The UMES mens basketball program has announced the hiring of Dave Dickerson a former assistant from the University of Toledo mens basketball program. He is a very young and charismatic coach who can recruit with the best of them. He found diamons in the rough for Toledo such as Keith Tripplet, Sammy Villegas, and Justin Ingram and he plans to do the same for the UMES program. He is taking over a program that went just 7-22 (4-14) and tied for last place in the MEAC with Morgan State. He plans to instill a hard-working attitude and a team that will have many more successes than failures. He has a team full of 4 seniors, 1 junior, 4 sophomores, and 2 freshman. Here is a little taste of what their team should look like this year.
Primary Defense: man to man
Press: 2-2-1 (after basket)
Offense: Motion with a little twist of the Mempis run 'n' gun style
Roster:
Garry Pleick #1/Senior/50 overall/SF 6'7" 215
Aldrin Hall #3/senior/62 overall/ SG 6'0" 158
DeAngelo Coles #5/Sophomore/57 overall/PG 6'2" 200
Jeremiah Caskill #10/sophomore/62 overall/PG 6'0" 170
Dwight Mackinson #15/Freshman/53 overall/ SG 6'4" 200
Kevin Withers #21/Senior/52 overall/PF 6'5" 215
Taverius Boythe #24/Freshman/53 overall/PF 6'7" 215
Truman Buchanan #31/Sophomore/54 overall/PF 6'10" 215
Wilbur Fischer #33/Junior/56 overall/PF 6'7" 210
Kale Bosley #44/Senior/59 overall/SF 6'5" 205
Antwi Zimmerman #45/sophomore/54overall/PF 6'9" 195
Obviously I will have major troubles inside, but my guards look serviceable and we will have to ride them to victory each and every game.
***Updates on the midnight madness and recruiting will be coming up.

I am very exhausted as I played almost 8 hours of basketball today so I started my Midnight Madness then just simulated it. The final was 63-58 the starters won.
Recruiting:
Jorgey Dickey 6'5" 204/4*
Dickey is an Allentown, PA product who is currently balling up at Notre Dame prep academy to get his grades in order. Although he looks out of our reach we are still trying for him in hopes of him possibly landing in our hands. He would bring immeadiate help in the scoring department. He is quite possibly the best shooter in America. Rutgers and Drexel are his two leaders.
Randall Ager 6'5" 219/3*
A pretty nice wing player from Philly, he is a very good rebounder and is more of a slasher at this point. Would help the run 'n' gun part of our offense immeadiately.
Brendan Riggs 6'1" 183/2*
A combo guard from Philly and teammate of Ager. He has good potential because of his athleticism. Can also stroke it.
Junior Feeney 6'8" 216/2*
A finesse forward with a decent skill set but is way too soft at this point. He brings much needed heigth to our team which is why we are recruiting him. If he ever decides to get aggressive he has 3 star/low 4 star potential.
Ralfeal Calvert 6'11" 225/2*
Big body who loves to mix it up inside. Solid rebounder with an improving offensive game. Coach Dickerson thinks he has big time potential if he refines his post game.
Owen Waller 6'9" 215/2*
Another big body who is all finesse. He makes Feeney look like a Tyler Hansbrough type. He can score and a post scoring threat is what we need.
****Those are the seniors I am recruiting for my 6 scholarship openings. I have one schollie for next years class and I have two potential candidates for that spot at the moment.
Laurence Wells 5'11" 162/3*
Point Guard from Puerto Rico via England. Extremely Quick and has high-major skill but lacks high major size and athleticism. Could be the floor general to run coach Dickersons complex system.
Tony Zahn 6'4" 200/3*
This SG can run and jump with anybody and if his skill ever catches up he will be a high-major prospect.

Well I accidently set it to 5 minute halves and thats how I played the Maryland Game.
UMES almost pulls absolute stunner against in-state power
Maryland started out absolutely on fire and looked like they were going to blow out the Hawks. But then a switch to a 2-3 matchup zone and absolutely cold outside shooting for the Terrapins closed the gap in a game that went down to the wire. UMES was on fire from the field shooting 11-24 from the field (1-4 from 3 point range). But in the end it wasn't enough to top Maryland. "We just played absolutely lights out from the start and it will be impossible for us to replicate this performance on a regular basis," stated coach Dickerson. Maryland was led by senior Mike Jones who scored 11 points and was unstoppable early on until the matchup zone kept the ball out of his hands completely. UMES was led by sophomore Truman Buchanan who scored 8 points (many off of offensive boards), grabbed 5 boards, and blocked 2 shots. "He did a nice job and was the reason this game was even close," said Dickerson "if we can get that effort out of him consistently this team is going to contend for a MEAC title and possible NCAA tourney berth." UMES will come home and play Wagner November 18th.
