a veteran high school coach and I am excited about having his discipline and teaching skills here in Conway. Coach Udezue is a former DII assistant much like my self. His specialty is the defensive side of the ball. I can’t wait to work with both of these fine coaches this year as we try to build a program here at UCA” said Coach Erickson about his new coaches. Indeed, Coach Erickson will need all the help that he can get to turn the Bears into a winner.

UCA Midnight Madness
Conway, AR – October 23, 2006- The atmosphere in Conway was electric as the first season of Men’s DI basketball began tonight at the annual Midnight Madness event. Junior guard Sam McFarlin put on a show, raining the three ball from all over the arc, ending with 22 points. Freshman big man Teco Bills picked up an impressive double-double (11 points, 10 boards) for the young Bears squad. “We just wanted the players to come out tonight and give the student body a great show and I think that is exactly what they did” said Coach Erickson when asked about the event. With Midnight Madness over, the Bears are looking forward to their first game against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

Bonnies Roll Over Bears in Opening Game Blowout
UCA – 41 @ St. Bonaventure – 86
November 14, 2006 – The St. Bonaventure Bonnies absolutely dismantled the Bears of Central Arkansas in the opening game for both teams. UCA shot an abysmal 27% from the field versus the 60% of St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies out rebounded the Bears by an astonishing 15 to 46. St. Bonaventure had four players in double figures, led by their point guard Cory Hasell with 17 points. Notable scorers from the Bears were guards Sam McFarlin with 15 points and Jeromy Ingram with 14 points. “We didn’t hit shots. We didn’t rebound. We didn’t play defense. We lost” said a disheartened Coach Erickson. Unfortunately, things may only be getting worse for the Bears in their next game, when they travel to UConn to play the #24 ranked Huskies. The Bears record stands at 0-1 (0-0)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Crushed by #24 UConn
UCA – 67 @ #24 UConn – 99
November 17, 2006 – There was no upset tonight in Connecticut as the Huskies easily took care of business against the UCA Bears. Clement Holbrook led the Huskies in scoring with 20 points, but he was not the topic of discussion after the game. UCA Junior guard Sam McFarlin went crazy tonight, scoring 32 points including 8 threes. “You never feel good about a loss” said Doug Erickson, head coach of Central Arkansas, “but Sam (McFarlin) played an amazing game. If we strengthen our defense and rebounding, maybe we will actually get a few wins”. Aside from McFarlin, senior Jasper Berrelleca and freshman Duane Rowe both scored 10 points and grabbed 2 and 4 steals respectively. The Bears have their home opener tomorrow night against Ole Miss. With the loss the Bears record falls to 0-2 (0-0).

Ole Miss Runs Away With Second Half, Cruises Past UCA
UCA - 72 vs. Ole Miss – 98
November 18, 2006 – Hopes were high at the end of the first half in Conway, with the Bears only 5 points behind heavily favored Ole Miss. Those hopes were dashed however when point guard Harold West (25 points) led a 14-0 Ole Miss run to start the second half. “We turned the ball over and they got out on the break and when we finally stopped turning the ball over, we were already too far behind to mount any kind of comeback” said Coach Erickson after the game. Despite the loss, the Bears could find some solace in the play of Junior Sam McFarlin and Freshman Duane Rowe. Of his two young guards, Coach Erickson said “Sam and Duane played great tonight. They both have a phenomenal stoke from downtown and Duane really has a knack for finding the open man”. McFarlin scored 35 points including 11 threes. He also grabbed 4 steals. Duane Rowe tallied 13 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
The Bears are away at Fairfield tomorrow where they will look to grab their first win of the season. The Bears record falls to 0-3 (0-0) with tonight’s loss.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Lose in Heartbreaker
UCA – 61 @ Fairfield – 66
November 19, 2006 – “We were in the game all the way to the end. You can’t really ask anything more of your team in a game like this. I’m proud of the way my guys played” said an oddly optimistic Coach Erickson. The Bears were indeed in the game all the way till the end. The deciding play of the game was with the Bears down by two. Junior Guard Sam McFarlin (18 points, 6 steals) missed a wide open three with 45 seconds left. Fairfield grabbed the rebound, calmly ran their offence, and got it to guard Terron Kuhle who drained a three with 10 seconds left on the clock. The biggest positive for the Bears has to have been the play of guard Jeromy Ingram, who scored 19 points in the losing effort. “It’s good to see Jeromy get back his rhythm. We are going to need him to keep this up if we want to win some games” said Coach Erickson.
The Bears return to Conway tonight, where they will await their next opponents, the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State. This is the fourth loss in a row for the Bears. Their record stands at 0-4 (0-0).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coach’s Press Conference
Conway, AR - November 21, 2006 – Coach Erickson held a press conference today to address the rough start to his Division I coaching career. “Everyone on the team wants to win. The guys are working hard out there but things just haven’t worked out well for us so far. We are building on every loss”. When asked about the effect of being out rebounded 68 to 159 this season, Coach Erickson responded “If we don’t start to rebound, we won’t ever win. Period. Its time for our big men to step up”. We will see if his big men do step up against Mississippi Valley State tomorrow night.

Bears Grab Their First Win
UCA - 67 vs. MVS – 58
November 22, 2006 – “Well it’s about time” said an excited Coach Erickson, who grabbed his first win as a Division I head coach. “I called on my big men to step up, and Teco (Bills) stepped up”. Freshman Center Teco Bills tallied 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Sharpshooter Sam McFarlin scored 22 points and senior Jasper Berrelleca netted 13 points. “I hope that this win propels us to many more. Conference play is starting up soon, and we need to go into it playing well”. The win brings the Bears record this season to 1-4 (0-0).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2k Sports Network Recruiting Update
December 1, 2006 – The midseason signing period is over and while there were no recruits who signed with UCA during the period, Coach Erickson did not lose any of his top targets. Mike Roberts of 2kpreps.com has a list of the recruits being pursued by the University of Arkansas.
1) Toby O’Neil 6’7” 234 lbs. PF: Toby is a JuCo Freshman out of Mobile AL, who would fit perfectly with the Bears. He would add offense, size, and rebounding, all of which are sorely needed by the Bears. He is a 3* recruit.
2) Ya Ya Cassler 6’6” 194 lbs. SF: Ya Ya is a High School senior out of Dallas TX. He is a solid shooter from all over the floor and he is no slouch on the boards. Ya Ya would be brought in to replace senior Jasper Berrelleca. He is a 3* recruit.
3) Maris Shavies 6’11” 225 lbs. C: Maris is a High School senior from Chicago, IL. He would bring much needed rebounding and shot blocking as well as the occasional bucket to the Bears. If he does sign with UCA, he will no doubt start immediately. He is a 3* recruit.
4) Raymond Minter 6’10” 263 lbs. C: Raymond is a High School senior from Jamaica. He is one of three world recruits being targeted by Coach Erickson. UCA is the only school on his list. Raymond is a 3* recruit.
5) Cliff Stiggers 6’7” 228 lbs. PF: Cliff is Coach Erickson’s plan B if Toby O’Neil decides to sign elsewhere. UCA is the only school on Cliff’s list. He is a High School senior from Nigeria. Cliff is a 3* recruit.
6) Will Acker 7’1” 244 lbs. C: Will is a monster in the paint. He is a High School senior out of Lincoln, NE. The only reason he isn’t higher on Coach Erickson’s list is because Will is being recruited heavily by the University of Nebraska. Will is a 3* recruit.
7) Tasmin Gattling 6’2” 193 lbs. SG: Tasmin is an undersized shooting guard who would most likely be converted to a point guard if he signs with the Bears. He is a High School senior from Brazil and UCA is the only school on his list. It is unlikely that he would be offered a scholarship because the Bears are looking to sure up their forwards and centers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Win Back-to-Back
UCA – 74 @ Bowling Green – 73
December 9, 2006 – The Bears stuck to their winning ways tonight winning a nail-biter against a heavily favored Bowling Green squad. The play of the game for the Bears was made by forward Bronski Ogunoye. With 1:21 left in the game and the Bears up by 1, Ogunoye drove strong to the basket, hit a circus shot, and got fouled. The three point play put the Bears up for good. “Bronski’s drive was something special. That was one heck of a shot” said Coach Erickson. Ogunoye finished the game with 14 points. Other notables for UCA were Sam McFarlin with 21 points and Duane Rowe with 14 points. The win improves the Bears record to 2-4 (0-0).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Nearly Pull off Upset in a Shootout
UCA – 95 @ UMKC – 97
December 16, 2006 – “Sam (McFarlin) and Duane (Rowe) put on a show tonight. Even though we lost, this is a game that I will never forget”. Those were the words of Coach Doug Erickson after an intense shootout between UCA and UMKC. Sam McFarlin was the star tonight, dropping 46 points off of 13 threes. His teammate freshman guard Duane Rowe also impressed with a whopping 33 points off of 7 threes. McFarlin showed everyone what kind of night he had when he drained a bomb from half court at the end of the game with the Bears down by 5. The loss breaks the Bears’ winning streak and puts their record at 2-5 (0-0). The Bears next game is away against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Beat Delta Devils Again
UCA - 71 @ MVS – 58
December 20, 2006 – The Bears took care of business again, this time defeating the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on their own floor. “This was a nice, solid win. We took out our frustrations on MVS and boy did it ever feel good” said a satisfied Coach Erickson after the game. Everyone was involved for the Bears tonight, Jeromy Ingram and Duane Rowe both scored 15 points. Jasper Berrelleca had a solid line ending with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Sam McFarlin had a quiet night with 11 points and Jamon Sanchez scored 4 points and ripped 9 boards. UCA heads to Marist to play in the Marist Classic, where they will face the Bison of Bucknell in the first round. The win puts the Bears’ record at 3-5 (0-0).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bucknell Bison Trample The Bears
UCA 62 @ Bucknell – 104
December 29, 2006 – The Bucknell Bison were bigger, stronger, and more athletic than the Bears…and it showed. The Bears’ star Sam McFarlin was held to 20 points after coming off a 46 point game against UMKC. “When you get dominated like that on both sides of the ball, there really isn’t too much you can do” said Coach Erickson “You got to tip your hat to them, they played a phenomenal game and we didn’t”. Bucknell will move on to the finals of the Marist Classic where they will play Marist, who defeated Northern Illinois 66 – 60. The loss drops the Bears’ record to 3-6 (0-0).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2k Sports Network Game Update
December 30, 2006 – The Marist Red Foxes won the tournament held on their home floor today by beating the Bucknell Bison 73 – 65. The tournament invitees this year other than the two finalists were NIU and UCA.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Offense Disappears, Bears Get Crushed In Second-Half
UCA – 58 @ UTA – 71
January 4, 2007 – The University of Central Arkansas started 2007 and Southland Conference play with a loss at the University of Texas at Arlington. UTA was up by 5 at the half and both teams looked evenly matched. The second half, however, opened up with a 10-2 UTA run and UCA was never able to make up the difference. “We came out of the half cold as ice. It’s tough to make up points when you aren’t hitting the glass and your shots aren’t falling”. Sam McFarlin struggled on offense. His line was 19 points, 3 boards, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Freshman Duane Rowe has disappeared in the last two games. He only scored 11 points tonight. With the loss, the Bears’ record falls further to 3-7 (0-1).

Bears Start Slow, Fall To Texas State
UCA - 73 @ Texas State – 86
January 6, 2007 – “We came out of the gate slow and we don’t have the firepower to make up for a lot of early mistakes” said Coach Erickson, following the Bears’ loss to Texas State. The Bears got off to a rough start and ended up trailing 23 – 45 at the half. The Bears ended up going on a tear in the second half, but it was just too much ground to make up. The comeback was led by the outside shooting of Duane Rowe (22 points, 2 assists), Sam McFarlin (21 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals) and Jeromy Ingram (20 points, 4 assists, 3 steals). The Bears will return to Conway to face the UTSA. The loss puts the Bears’ record at 3-8 (0-2).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Grabs Solid Win At Home
UCA – 63 vs. UTSA - 59
January 11, 2007 – The Bears’ got their first ever Southland Conference victory tonight with their win over UTSA. “We hit the glass and played great defense. When you do that, you usually win the game” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. The rebounding was led by senior center Jamon Sanchez who ripped 15 rebounds. Sam McFarlin led all scorers with 25 points and Jeromy Ingram finished with a solid 10 points and 3 assists. The Bears next game is at home against Southland Conference power house Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. With the win tonight the Bears’ record is 4-8 (1-2).

Islanders Too Big For Bears
UCA - 61 vs. TXAM-CC - 80
January 13, 2007 – “The Islanders are the cream of the crop of our conference and they showed us why tonight” said Coach Erickson following his team’s 61 – 80 loss. The Islanders dominated the early game intimidating the Bears’ players with their size. “It felt like every time we went to the basket, it was swatted away. It’s tough to get any kind of offense going when you get that many shots blocked” said Coach Erickson. Sam McFarlin’s outside game was the only thing going for the Bears. He finished with 25 points, 3 steals, and 2 rebounds. Despite the loss, Coach Erickson was optimistic. “Even though we lost, I’m proud that my guys kept it under 20. This is the kind of game where we would have gotten blown out by 30 or 40 points earlier in the year and the fact that we kept the score as close as we did shows me that we are improving”. The Bears’ record is now 4-9 (1-3). Their next game is away at Lamar.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another Slow Start, Another Loss for UCA
UCA – 60 @ Lamar – 79
January 18, 2007 – Lamar University jumped out to a 15 – 4 lead early and just never looked back. “I really feel like this was a game that we should have won. We need to stop getting off to such slow starts. We end up digging a hole that is so deep that we can’t climb out of it” said a disappointed Coach Erickson. A bright spot for the Bears was the play of Jamon Sanchez, who had his best game of the season finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Sam McFarlin just couldn’t get it going tonight and he ended with only 11 points. The next game for UCA is away at McNeese State. The second straight loss for the Bears puts their record at 4–10 (1-4).

Yeah, its been a rough season. I doubt we will see any kind of post season play. You have to remember that UCA has a DII roster and it will take at least one recruiting class before we are able to win consistantly.

McNeese State Press Gets To The Bears
UCA – 51 @ McNeese State – 78
January 20, 2007 – The UCA Bears blew a 28 – 23 first half lead and senior guard Jeromy Ingram was taking the heat for the second half collapse. Ingram (16 points, 2 assists, 5 steals) committed 9 turnovers, all of which lead to easy fast break points for McNeese State. “You can’t fault one person for the loss tonight. We all played poorly in the second half. You win as a team and you lose as a team” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. The blown lead adds another loss to the slumping Bears’ record, which now stands at 4-11 (1-5). The Bears’ next game is at home against Southeast Louisiana.

Bears Rebound At Home
UCA – 71 vs. SE Louisiana – 70
January 25, 2007 – The Bears snapped their three game losing streak tonight with a win at home against Southeast Louisiana. Sam McFarlin (16 points, 2 assists, 3 steals) was the hero for the Bears. He drained a three with time winding down and the Bears down by two. “That was some shot” said Coach Erickson. Junior Bronski Ogunoye was the high scorer for the Bears tonight with 19 points. Seniors Jeromy Ingram (15 points, 2 steals) and Jamon Sanchez (6 points, 11 rebounds) both had solid performances. The win makes the Bears’ record this year 5-11 (2-5). Their next game is home against Nicholls State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another Win For UCA
UCA – 65 vs. Nicholls State – 52
January 27, 2007 – The Bears grabbed their second win in a row tonight behind the efforts of Sam McFarlin who ended with 24 points and 8 steals. “Anytime you win back-to-back games, you feel pretty good” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears controlled the game the whole way, controlling the boars and forcing turnovers. Other Bears notables tonight were Jamon Sanchez with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Jeromy Ingram with 8 points and 9 assists. With the win, the Bears’ record improves to 6-11 (3-5) on the season. UCA’s next game is away at Northwestern State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blount’s Effort Not Enough To Grab Upset
UCA – 66 @ Northwestern State – 75
February 3, 2007 – Northwestern State showed the Bears why they are at the top of the Southland Conference. The Bears opened up an early lead, but Northwestern State had closed the gap by the half and proceeded to calmly put the game away in the second half. The story for the Bears tonight was the play of junior forward Demetrice Blount who ended with 30 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. “Demetrice had a phenomenal game and it’s a shame that it didn’t translate into a win” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. Sam McFarlin also played well and ended with 17 points and 4 steals. The loss drops the Bears’ record to 6-12 (3-6). Their next game is home against Stephen F. Austin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Offense No Where To Be Found In Loss
UCA - 60 vs. Stephen F. Austin – 78
February 7, 2007 – “Our shots just weren’t falling in the second half. It’s really that simple” said Coach Erickson after the loss. 12 of Sam McFarlin’s 18 points (2 assists, 3 steals) came in the first half as well as 8 of Demetrice Blount’s 10 points (9 rebounds, 2 steals). The offensive drought in the second half was also a result of turnovers. The loss puts the Bears’ record at 6-13 (3-7). The Bears play their next game away at Sam Houston State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Can’t Come Through In The Clutch
UCA – 50 @ Sam Houston State – 54
February 10, 2007 – The Bears were down by 2 with 33 seconds to go in the game. Sam McFarlin (9 points) jacked up a wide open three from the corner that rimmed out. Jamon Sanchez (6 points, 6 rebounds) grabbed the rebound and passed it to a wide open Jeromy Ingram, who jacked up another three that missed off the back of the rim. Sanchez got the rebound, blew the put back, and Sam Houston State got the rebound, sunk their free throws, and won the game. “It’s a tough way to lose” said a frustrated Coach Erickson after the game. The heartbreaker drops the Bears’ record to 6-14 (3-8). The Bears return to Conway for their next game against the Cardinals of Lamar University.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Upset Lamar By One
UCA – 56 vs. Lamar – 55
February 15, 2007 – “I can’t take too many more of these close games” joked Coach Erickson after the big win tonight over Lamar. Things weren’t looking good at all for the Bears with time winding down, trailing the Cardinals by 5, when Junior Demetrice Blount took over. Blount scored the final 6 points of the game, his last bucket a game winning hook shot from the left block, and finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds. The three other Bears in double figures tonight were Sam McFarlin (14 points, 6 steals), Jasper Berrelleca (11 points, 2 rebounds), and Jeromy Ingram (10 points, 2 assists). The upset improves the Bears’ record to 7-14 (4-8). The Bears are on the road to face McNeese State in their next game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
McNeese State Press Is Too Much For Bears
UCA - 58 @ McNeese State – 75
February 17, 2007 – The press of McNeese State got to the Bears for the second time this season tonight. “I thought we had it figured out, but they just wore us down” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears didn’t go down without a fight though. Sam McFarlin (13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals) and Demetrice Blount (14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals) both did there best to get the Bears back in the game but their efforts just were not enough to compensate for the massive number of points off of turnovers. The Bears fall to 7-15 (4-9) with the loss. The next game for UCA is on the road against Southeastern Louisiana.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another Tough Loss For UCA
UCA – 72 @ SE Louisiana - 76
February 22, 2007 – Another 30 plus point effort was wasted by the Bears tonight in their 4 point loss to Southeast Louisiana. This time it was Sam McFarlin’s 31 point and 4 steal gem went to waste. “It really kills me when we aren’t able to capitalize when someone has an outstanding performance” said Coach Erickson after the game. Other notables were Jeromy Ingram with 12 points and 4 steals and Demetrice Blount with 11 points and 4 rebounds. The Bears lead the game at the half, only to squander their lead with two minutes left in the game. Once again, no one stepped up for the Bears in crunch time and the result was a loss. The Bears’ record is now 7-16 (4-10). The Bears next game is at Nicholls State, their last road game of the season.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Keeps Their Southland Tournament Hopes Alive
UCA – 73 @ Nicholls State – 60
February 24, 2007 – “Jasper (Berrelleca) played like a man possessed tonight” said Coach Erickson of his senior guard after the game. Berrelleca lead all scores tonight with 18 points and also picking up 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. The game was close until Sam McFarlin got his game going. 14 of McFarlin’s 17 points came at the end of the second half. The other Bears in double figures were Jeromy Ingram with 12 points, 2 assists, and 5 steals, and Demetrice Blount with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. The Bears are now 8-16 (5-10). They will need a win in their last game, which is senior night in Conway, against Northwestern State to keep their Southland Tournament hopes alive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Loss Ends Their Season
UCA – 64 vs. Northwestern State – 77
March 3, 2007 – “Jamon (Sanchez), Jeromy (Ingram), and Jasper (Berrelleca) are all fine young men. I appreciate what they have done for the program and I don’t know what we are going to do without them next season” said a somber Coach Erickson after a Senior Night loss to Northwestern State. The Bears fought hard to keep their season alive. Sanchez came one rebound short of a double-double in his last game, finishing with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 block. Ingram also played a fine game, finishing his college career with a 14 point, 3 rebound, and 2 steal performance. Juniors Sam McFarlin (15 points, 6 steals, and 2 rebounds) and Demetrice Blount (12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals) did all they could to get a win for their senior teammates. The Bears season ends with their record at 8-17 (5-11). Coach Erickson said that his team will be “watching the Southland Conference tournament and the NCAA tournament at my house so they can see what it takes to get to that level”.

2k Sports Network Recruiting Alert
New York, NY – The recruiting period has begun and coaches are adjusting their priority lists every hour. Mike Roberts of 2kpreps.com has an updated list of the players being recruited by the University of Central Arkansas’ Coach Doug Erickson.
1) Raymond Minter 6’10” 263 lbs. C: Coach Erickson needs someone to replace Jamon Sanchez at center, and he thinks that Raymond Minter would work out very nicely. With Toby O’Neil and Ya Ya Cassler signing with other schools, the Jamaican native has moved into the top priority slot. Raymond is a 3* recruit.
2) Cliff Stiggers 6’7” 228 lbs. PF: The Nigerian has moved up in Coach Erickson’s list due to the loss of Toby O’Neil. His interest in UCA may not be high enough to get him to sign. Cliff is a 3* recruit.
3) Will Acker 7’1” 244 lbs. C: The center out of Lincoln, NE has dropped in the eyes of many scouts, but he still has Coach Erickson believing in him. He has been down graded to a 2* recruit due to his poor play in his senior season. It is rumored that Coach Erickson has already offered Will a scholarship.
4) Tasmin Gattling 6’2” 193 lbs. SG: Tasmin would come in to replace outgoing guard Jeromy Ingram in the Bears starting line up. The Brazilian has become more popular recently due to his great senior season, where he showcased his excellent shooting ability. This 3* recruit would be a huge pick up for the Bears.
5) Tavon Flowers 6’5” 194 lbs. SF: The Olathe, KS native was a late addition to Coach Erickson’s list. The JuCo sophomore would give the Bears a nice sixth man off the bench with last years sixth man Bronski Ogunoye moving into the starting line up. The 2* recruit would fit right in with the Bears.

Coach’s Press Conference
Conway, AR – May 1, 2007 – At a press conference earlier today, Coach Doug Erickson introduced the new members of the UCA men’s basketball program. “Good Afternoon. I would like to introduce to you three fine young men who will be playing for me next season. You all must notice the 7’1” giant behind me, so I will begin with him. This is Will Acker. Will is from Lincoln, Nebraska and he will be playing center for us this season. Next I want to introduce Tavon Flowers. Tavon hails from Olathe, Kansas and he will be playing some forward this year. Last but not least, I want to introduce to you Tasmin Gattling. Tasmin comes to us all the way from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He will be sharing the point guard duties with Duane Rowe this year. I believe that these three players will become a vital part of the University of Central Arkansas for years to come”.

Yeah, It took me a while to figure out the brackets and stats. To put the codes in you highlight whatever you want to make code and press the # button on the reply bar. Even with the codes, it still takes a while to get the brackets and stats right.

LiAu41,how many minutes are you simming on.Plus, why don't you play some of the games to give your team a better chance of winning.that way your record will be better giving you a chance to pick up some 4 and 5 star players.i play all my rank oppenents and sim unrank team games.Plus,i play all ranked teams for my non-conference games.I did that even when i was at WIU.I figuare if i am going to lose let it be to someone in the top 25 and if i won then i had a better shot of making the NCAA.I am currently at wisconsin with a great team all brought in by my recruiting skills.

it's a rebuilding process and sounds like you're going about it the right way. Your team will improve with time and win more games.
Too bad you lost Ya Ya "sisterhood" Cassler. I think there would have been a few jokes around that name if she came there. The 7 foot Acker should give you a good presence in the middle (I'd be curious how he finally grades out since he was a 3 star player that dropped a notch. He could be a surprise either way). And the Brazillian shooter could light it up for you. Tasmin Gattling "GUN" - again, I think your announcers will have some fun with him.
Start working early on a some 3* (and maybe a local 4 star who has some interest) players now, and maybe you'll be in line to sign some early next year.
(as for copying over stats, etc. I've had some luck typing them into Excel first, then copying to paste here, then wrapping into the code. on a few it messes up the spacing, but it's readable for the most part. I've just found it easier than trying to type it on here.)

Season 2
(September 22, 2007 – The office of UCA AD Paul Harris)
“Well, this may get ugly” thought Coach Erickson as he sat outside Paul Harris’ office, waiting for their meeting. Just then, the door to AD Harris’ office opened “Come on in Doug” said AD Harris. Coach Erickson stepped inside his boss’ office. “Take a seat and we will get right down to it” said AD Harris as he closed the door behind him. “I’m going to be blunt with you Doug. Your record last season was abysmal. Don’t you agree?”. “Of course I do” said Coach Erickson, “but I’m not going to let that happen again this year”. AD Harris looked at Coach Erickson square in the eyes and said “Neither am I. I like you a lot Doug, but if the team doesn’t improve, we may have to look elsewhere. The administration doesn’t like the idea of us being the laughing stock of the Conference”. “Trust me” said Coach Erickson “it won’t come to that”. “I hope not” said AD Harris. “I have a meeting with my staff in ten minutes. Is there anything else you need to say?” said Coach Erickson. AD Harris thought for a second and then smiled and said “Just one thing. Win”.
(Ten Minutes Later, Coach Erickson’s office)
“Cary. Marlon. How are you fellas?” asked Coach Erickson. He had given his assistants the last week off to take care of whatever they needed to before the prep for the season started. “I’m great Doug!” said Cary Wallace. “Ready to get back to work!” exclaimed Marlon Udezue. Coach Erickson smiled “Good. Cause if we don’t put some wins together this year, we will all be looking for new jobs, so its time to get down to business. We have weigh ins in the locker room in an hour and then we will hold our try outs at 3 o’clock. We will meet afterwards and get our official roster posted tomorrow. Sound good?”. Both assistant coaches nodded. “Great. That’s it then guys. Lets have a great year!”. And with that, Coach Erickson’s second season at the University of Central Arkansas began.

UCA Freshmen Rock Midnight Madness
Conway, AR - October 29, 2007 – Last year was not a good year for the University of Central Arkansas. They were dominated by teams that were bigger, stronger, and faster than them. This year’s freshmen are looking to change that. Coach Erickson used his three scholarships last year to grab Will Acker, Tasmin Gattling, and Tavon Flowers (JUCO transfer). “What can I say? Midnight Madness is all about putting on a show and we sure did that tonight” said Coach Erickson. Gattling looked very impressive, raining threes from all over the floor. Flowers showed that he will be a serviceable sixth-man for the Bears this year. Will Acker, however, showed why he was downgraded. Acker was dominated inside by sophomore Teco Bills. When asked about who would start at center, Coach Erickson smiled and said “Come to the opener on November 18 against South Dakota State”. We certainly will.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bears Take Their Opener
UCA – 67 vs. South Dakota State – 49
November 12, 2007 – “It’s always good to get off to a good start” said Coach Erickson after the win against South Dakota State. “Our new guys really stepped up tonight. Tasmin (Gattling) is a very special player”. The Brazilian freshman started at point guard for the Bears’ tonight and finished with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Fellow freshman, Will Acker, started the game at center and ended with a solid 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block. “Will looked good, but he still needs some polish. It’s going to take a while, but he will get there” said Coach Erickson after the game. Last year’s Southland Conference scoring champion Sam McFarlin finished the game with 10 points and 3 steals. The Bears record is now at 1-0 (0-0). Their next game is on the road against Oregon State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Can’t Upset Oregon State
UCA – 58 @ Oregon State – 80
November 23, 2007 – “This game was a wake up call for us” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. The Beavers of Oregon State were just too much for UCA. Tasmin Gattling game in with another solid game finishing with 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 steals. Senior Demetrice Blount had his best game so far picking up 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. In the battle for starting center, sophomore Teco Bills finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds while freshman Will Acker scored only 4 points and grabbed only 3 rebounds. “If you want to look at it positively” said Coach Erickson “we would have lost by 40 or 50 last year”. While the Bears’ may be improving, their record drops them to 1-1 (0-0) this year. UCA plays their next game away at Santa Clara.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Miss Last Second Shot, Lose Nailbiter
UCA – 77 @ Santa Clara – 79
November 25, 2007 – “Ugh!” was the first thing that came out of Coach Erickson’s mouth tonight after a rough loss to Santa Clara. UCA had the ball with 20 seconds left, down by 1. Tasmin Gattling dished off to an open Sam McFarlin, who shot up a trey that rimmed out as time expired. “I went for the win. If Sam sinks that shot, we are celebrating an upset” said Coach Erickson. Gattling and McFarlin both played brilliantly. Gattling finished with 26 points, 2 boards, 4 assists, and 1 steal while McFarlin finished with 24 points, 1 assist, and 2 steals. Will Acker got into early foul trouble, but still finished with 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 block. The Bears’ record is now 1-2 (0-0) and they will be on the road to play UC Irvine in their next game.

looking at your schedule, I might predict you could get 3 more wins in non-conf games. To break even with the teams ahead would be a good accomplishment (hopefully you get on a roll and do just that). Utah and K-State might prove too big and powerful. But those games will help you prepare for your conference schedule and I'll go on record to predict a better league record for you this year. I think with Gattling Gunning it from outside, it will open some things for you underneath.

Bears Upset UC Irvine
UCA – 77 @ UC Irvine – 66
November 28, 2007 – The Bears pulled off an impressive 11 point upset against UC Irvine tonight. UCA had four players in double figures tonight: Demetrice Blount (16 points, 3 rebounds), Tasmin Gattling (14 points, 4 steals, 2 assists), Will Acker (13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks), and Sam McFarlin (11 points, 2 rebounds). “The win tonight was a true team effort. I couldn’t be more proud of my kids right now” beamed Coach Erickson after the game. The win gets the Bears’ back to an even 2-2 (0-0) record this season. They will play their next game at home against Pepperdine.

Bears Get Back-To-Back Wins
UCA – 61 vs. Pepperdine – 59
December 2, 2007 – Coming into the game tonight, there was an open competition for starting center of the Bears between Teco Bills and Will Acker. Coach Erickson doesn’t even have a choice of who to play anymore. “This was the kind of player that I have always believed Will was. Tonight, he just proved it to everyone else” said Coach Erickson after the game. The freshman Acker’s line read 25 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. He hit every single shot he took. “He just dominated tonight. Pure and simple” said Coach Erickson. Fellow freshman Tasmin Gattling kept his impressive season going with a 16 point, 2 assist, and 2 steal performance. The Bears’ record is now at 3-2 (0-0). Their next game is a rematch against UC Irvine at home.

UCA Grabs Third Straight
UCA – 79 vs. UC Irvine – 75
December 8, 2007 – “Whenever you can beat a team twice in one year, you know you are playing at a high level” said Coach Erickson following the Bears’ win over UC Irvine tonight. Things looked bad for UCA when the team’s leader, Sam McFarlin, injured his ankle early in the first half. Thankfully, the injury was not severe and the team doctors think that McFarlin should be at full strength in about four days. Tasmin Gattling and Duane Rowe stepped in to fill the void left by McFarlin, scoring 21 points and 20 points respectively. Demetrice Blount also had a solid performance, ending with 10 points and 4 boards. Will Acker followed up his 25 point game against Pepperdine with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 block. The win elevates the Bears’ record to 4-2 (0-0). The Bears’ next game will be their toughest yet, as Utah comes into Conway.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Four In A Row For The Bears
UCA – 83 vs. Utah – 61
December 12, 2007 – The Bears pulled off a stunning upset on their home floor, beating heavily favored Utah by 22 points. “When we play as well as we did tonight, we can beat anyone. I truly believe that” said Coach Erickson after the biggest win of his career. The Bears were lead by the duo that UCA students are calling the “Baby Bears”: Tasmin Gattling and Will Acker. Gattling’s line read 19 points, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Will Acker tallied his first double-double, finishing with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks. The Bears’ senior leadership stepped up big tonight. Sam McFarlin scored 12 points and grabbed an incredible 6 steals. Demetrice Blount had yet another solid game, ending with 12 points and 2 rebounds. The fourth straight win for the Bears puts their record at and impressive 5-2 (0-0). UCA plays their next game away against Alabama A&M.

Five Straight Wins For UCA
UCA – 80 @ Alabama A&M – 67
December 22, 2007 – The University of Central Arkansas picked up their fifth straight win tonight against Alabama A&M. Coach Erickson has had his kids playing some great basketball lately. “Our two freshmen, Tasmin (Gattling) and Will (Acker) have really stepped up this year and everyone else is following their lead” said Coach Erickson. Tonight’s game was never really close as there was no answer for big Will Acker, who grabbed another double-double tonight, finishing with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 block. Fellow freshman Tasmin Gattling was also dominant tonight, picking up 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. The win raises the Bears’ record to 6-2 (0-0). They play their next game on the road at South Dakota State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Baby Bears” Lead The Charge For Sixth Straight
UCA – 76 @ South Dakota State – 66
December 26, 2007 – The secret for the Bears’ success lies within their super-freshmen, Will Acker and Tasmin Gattling “Gun”. Known collectively as the “Baby Bears” the duo was once again one-two in scoring. Gattling finished with 23 points, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Acker’s line read 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 1 block for his third career double-double. “Will (Acker) and Taz (Tasmin Gattling) have given us some terrific efforts so far and we hope it continues” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears are 7-2 (0-0) with the win tonight. Coach Erickson’s young team faces their toughest challenge so far this year in their next game when they go on the road for their rematch against Utah.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Utah Avenges Loss, Snaps Bears’ Win Streak
UCA – 60 @ Utah – 87
January 2, 2008 – The Bears’ New Year started off rough tonight, getting beat down by Utah, who they had upset earlier in the season. “I knew that Utah was going to come out with a vengeance tonight. They weren’t too happy about the beating we gave them at our house” said Coach Erickson after the game. Utah repaid the Bears for the December 12 game and then some. Will Acker (11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks) struggled to get his offence going tonight. Tasmin Gattling tallied 23 points and 2 steals. Sam McFarlin, who was still bothered by his ankle, showed signs that he is starting to recover with his 11 point and 5 steal effort. The Bears now stand at 7-3 (0-0). They play their final non conference game on the road against Bob Huggins and Kansas State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
K-State Just Too Much For UCA
UCA – 71 @ Kansas State – 81
January 5, 2008 – The Bears gave it everything they had, but it was not enough to hang with a more athletic Kansas State team. “We played hard all the way through and we were in it right until the last two minutes. Once Will (Acker) fouled out, I knew we were in trouble” said Coach Erickson in his press conference after the game. Acker (12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block) fouled out of the game with 2 minutes left in the game and the Bears down by 5. With Acker out of the game, Utah dominated the glass and tacked 5 more points on to their margin of victory. Tasmin Gattling and Sam McFarlin did their best tonight. Gattling finished with 26 points and 6 assists and McFarlin finished with 23 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. When asked if he was disappointed, Coach Erickson said “We played against a very talented team and we played them close. How can I be disappointed with that?”. The loss puts the Bears’ record at 7-4 (0-0). UCA plays their first Southland Conference game next week at home against the defending Southland Conference Tournament Champions, Northwestern State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Lose At Buzzer
UCA – 72 vs. Northwestern State – 75
January 12, 2008 – With 2 seconds on the clock and the game tied at 72, Northwestern State launched up a three from the wing that was nothing but net. “You never want to start off conference play with a loss, but coming this close to beating last years champs isn’t too shabby” said an optimistic Coach Erickson after the game. Tasmin Gattling (21 points, 3 assists, 3 steals) and Sam McFarlin (18 points, 5 steals) carried the team. Sophomore guard Clyde Feist came off the bench and dropped 9 points. Big man Will Acker struggled tonight, fouling out with 4 minutes left in the game. He finished with only 8 points and 3 rebounds. The Bears’ record is now 7-5 (0-1). Their conference schedule isn’t getting any easier. UCA travels to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi to face the reigning regular season champion Islanders and last year’s Southland Conference Player of the Year Stalin Beckwith.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Looks Impressive Against TXAM – CC
UCA – 75 @ Texas A&M – Corpus Christi – 62
January 17, 2008 – “They say to be the best, you have to beat the best, and that is what we did tonight” said Coach Erickson following the Bears’ win over last year’s Southland Conference Champions of the regular season. Tasmin Gattling (17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists), Clyde Feist (8 points), and Sam McFarlin (12 points, 2 steals) all played well, but they were not the story tonight. Everyone was focused on the match-up at center between last year’s Southland Conference Player of the Year TXAM – CC’s Stalin Beckwith and UCA’s super-freshman Will Acker. Acker won the battle tonight, picking up 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks for his fourth double-double of the year. “Will showed everyone that he is a big time player” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears’ first conference win of the year puts their record at 8-5 (1-1). UCA plays their next game away against Stephen F. Austin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bears Grab Back-To-Back Conference Wins
UCA – 82 @ Stephen F. Austin – 73
January 19, 2008 – The Bears are beginning to gel and that is bad news for the rest of the Southland Conference. “I saw some impressive teamwork tonight and if we keep this up, we will be tough to beat” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. Everyone got involved tonight with four Bears scoring in double figures: Sam McFarlin (17 points, 2 assists, 5 steals), Tasmin Gattling (15 points, 5 assists, 3 steals), Will Acker (14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Teco Bills (12 points, rebounds) and two more, Demetrice Blount and Clyde Feist, with 9 points. The win makes the Bears 9-5 (2-1). Their next game is at home against McNeese State.

Comments: The Bears are playing well through the first half of their season. It’s incredible what a difference a year makes. With impressive wins against Utah, UC Irvine, and Pepperdine the Bears are building up a nice resume. Super-freshmen Will Acker and Tasmin Gattling “Gun” need to keep playing the way they are for this early success to continue. With Senior Sam McFarlin starting to heat up, UCA is going to be a serious contender for both the Southland Conference Regular and Tournament champs.

2k Sports Network Recruiting Update
January 21, 2008 – The midseason signing period is over and while there were no recruits who signed with UCA during the period, Coach Erickson still has all of his targets on that were on his list prior to the signing period available. Mike Roberts of 2kpreps.com has a list of the recruits on the list of the University of Arkansas’ list.
1) Shadden Danley 6’5” 194 lbs. SF: Danley has been recruited by UCA since his junior year. Danley was a 3* then, but he has since been downgraded by most coaches. Coach Erickson still thinks highly of the high school senior out of Memphis, TN. He reportedly thinks that Danley’s intelligence and hustle could provide leadership for his young team. Danley is a 2* recruit ranked 110th at his position and 496th overall.
2) Ronnie Proffitt 6’0” 162 lbs. SG: Proffitt is a high school senior from St. Louis, MO. He is an undersized shooting guard, but Coach Erickson sees potential for him as a point guard. He would be brought in to move Tasmin Gattling off the ball to help him develop as an offensive threat even more. Proffitt is a solid all-around player whose greatest strength is his quickness. Proffitt is a 3* recruit ranked 106th at his position and 389th overall.
3) Keith Collison 6’6” 193 lbs. PF: A high school senior out of Bollingbrook, IL Collision is an athletic forward that can play at either SF or PF. Coach Erickson is currently in a recruiting war with NIU for Collison, with neither school having a clear lead. Collison’s strength is on the offensive side of the ball, where he can use his phenomenal leaping ability to create havoc. Collison is a 3* recruit ranked 32nd at his position and 241st overall.
4) Bruno Carlson 6’6” 210 lbs. SF: Carlson is another hybrid forward being recruited by Coach Erickson. Carlson, a Newark, NJ native is also being recruited by Princeton, Bucknell, and Penn. He is a good shooter and a very intelligent player with great leadership potential. Carlson is a 3* recruit ranked 42nd at his position and 193rd overall.
5) Tim Burton 6’4” 203 lbs. SG: Yet another player that would be used at more than one position, Burton would allow Coach Erickson to run a big lineup by playing him at shooting guard and a small lineup by playing him at small forward. Burton is the sole world recruit on Coach Erickson’s list (he hails from Senegal) and with the recent success of Tasmin Gattling, Coach Erickson is more than willing give another world recruit guard a chance. Burton, like most of the recruits looking into UCA, is an intelligent hustle player. Burton is a 3* player, but he has not been compared to the other players in his recruiting class.

UCA Starts Another Win Streak
UCA – 64 vs. McNeese State – 45
January 24, 2008 – Last season, the McNeese State press was just too much for the Bears to handle. This season, Tasmin Gattling carved it up like a seasoned veteran. “We didn’t even have to run a press break” said Coach Erickson after the game “Taz (Tasmin Gattling) just blew right past them”. Gattling put up some nice numbers in addition to his ball handling skills, finishing with 19 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Will Acker quietly had one of the best games of his young career, finishing with 17 points and a career high 15 rebounds and 8 blocks for his sixth career double-double. Sam McFarlin and Clyde Feist also contributed with 11 points and 9 points respectively. The win puts the Bears at 10-5 (3-1). Their next game is away against UTA.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fourth Win In A Row For UCA
UCA – 75 @ UTA – 68
January 26, 2008 – The Baby Bears took this game over from the beginning and never looked back. “Taz (Tasmin Gattling) and Will (Acker) put on another show tonight. I could get used to this” said Coach Erickson with a smile in his post game press conference. Gattling pumped in 26 points to go with his 3 assists and 3 steals. Will Acker picked up 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Duane Rowe (10 points), Sam McFarlin (8 points, 3 assists, and 6 steals), and Clyde Feist (8 points) made up the Bears’ supporting cast. Tonight’s win raises the Bears’ record to 11-5 (4-1). UCA puts its win streak on the line when they face Texas State at home.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bears Keep Streak Alive In Dramatic Fashion
UCA – 65 vs. Texas State – 64
February 2, 2008 – The Bears’ win streak was in jeopardy with time winding down and 10 seconds left. UCA trailed by 2. Coach Erickson had his team bring the ball over half court and called his final timeout to set up an inbounds play for a final shot. “I looked at Taz (Tasmin Gattling) in the huddle and told him that it was his shot” said Coach Erickson after the game. Gattling cut from the top of the key, caught a pass in the corner and drilled a wide open three as time expired, giving the Bears the win. The shot put Gattling’s final line at 24 points, 2 assists, and 5 steals. Other notables for the Bears were Will Acker (15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block) and Clyde Feist (15 points). UCA now stands at 12-5 (5-1) this season. They play their next game at Sam Houston State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Win Streak Ends For UCA
UCA – 67 @ Sam Houston State – 73
February 7, 2008 – The Bears lost their first game in two and a half weeks tonight. “They just flat out beat us. We played well but it wasn’t enough” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. The freshmen did indeed play well tonight. The Baby Bears Tasmin Gattling picked up 27 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Will Acker earned his seventh career double-double, finishing with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sam McFarlin also did what he could to bring the Bears a win putting up 11 points, 2 assists, and 6 steals. The loss snaps the Bears’ win streak and drops their record down to 12-6 (5-2). UCA will play its next game at home against Southeast Louisiana.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Bounce Back
UCA – 85 vs. Southeast Louisiana – 54
February 9, 2008 – “What can I say? My players were angry about losing their last game and they just took it out on Southeast Louisiana tonight” said Coach Erickson after the game. It seemed like everyone on the Bears came out to show the Southland Conference that they were ready to start another win streak. Tasmin Gattling (21 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) and Sam McFarlin (21 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals) lead all scores tonight. The other three Bears in double figures were Clyde Feist (13 points), Demetrice Blount (10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks) and Will Acker (16 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists) who grabbed his eighth career double-double. The Bears are now 13-6 (6-2) this season. They will play their next game at home against UTSA.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back-To-Back Wins For UCA At Home
UCA – 77 vs. UTSA – 64
February 14, 2008 – The air was sucked out of the entire town of Conway, AR when one member of the Baby Bears, Will Acker went down to the floor in pain early in the game. “We brought him over to the bench, the trainer looked at it and said it was a quadriceps strain. I was ready to play the game without him, but Will wanted to go back in and I figured I’d see what he could do” said Coach Erickson after the game. What Will Acker did was lead all scorers with 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Sam McFarlin (14 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals) and Tasmin Gattling (13 points, 5 assists) kept the game close in Acker’s absence. Team doctors say that the quad will likely bother Acker for another two weeks. Acker’s gutsy performance puts the Bears at 14-6 (7-2) this season. They will play their next game at home against Nicholls State.

Coach’s Press Conference
Conway, AR – February 15, 2008 – At a press conference this morning, Coach Erickson addressed concerns about his future at UCA and about the injury to Will Acker. First Coach Erickson talked about his future with the university. “We have a great young team here at UCA that is just starting to buy into my system. My staff and I have also been hitting the recruiting trail hard and we believe that we will be bringing in some phenomenal young men to our school” said Coach Erickson.
In regards to the injury to freshman big man Will Acker, Coach Erickson said “I spoke with the team doctors and they assured me that Will (Acker) would not risk any further injury to the quad if he chose to play. Will is a young man with a lot of heart and I believe that he is going to play in our next game”.
Coach Erickson also had one more special announcement. “I pleased to announce” said Coach Erickson “that my wife Karen and I are expecting our first child in late July or early August”. Our congratulations go out to Coach Erickson and his wife at this exciting announcement.

UCA Grabs Third Straight With Win
UCA – 64 vs. Nicholls State – 59
February 16, 2008 – “We played a solid game tonight but we are going to need some of our other players to step up if we are going to improve” said Coach Erickson after the game. Big Will Acker seemed like a man on a mission trying to prove that his injured quad would not affect his game. Acker finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Tasmin Gattling (16 points, 2 rebounds, 2assists, 5 steals) and Sam McFarlin (12 points, 4 steals) quite literally stole the game away for the Bears tonight. The Bears’ record is elevated to 15-6 (8-2) after tonight’s win. UCA goes on the road for their next game which is a rematch against McNeese State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
McFarlin Works Magic, Win Steak Now At Four
UCA – 83 @ McNeese State – 82
February 21, 2008 – This year’s Bears team seems to have an affinity for hitting the big shot when they need it. The hero tonight was senior Sam McFarlin. The game was tied at 80 and McNeese State had the ball with 45 seconds left in the game. McNeese State worked the clock down to 20 seconds, drove to the basket, and sunk a contested runner in the lane that put them up by two. Tasmin Gattling (17 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) ran the ball up the floor, drove to the basket and then kicked the ball out to a wide open Sam McFarlin (16 points, 4 assists, 7 steals) who calmly drilled the game winning three and finished with a fist pump. Will Acker was the leading scorer tonight, finishing with 26 points and 7 rebounds. “Sam has always been willing to take the big shot” said Coach Erickson after the game “he is a clutch player who will be greatly missed next year”. McFarlin’s magic adds another win to the Bears’ record, which is now 16-6 (9-2). The Bears play there next game at home against UTA.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Streak Continues With Blowout
UCA – 84 vs. UTA – 57
February 23, 2008 – “When everyone on your team contributes like our guys did tonight, you will have a hard time losing games” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. The Bears played lockdown defense and when they got the ball, it seemed like it didn’t matter who shot it. It was going in the basket. Will Acker came up big again, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 block for his ninth career double-double. Sam McFarlin (17 points, 2 steals), Clyde Feist (16 points, 2 steals) and Tasmin Gattling (15 points, 2 assists) rounded out the list of the four Bears in double figures tonight. The victory pushes the Bears to 17-6 (10-2) this season, giving them as many wins this year as they had losses last season. The Bears march into a showdown for Southland Conference supremacy when they go up against the Lamar Cardinals in their next match-up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
McFarlin, Gattling Run And Gun The Bears To Victory
UCA – 98 @ Lamar – 90
February 28, 2008 – “When the score started getting up there, I stared getting worried, because we usually play in the high 60s to low 80s and this game was clearly going to take over 90 points to win” said Coach Erickson, following the win over Lamar. Sam McFarlin and Tasmin Gattling took care of the scoring. Gattling had his best game as a Bear scoring 27 points and piling up 10 assists for his first career double-double. McFarlin was the recipient of the majority of those assists, leading all scorers with 33 points. Will Acker played a solid game down low, ending with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Clyde Feist was pumping in threes while McFarlin caught his breath, finishing with 15 points off of 4/6 shooting from deep. The sixth straight win pushes the Bears to 18-6 (11-2). The Bears go into a trap game when they travel to Texas State who they defeated by only 1 point in their last match up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tired Bears Can’t Find Offense, Lose To Texas State
UCA – 68 @ Texas State – 79
March 1, 2008 – When asked about his team in the post game, Coach Erickson said “I wasn’t so surprised at the loss we were coming off a very physically demanding win and as you could see, my guys were still recovering”. Tasmin Gattling did what he could, ending with 24 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Sam McFarlin and Will Acker both looked a little sluggish tonight finishing with 16 points and 2 steals and 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks respectively. The loss snaps the Bears six game winning streak and hands them only their third loss in Southland Conference play. UCA’s record is now 18-7 (11-3). The Bears return home for Senior Night where they will face Sam Houston State.

Bears Rebound On Senior Night
UCA – 78 vs. Sam Houston State – 69
March 6, 2008 – “I was just glad to get the win for the seniors tonight. Demetrice (Blount), Bronski (Ogunoye), and Sam (McFarlin) are fine young men who have seen how far we have come in one season. I will miss them all dearly” said a teary eyed Coach Erickson following the Bears’ Senior Night win over the Bearkats. The three seniors were all honored in a ceremony before they took their place in the starting line up. McFarlin played brilliantly, finishing his final home game with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Blount (10 points, 6 rebounds) and Ogunoye (5 points) finished their last game in Conway strong. Even though it hurts to lose such great seniors, the future is looking bright for the Bears. Will Acker grabbed his tenth career double-double finishing with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 block. Tasmin Gattling also played well picking up 17 points to go with his 5 assists and 5 steals. The win puts the Bears at 19-7 (12-3) and places them in a position to clinch the Southland Conference Regular Season Championship in their final regular season game on the road against Southeast Louisiana.

Bears Win Regular Season Crown
UCA – 85 @ Southeast Louisiana – 75
March 8, 2008 – This was a day to remember for the University of Central Arkansas. In just their second season as a Division I program, the Bears won the Southland Conference Regular Season Championship. “Tonight’s win really exemplifies what we were like as a team this season” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Baby Bears Tasmin Gattling and Will Acker lead the way. Gattling scored a career high 30 points to go with 3 steals. Acker picked up his eleventh career double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Sam McFarlin finished the last regular season game of his career strong with a 19 point, 3 assist, and 5 steal performance. UCA’s final regular season record stands at 20-7 (13-3) giving both the school and Coach Erickson their first 20 win seasons. The Bears will enjoy the win for the weekend before traveling to Houston for the Southland Conference Tournament.

UCA Gets Win In Round 1
UCA – 72 vs. Texas State – 59
March 13, 2008 – UCA won their first Southland Conference Tournament win in school history tonight with their victory over Texas State. “I was a little worried going into the game. Texas State has given us some trouble this year but tonight, we came to win” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears came out on fire, hitting their first eight shots and jumping out to an early 20-6 lead and they never looked back. Sam McFarlin led all scorers with 19 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Will Acker finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds and Tasmin Gattling picked up a solid 14 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. March 16, 2008 – “Whew!” was all that Coach Erickson could utter at the start of his post game press conference. Tonight’s Southland Conference Final was by far the most intense game Coach Erickson had ever been involved in. “I am still in awe of the way my guys played tonight” said Coach Erickson. Tasmin Gattling picked the right night to have a performance of a lifetime. Gattling scored 42 points and picked up 6 steals and 2 assists. “I knew Taz (Tasmin Gattling) could score, but I never expected to see 42 points out of a freshman. He is an incredible player” said Coach Erickson of Gattling. Will Acker pitched in with his thirteenth career double-double ending with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assist. Sam McFarlin piled up 17 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Clyde Feist pumped in 16 points from off the bench. The Bears’ record this season is now 23-7 with the win. 2k Sports Network NCAA Bracketology
New York, NY – March 16, 2008 – The brackets for this year’s NCAA Tournament are in and we are breaking down each match-up for the round of 65. We will start in the Charlotte Bracket where one of the most intriguing match-ups of the first round will take place in the 8 vs. 9 game, where the 8 seeded Bears of UCA will go up against the heavily favored 9 seed, the Marquette Golden Eagles. UCA is lead by Head Coach Doug Erickson and a couple of super-freshmen, point guard Tasmin Gattling and center Will Acker. The Bears won both the Southland Conference Tournament and the Southland Conference Regular Season.
Marquette is heavily favored in the match-up even though they are the lower seed. Some analysts will point out that UCA is capable of playing above their potential. They beat a solid Utah team which is actually the 7 seed in the Charlotte bracket. Our eyes will certainly be glued to the television when these two teams go up against each other.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Wins First NCAA Tournament Game In School History
(8) UCA – 69 vs. (9) Marquette – 65
March 20, 2008 – “Even though we were the higher seed, most people were thinking of Marquette as the favorite. I think we showed everyone why we earned an 8 seed this season” said Coach Erickson. In just his second year as a Division I coach, Erickson lead the Bears to a win in their first ever NCAA tournament appearance. The player of the game was by far freshman Will Acker. Marquette had no answer for the 7’1” monster in the paint. Acker finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks including a hook shot in the paint to put the Bears up by 2 and then a rebound at the other end of the court after Marquette’s first shot of their possession. Acker was fouled and he calmly stepped to the line and drained two free throws to ice the game. Tasmin Gattling (16 points), Clyde Feist (15 points), and Sam McFarlin (10 points, 5 steals) also helped to propel the Bears to victory. The win puts the Bears’ record this season at 24-7. They will move on to the second round where they will face the 1 seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Georgia Tech Ends UCA’s Season
(8) UCA – 73 vs. (1) Georgia Tech – 99
March 23, 2008 – The Bears ended their season last night with a loss to Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets came out strong and proceeded to run the Bears right into the ground. “I’m not too worried about the score” said Coach Erickson to his players after the game “I’m proud of each and every single one of you. You left it all on the floor tonight”. The Bears played hard, like they have all season long, but they were simply overmatched by a physically superior Georgia Tech team. Tasmin Gattling played a good game, finishing with 23 points, 3 assists, and 5 steals. Sam McFarlin closed out his final game in a Bears uniform with an 18 point performance. Will Acker was never able to get fully established and finished with a sub-par 10 points and 6 rebounds. The Bears finish the year with an impressive 24-8 record. UCA should be proud to be represented by such a fine group of young men.

Coach’s Press Conference
Conway, AR - April 14, 2008 - The town of Conway, AR breathed a collective sigh of relief when at a press conference held at the University of Central Arkansas today, Head Coach Doug Erickson announced that he will be returning to the school next year. Sources at 2kSN.com reported that Coach Erickson was at the top of the list of mid-major Indiana State. Erickson was also reportedly the top candidate to fill vacancies at small conference schools Belmont, Vermont, Delaware State, Costal Carolina, Radford, and Grambling. Erickson turned down all those offers and accepted a 1-year deal for an undisclosed amount to return to UCA. When asked why he decided to stay, Coach Erickson responded “We have a fine group of players returning this year and I want to show everyone that what we accomplished last season was not a fluke”. Coach Erickson and his staff will now be hitting the recruiting trail hard to try and fill the shoes of seniors Sam McFarlin, Demetrice Blount, and Bronski Ogunoye, who were all in the starting line up last season.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2k Sports Network Recruiting Alert
New York, NY – The recruiting period has begun and coaches are adjusting their priority lists every hour. Mike Roberts of 2kpreps.com has an updated list of the players being recruited so far this season by the University of Central Arkansas’ Coach Doug Erickson.
1) Kenney Whitted 6’7” 226 lbs. SF: Whitted quickly jumped up to the top of UCA’s list recently because other interested schools have withdrawn their scholarship offers. Whitted is the Mr. Basketball of Arkansas and he would be a massive catch for Coach Erickson. Whitted’s size would most likely have him starting in the power forward spot if he signs with UCA. Kenney is a 3* recruit from Little Rock, AR.
2) Ronnie Proffitt 6’0” 167 lbs. SG: Ronnie is one of the five players that have been on Coach Erickson’s list since the beginning of the season. Coach Erickson has reportedly compared Proffitt to Sam McFarlin saying “he is like Sam, but with better passing and ball handling skills”. Proffitt would be converted to a point guard if he signs with UCA so that Tasmin Gattling could move back to shooting guard, which is his natural position. Proffitt is a 3* recruit from St. Louis, MO.
3) Shaddean Danley 6’5” 204 lbs. SF: Danley has been getting phone calls from Coach Erickson and his staff since the beginning of his junior season. It more likely that the Memphis, TN native will sign with the Bears as many schools have lost interest in him due to poor play in his senior season. Danley would have a shot to start over senior Tavon Flowers if he impresses Coach Erickson during pre-season workouts. Danley is a 2* recruit.
4) Keith Collison 6’6” 193 lbs. PF: Collison is an undersized power forward at only 193 lbs. but he fits the mold of a sixth man perfectly. The high school senior from Bolingbrook, IL is quick and athletic, allowing him to play at the small forward spot as well as the power forward spot. Collison has been in UCA’s sights since the beginning of the year. He is a 3* recruit.
5) Bruno Carlson 6’6” 210 lbs. SF: Carlson is another hybrid forward who is quick enough to play on the wing, but big enough to play on the blocks. It seems unlikely at this point that the Bears will be able to sign Carlson. The Newark, NJ native has been getting a lot of attention from Rutgers University and he really want to play his college ball close to home. UCA is the second team on his list behind Rutgers. Carlson is a 3* recruit.
6) Tim Burton 6’4” 203 lbs. SG: Burton is an athletic slasher-type guard who loves to penetrate to the rim and slam it home. He would provide the Bears with some depth at the guard position. It is rumored that Coach Erickson is a little skeptical of his fundamentals because he is a foreign player, from Senegal, that is still unfamiliar with the American game. It is becoming more unlikely everyday that Burton will sign with UCA as Clemson has set its sights on him. Burton is a 3* recruit.

congrats on the super season. Kudos to your big gun, Gattling. Looking forward to another good season for you at UCA. Some good recruits that will help continue to build this program.
any thoughts of trying to add Arkansas or a Big 12 team to your schedule next year? Still might lose those games at this stage, but playing a couple big teams seems to help down the road.

I'm planning on scheduling at least Arkansas and maybe Mizzou, Texas, or LSU next year if I stay with UCA. I didn't really want to play with the big boys until I felt that I had a shot of staying within 20 points of them. We are a much better team this year and next year we will be even better because we only have one senior graduating. I've already started season 3 and I will have some updates incoming soon. Thanks for following all!

Conway, AR – May 3, 2008 – At a press conference held earlier at the University of Central Arkansas, Head Coach Doug Erickson held a press conference to introduce the incoming freshman members of the UCA Men’s Basketball team. The following is Coach Erickson’s statement that he made at the press conference:
“Good afternoon everyone! Standing behind me are four fine young men who will be joining the University of Central Arkansas’ Men’s Basketball program. I’m going to introduce each of them individually and tell you about what I anticipate their roll will be here. First I would like to introduce Ronnie Proffitt. Ronnie played shooting guard in high school, but he will be moving over to the point for us next year so that Tasmin Gattling can move over to shooting guard. Ronnie has great court vision and will fit well at the point. Next, I want to introduce Keith Collison. Keith is a phenomenal athlete who is versatile enough to play on the wing or in the post. We will try him out at both the small and power forward spots. The next player joining us this season is Shaddean Danley. Shaddean will jump right into the starting line up at the small forward spot. Last but not least, I would like to introduce you all to Kenney Whitted. Kenney, as most of you know, was Mr. Basketball from the state of Arkansas. He will most likely start the season at the power forward spot in the starting line up. I look forward to getting next year underway so that these guys can integrate themselves within our family”.

Season 3
(September 23, 2008 – Coach Erickson’s Office)
“What an off-season!” thought Coach Erickson. Just last week, on the 14, Karen gave birth to their first child, a son named William. Coach Erickson’s life had been a whirlwind recently between recruiting, getting prepared for this season, and getting ready for the baby. He didn’t even get the chance to prepare for today’s meeting with his assistants, Cory and Marlon. “At least Paul isn’t breathing down my neck this year” Coach Erickson thought.
Just then, Coach Wallace and Coach Udezue walked into Coach Erickson’s office. “Hi Coach!” said Cory. “Good Afternoon guys. I hope you are ready to get going this year” said Coach Erickson. “Aren’t we always?” responded Coach Udezue. “Of course” said Coach Erickson. Coach Erickson began his speech “This team is going to be hungry for discipline and leadership. We only have one senior, Tavon Flowers, and he was a JuCo transfer last year, so we are young and with that youth comes inexperience. We are all going to have to be at the top of our game to make sure that we can get back to the dance again this year. I know I can count on you both. Alright, are we ready set up in the locker room for weigh-ins Cory?”. “We are ready when you are Doug” responded Coach Wallace. “Aright then guys, I’ll meet you there in twenty minutes” said Coach Erickson. “Should we schedule tryouts for Friday night?” asked Coach Udezue. “Yeah, Friday sounds good Marlon” said Coach Erickson. Coach Erickson’s third season at UCA was about to begin.

Bears Look Good At Midnight Madness
October 27, 2008 – The crowd in Conway was electric tonight as the new members of the Bears took to the floor for Midnight Madness. “It was great to see the support from the student body tonight. When I first came here, not a lot of people cared about the basketball team” said Coach Erickson after the scrimmage “I guess all it took to get people excited was a regular season and tournament conference championship, a conference player of the year, an NCAA tournament win, and the most talented recruiting class ever seen by the school” he joked. The freshmen were indeed impressive tonight. Point guard Ronnie Proffitt, forward Kenny Whitted, forward Shaddean Danley, and forward Keith Collison all showed why they were so heavily recruited by Coach Erickson. Tasmin Gattling “Gun” and Will Acker showed absolutely no signs of a sophomore slump. The Bears will be running practices for the next few weeks in preparation for their opening game of the season, which will be played in Conway against IPFW on November 16.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sophomore Stars and Fresh Faces Come Together For Win
UCA – 66 vs. IPFW – 36
November 16, 2008 – When the Bears stepped on their home floor tonight against IPFW, no one was quite sure what to expect. The Bears opened up the game with a 20-4 run, playing great defense, cleaning the glass, and filling it up on the offensive end of the floor. “We got off to a great start tonight, both in the game and in our season, but I don’t want the guys to get too comfortable. We aren’t going to open up every game like that and it’s important that they realize that” said Coach Erickson after the game. Tasmin Gattling politely reminded everyone why he was not only the best freshman, but the best player in the Southland Conference last season, scoring 20 points to go with 3 steals. Will Acker is starting to become the human double-double. His 13 point and 13 rebound performance earned him his fifteenth career double-double. Freshmen Kenny Whitted (12 points, 5 rebounds) and Ronnie Proffitt (11 points) also impressed tonight. The Bears start the season right and now stand at 1-0 (0-0). The Bears will be in for a test in their next game, when the travel to Washington to play the #4 ranked Huskies.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Get Wake Up Call, Fall Hard To Huskies
UCA – 64 @ #4 Washington – 104
November 21, 2008 – “We pretty much got dominated in every possible way” said Coach Erickson after the game. This was the lost worst for UCA since Coach Erickson’s first season. Coach Erickson was not disheartened by the loss however, saying “I think that this will show us what it takes to be ranked as one of the top five teams in the nation”. Tasmin Gattling scored 13 points, but never really got going. Will Acker had a rough game, struggling to pick up 11 points and 3 rebounds. Ronnie Proffitt and Kenny Whitted finished with 11 points and 9 points respectively. The loss drops the Bears to an even 1-1 (0-0) so far this year. UCA will try to rebound in their next game on the road against Pepperdine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Drop Back-to-Back Games
UCA – 65 @ Pepperdine – 72
November 23, 2008 – The Bears lost back-to-back games tonight for the first time since January of last year, where they lost three in a row to Utah, Kansas State, and Northwestern State. “Everyone is still learning how to play well together. We have three new guys in our starting lineup and it is going to take a while for them to gel” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears did look like they were having a difficult time communicating on the floor tonight. Tasmin Gattling had a sub-par performance ending with 15 points and 4 steals. Ronnie Proffitt still has a lot to learn about playing the point, but he did finish with 14 points and 2 steals. Will Acker had his second poor game in a row, finishing with 7 points and 7 rebounds. The loss puts the Bears at 1-2 (0-0) this year. The Bears return to Conway to play Cal Poly in their next game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Blast Cal Poly
UCA – 94 vs. Cal Poly – 61
November 26, 2008 – When ask what got his team so fired up for the game tonight, Coach Erickson said “Let me just say, the guys weren’t so happy about our conditioning the last few practices”. The Bears came out looking like a team possessed. There were seven Bears in double figures tonight lead by Tasmin Gattling with 19 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals and Will Acker with 11 points and 11 boards. D’Jamal Barley had a breakout 12 point performance off the bench. UCA’s four new freshmen Ronnie Proffitt (17 points, 3 steals), Shaddean Danley (10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Kenny Whitted (10 points, 5 rebounds) and Keith Collision (10 points, 2 rebounds) rounded out the group that handed out tonight’s beating. The Bears bring their record up to 2-2 (0-0) this season. The Bears will head to Chicago where they will play in the A Group of the Windy City Invitational Tournament. Their first round match-up is against Longwood.

UCA Gets A Solid Win In Chicago
UCA – 87 vs. Longwood – 71
November 28, 2008 – The Longwood Lancers looked overmatched tonight in their semifinal game against UCA. “I’m glad to get that first non-conference tournament win under my belt” said Coach Erickson during his post game press conference. Fellow freshmen Kenny Whitted (13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Ronnie Proffitt (12 points, 6 assists) were also highly effective. Will Acker had one of the best games of his career, dominating the inside and ending the game with 17 points, a career high 16 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Tasmin Gattling kept started to look like the player he was last year with his 18 point and 4 steal performance. The win gives the Bears a 3-2 (0-0) record and puts them in the finals of the Windy City Invitational Tournament where they will face the winner of North Carolina A&T and Youngstown State tomorrow night.

Bears Keep Win Streak With Upset Against San Fran
UCA – 76 vs. San Fran – 64
November 30, 2008 – The Bears’ starters looked very impressive again in tonight’s upset over San Francisco. “We aren’t even playing at our full potential right now” said Coach Erickson after the game. It’s hard to believe that Coach Erickson could have been hoping for more tonight. Tasmin Gattling led UCA with 16 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Will Acker picked up his third straight double-double, finishing with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and 1 block. Ronnie Proffitt is starting to settle into his roll as point guard, sparking the Bears’ offense with 15 points and 6 assists. Shaddean Danley (14 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals) and Kenny Whitted (10 points, 5 rebounds) also played well. The upset makes the Bears 5-2 (0-0) this season. UCA goes on the road again to face Cal Poly.

UCA Wins Rematch, Gets Five In-A-Row
UCA – 72 @ Cal Poly – 57
December 6, 2008 – “We have a nice little win streak going now and I would like to keep it going in the right direction” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference. The Bears are playing some seriously good basketball during their last four games. Tonight’s win was led by Tasmin Gattling, who put up 21 points, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Ronnie Proffitt seems to have truly embraced the point guard position, finishing with 11 points, a school record 11 assists, and 3 steals to grab his first career double-double. Will Acker picked up his twentieth career and fourth straight double-double tonight with his 12 point, 12 board, 2 block performance. Shaddean Danley (10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals) and Kenny Whitted (10 points, 7 rebounds) continued their solid freshmen seasons. The win elevates the Bears’ record to 6-2 (0-0) this year. They will play their next game on the road against Texas Southern.

Bears Escape Close Game, Steak Now At Seven
UCA – 68 @ Texas Southern – 65
December 20, 2008 – “If there is any team in the NCAA that should know to never take a team lightly, it should be us” said Coach Erickson after his team narrowly escaped being upset at Texas Southern. Ronnie Proffitt and Tasmin Gattling led the Bears to victory tonight. Proffitt grabbed his third straight double-double tonight, finishing with 12 points, 10 assists, and 3 steals. Gattling had a solid game, coming in with 19 points and 4 steals. Shaddean Danley hit some big shots down the stretch to make his line read 10 points, 3 boards, and 2 steals. Will Acker had a tough time getting his shot tonight, finishing with only 9 points to go with his 10 rebounds. The Bears are up to an impressive 8-2 (0-0). They will go for their school record for consecutive wins when they go on the road for their rematch with IPFW.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Freshman Ronnie Proffitt did all he could tonight, ending with 17 points, 8 assists, and 5 steals. Kenny Whitted had another solid game, finishing with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. UCA Rebounds To Upset Sooners
UCA – 76 @ Oklahoma – 67
January 3, 2009 – After the loss to Wyoming, Coach Erickson met with his team. “I just told the guys what I expect from them this season. I told them we would make a big statement going into our conference schedule if we won tonight” said Coach Erickson after the game. The Bears went back to a formula of team basketball. Everyone got involved tonight. There were five Bears in double figures. Tasmin Gattling finished with 17 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Will Acker picked up 13 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 block to tally yet another double-double. Kenny Whitted (12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Ronnie Proffitt (10 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) both played well. Junior big man Teco Bills came off the bench to provide 10 points and 5 rebounds. The Bears are now 10-3 (0-0). The next game for UCA is at home against UTA where they will play their first conference game this season.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Starts Southland Play the Right Way
UCA – 87 vs. UTA – 62
January 10, 2009 – The Bears officially began the defense of their Southland Conference crowns with an absolute drumming of the University of Texas at Arlington. Tasmin Gattling struck early and often collecting 22 points, 5 steals, and 2 rebounds. “Taz (Tasmin Gattling) is simply a dominating player. He is a scoring machine and his defense has really improved since last year” said Coach Erickson after the game. Gattling was one of six Bears in double digits. The others were Ronnie Proffitt (15 points, 5 assists), Kenny Whitted (12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block), Will Acker (10 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks), and Teco Bills (13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks). The win gives the Bears an 11-3 (1-0) record this season. They will start their Texas road trip in their next game against Texas State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three-In-A-Row for UCA
UCA – 66 @ Texas State – 61
January 15, 2009 – UCA and Texas State has become a bit of a Southland Conference rivalry lately. Last season, the Bears won the first game against Texas State by 1. In their second game, Texas State avenged their earlier loss. They played for a third and final time in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament; where UCA blew out Texas State and went on to win the tournament. “We have some history with them” said Coach Erickson “but I don’t think I would call them our rival”. Tonight sure seemed like a rivalry. Tasmin Gattling (15 points, 4 rebounds, 6 steals) seemed to be particularly effected by the crowd noise, as he was having a lot of difficulty getting his shot to fall. The slack was picked up by Ronnie Proffitt (10 points, 5 assists) and Will Acker. Acker (14 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block) picked up his 25th career double-double. The win puts UCA at 12-3 (2-0) so far this year. The Bears play their next game on the road against slumping Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Get Fourth Straight Win
UCA – 86 @ TXAM–CC – 63
January 17, 2009 – Once at the top of the Southland Conference, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi has been in a slump recently due to poor play and poor recruiting. Tonight, UCA showed everyone that they are on the rise while the Islanders are on the fall. Tasmin Gattling torched the Islanders all night long, ending with 22 points and 6 steals. Ronnie Proffitt (16 points, 6 steals, 3 assists), Will Acker (13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block), Shaddean Danley (11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals) and Kenny Whitted (8 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 block) rounded out the notables for the Bears. When asked about his team’s performance thus far, Coach Erickson said “We are just rolling along right now. I can’t expect us to do this all year long, but I’m planning on riding it for as long as we can”. The win raises the Bears’ record to 13-3 (3-0). They will play Northwestern State at home in their next game.

2k Sports Network Recruiting Update
January 18, 2008 – The midseason signing period has come and went and 2kpreps.com’s Mike Roberts has a list of the targets being courted by Coach Erickson and his staff this season. No recruits signed with UCA during the midseason period, but Coach Erickson still has his targets available. UCA has two available scholarships.
1) Garry Parks 6’7” 240 lbs. PF: Parks, the son of American missionaries, was born and raised in Lithuania. This means that he has flown under the radar of many teams. Parks is a physical freak at 240 lbs. of pure muscle stacked onto a 6’7” frame. To put that size in perspective, he weighs in at only five pounds lighter than 7’1” Will Acker. He is a force in the paint and on the glass. Parks would fit in perfectly with a Bears team that has become more focused on rebounding in recent years. UCA is the only team on Parks’ list. He is a 3* recruit.
2) Earl Smallwood 6’8” 197 lbs. SF: Smallwood is anything but small. He is from Anchorage, Alaska where he was the state’s Mr. Basketball. Smallwood’s game is all about grabbing boards, slashing to the basket, and looking for the mid-range jumper. His size and athleticism make him a natural dunker and shot blocker. It is rumored that UCA and Portland are in a war to grab Smallwood and both schools have reportedly offered him scholarships. Smallwood is ranked 264 overall and 68 at his position. He is a 3* recruit.
3) Virgil Dressel 6’7” 204 lbs. PF (JuCo FR): Dressel is a JuCo Freshman who is originally from Houston, Texas. Dressel is a solid all-around player that would most likely only receive an offer if Parks or Smallwood cannot be signed. He could play at either forward spot, as he has sufficient ball handling and shooting ability. He is also no slouch on the blocks. It is his utility that is attracting attention from UCA and Prairie View. It is rumored that Dressel is holding out hope that UCA will offer him a scholarship. Dressel is a 3* recruit.

the missionary story makes sense. Coach Bailey had that issue a few years back.
Good start to the season. Looks like your team has come together and rebounded from a tough time last year.
Wyoming is a tough team at times. They've played like mad wolves against some of my TCU teams. I see that you have to play them again this year. Good Luck!

Fifth-In-A-Row For UCA
UCA – 75 vs. Northwestern State – 72
January 22, 2009 – The Bears kept their undefeated Southland Conference record intact after holding off a late surge by Northwestern State. The Bears took a 14 point lead into the last five minutes of the when the Demons went on a tear, eventually tying the game at 72 with one minute left. Coach Erickson called a timeout to gather his team before the crucial possession. “I told them to work it inside to Kenny (Whitted) or Will (Acker). If either of them had a shot, I wanted them to take it. Otherwise, I wanted them to kick out to Taz (Tasmin Gattling)” said Coach Erickson after the game. Ronnie Proffitt (12 points) brought the ball up the floor and threw it into Whitted (11 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals, 1 block) who posted up his man. The Demons doubled down on Whitted, so he kicked the ball out to a wide open Gattling (21 points, 2 assists, 3 steals) who drilled a three, which put the Bears up for good. The win gives the Bears a 14-3 (4-0) record. UCA goes on the road in their next game to play Nicholls State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bears Keep Rolling
UCA – 98 @ Nicholls State – 88
January 24, 2009 – The Bears offense decided to explode tonight, lead by scoring machine Tasmin Gattling. Gattling finished with 26 points to go with 3 rebounds and a career high 7 steals. “I felt pretty good tonight. I got into a good rhythm early and everyone else just fed off of it” said Gattling after the game. Will Acker (17 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block) picked up another double-double with his best performance of the season. D’Jamal Barley contributed 15 points off the bench. “Everyone played really well tonight” said Coach Erickson after the game “but I was very impressed with Ronnie (Proffitt). He has embraced his roll as the point guard. I couldn’t be happier with him” said Coach Erickson. Proffitt spread the ball around tonight, finishing with 14 points and 9 assists. The Bears are now 15-3 (5-0) this season. They will play their next game at home against Southeast Louisiana.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another Dominating Win For UCA
UCA – 87 vs. Southeast Louisiana – 63
January 31, 2009 – “We are a tough team to beat at home. When we start to pull away from a team, the crowd goes nuts and that just makes the guys want to play harder” said Coach Erickson after the victory. Despite Will Acker’s mediocre 8 point, 8 rebound, 2 block performance, everyone played well. Tasmin Gattling finished with 23 points, 6 steals, and 2 assists. Ronnie Proffitt had 13 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Shaddean Danley (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block) and Kenny Whitted (10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists) rounded out the Bears’ starters. Keith Collison gave a solid 12 point contribution off of the bench. “It’s great when everyone feeds off of one another” said Coach Erickson of his team. Comments: The Bears are playing some great team basketball at this point of the season. They have a nice resume with wins over Wyoming and Oklahoma. They also won the Windy City Invitational Tournament’s Group A bracket. They are undefeated so far in Southland Conference play and they look like the favorite to repeat as regular season and conference championships. Tasmin Gattling and Will Acker are both having great sophomore seasons. Kenny Whitted, Ronnie Proffitt, and Shaddean Danley have all integrated themselves well into the starting lineup and they are improving every game. If the Bears keep playing as well as they are now, they could run the table in the Southland Conference.

Eighth Straight Win For The Bears

Tasmin Gattling (18 points, 2 assists, 3 steals), Kenny Whitted (17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block), and Will Acker (10 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block) led the charge tonight, getting the Bears the 10 point victory. “We played great again tonight. Taz and Will were on as usual and Kenny really stepped up big. He is really improving his overall game” said Coach Erickson after the game. Ronnie Proffitt and Shaddean Danley also contributed 9 points each to the effort. The win improves the Bears record to 17-3 (7-0). The Bears will be looking to get career win number 50 for Coach Erickson when they play UTSA in Conway.

Erickson Gets Number 50
UCA – 69 vs. UTSA – 47
February 7, 2009 – The University of Central Arkansas Bears absolutely dominated the Roadrunners on both sides of the ball to grab their ninth win in-a-row tonight. The win also gives Coach Erickson his 50th career win in just his third year as head coach. “It feels great to get to fifty wins so quickly, especially after struggling in my first year just to get eight” said Coach Erickson after the game. As far as the action on the court, freshman forward Kenny Whitted tied his career high for points finishing with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 block. Sophomores Tasmin Gattling (16 points, 5 steals) and Will Acker (12 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block) also contributed to the win. The Bears are now 18-3 (8-0) this season. UCA plays their next game at home against McNeese State.

Gattling Helps Bears ‘Steal’ Tenth Straight Win
UCA – 83 vs. McNeese State – 72
February 12, 2009 – The Bears are putting together a season to remember as they tallied their tenth consecutive win with tonight’s victory over McNeese State. Bears’ superstar Tasmin Gattling quite literally stole the show tonight finishing with 24 points, 3 assists, and a career high and team record 9 steals. “Taz has become a ball hawk this year” said Coach Erickson after the game, “It just adds a whole other aspect to his game”. Kenny Whitted also impress Bears fans tonight, scoring 17 points in his third straight game to go with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Will Acker (10 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block) and Ronnie Proffitt (10 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals) both gave solid performances. Clyde Feist seems to have found his stroke off the bench, contributing 11 points tonight. UCA now has a 19-3 (9-0) record. The Bears are at home for their next match-up against Stephen F. Austin.

Gattling Struggles, But Bears Prevail
UCA – 81 vs. Stephen F. Austin – 70
February 14, 2009 – Things were not looking good for UCA in the first half, as Tasmin Gattling struggled with his shooting. Gattling went just 1 for 8 from long range in the first half and finished with only 12 points and 4 steals. Luckily for the Bears, freshman Kenny Whitted decided tonight would be a good night for a breakout performance. Whitted (20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 1 block) played like a man possessed. Whitted was flying all over the floor, picking off passes, swatting shots, and ripping rebounds. “That is what happens on great teams” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference, “when someone has a down night, someone else steps up. Kenny was the one who stepped up tonight”. The victory gives the Bears their eleventh consecutive win and their twentieth win of the season. Their record stands at 20-3 (10-0). They will play their next game on the road against Northwestern State.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UCA Gets Twelve In-A-Row
UCA – 87 @ Northwestern State – 78
February 19, 2009 – Many Bears fans were wondering how Tasmin Gattling would respond coming off of one of his worst shooting performances in his career. “Gattling Gun” as he is known by the fans, dispelled all fears tonight finishing the game with 27 points and 2 steals. “I was just saving up the points for tonight” joked Gattling after the game. “It was good to see Taz knock some shots down. He isn’t a guy who will get into a serious slump” said Coach Erickson after the game. Kenny Whitted is quickly becoming a force for the Bears on both sides of the court finishing tonight with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Will Acker struggled offensively, but still played well overall coming in with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 block. The win pushes the Bears to an impressive 21-3 (11-0). UCA’s next match-up is at home against Nicholls State.

Bears Pummel Colonials
UCA – 88 vs. Nicholls State – 55
February 21, 2009 – The Colonials of Nicholls State had to have been discouraged when they looked at the following statistic: Nicholls State: 55 – Gattling & Whitted: 51. Tasmin Gattling (31 points) and Kenny Whitted (20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks) were only outscored by the entire Nicholls State team by 4 points. “Kenny and Taz put on a clinic today” said Coach Erickson after the game. “When Taz hit a three from NBA range with a man in his face, I had a feeling it was over”. Big man Will Acker impressed tonight finishing with 12 points, 7 boards, and 2 blocks. The thirteenth consecutive victory gives the Bears a 22-3 (12-0) record. Their next game is on the road against last year’s Southland Conference Tournament finals opponent Lamar University.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cardinals Become Another Victim Of Bears’ Run
UCA – 79 @ Lamar – 57
February 26, 2009 – Last season, this match-up would have been a showdown between the Southland Conference elite. These two schools battled all the way into overtime in what is considered as the best game in the history of the Southland Conference Tournament. Due to the loss of the mostly senior starting line-up however, the Cardinals are not the squad they were a year ago. “We looked good tonight, but Lamar did not play their best game” said Coach Erickson after the game. Tasmin Gattling followed up his 31 point night with a 24 point, 2 rebound, 2 assist, and 9 steal performance. Kenny Whitted also played strong, finishing with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. Will Acker picked up his 30th career double-double with his 16 point, 10 rebound, and 2 block night. The Bears are now 23-3 (13-0) record. They will play their next game away against Southeast Louisiana.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lions and Bears! Oh My!
UCA – 77 @ Southeast Louisiana – 68
February 28, 2009 – The Bears thrashing of the Southland Conference continued in tonight’s game against the Lions of Southeast Louisiana. Tasmin Gattling took the game over early and finished with 24 points, 2 rebounds 3 assists, and 3 steals. Kenny Whitted had another solid performance, pilling up 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Will Acker just missed out on a double-double tonight. He had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 1 block. “We are playing some great basketball right now and if we keep this up, we will be very tough to beat” said Coach Erickson. The Bears match last year’s win total with the victory tonight and their record stands at 24-3 (14-0). The Bears will hold Senior Night ceremonies in their final home game of the season against Sam Houston State.

Nearly ‘Seniorless’ Bears Get Senior Night Victory
UCA – 84 vs. Sam Houston State – 74
March 5, 2009 – The Senior Night festivities were not dampened, despite the fact that the only graduating senior on the squad was forward Tavon Flowers, who joined the team last year as a JuCo transfer. “Playing for Coach Erickson has been a great experience. I’m very happy that I decided to play for UCA” said Flowers (4 points, 2 rebounds) during the pre-game ceremonies. “I’m sad to see Tavon go” said Coach Erickson in his post game press conference “but the fact that so many of our guys are underclassmen is great”. Those underclassmen played terrifically tonight. Tasmin Gattling finished with 27 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. Kenny Whitted matched his career high for points with his 20 point, 9 rebound, 3 assist and 3 steal performance. Will Acker (16 points, 8 boards) and Ronnie Proffitt (11 points, 4 assists, 7 steals) also gave a solid contribution. The win also clinches the Southland Conference Regular Season Championship for UCA for the second straight year. “The guys are happy about it, but they want more than just that” said Coach Erickson. The Bears are standing at a new single season record 25-3 (15-0). The only thing standing between UCA and Southland Conference perfection are the Roadrunners of UTSA.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Southland Perfection!
UCA – 86 @ UTSA – 73
March 7, 2009 – They were partying in Conway tonight as the Bears capped off their perfect Southland Conference Regular Season with a win over UTSA. This was an amazing accomplishment. The Bears have not lost a game since the end of December, when they lost in overtime to Wyoming. “This has been an incredible season” said Coach Erickson after the game “but it’s far from over as far as we are concerned. Anything less than a Southland Conference Tournament Championship is a failure in our eyes”. Tasmin Gattling was gunning the three tonight, finishing with 27 points, 2 assists, and 5 steals. Kenny Whitted filled up the stats once again, pilling up 16 points 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Will Acker (16 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Ronnie Proffitt (14 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) also stepped up to help UCA grab the victory. The Bears finish the regular season with a stunning 26-3 (16-0) record. They now await the final official Southland Conference Standings to see who they will play in the Southland Conference Tournament.

Wow great run man. I love Gattling Gun. Great name haha. Yeah I was the one who told Coach Bailey to change that name =D. If I were you I wouldn't want to change his name to a more lithuanian sound, cause those names are impossible to spell. I'm lithuanian and I can't even spell any Lithuanian names
