Press Release
April 6, 2011
Earlier today, Citadel Athletic Director Les Robinson announced that Cecil Brown would succeed Pat Dennis as head coach of the Citadel men's basketball team. Brown, who recently ended his 4-year tenure as a player for Coach William Bailey at Morehead State after graduating, said that he chose coaching in Charleston over a try-out offer from close friend and former teammate Vitor Hipsher with the Melbourne Tigers of the NBL. "The oppurtunity to continue playing professional basketball was tempting, but it would pain me more to leave the states. Besides, all of the time spent being Coach Bailey's back-up point guard is starting to pay off," Coach Brown explained with a smile. Brown, who is easily the youngest basketball coach in Bulldog history at the age of 25, inherits a senior-laden team lacking in size. During his time backing up the point at Morehead State, Coach Brown averaged 1.0 ppg, 1.5 apg, and 3.1 spg.
