because it wouldn't work with the legends. You draft your amazing team and try to win the big game then you draft a new team and try to repeat with different legends. There is no need for a franchise!!!
I new there was a reason for them leaving it out but some guys just couldn't think outside the box!! LOL
I can't wait to actually draft my legends!

i agree with prince..i mean im excited about this game and all the legends but i would probably get bored just making a new team everytime i finish a season. i hope theres other game modes besides that, exhibition, and online play but if not i can live with it.

i didnt see any legends in those gameplay screenshots...so maybe they werent real?!?
2k usually gets faces spot on, i'd know if i saw Jerry Rice.
maybe the single player franchise replacement will be a focus on tournaments of these legends teams. so there may not be drafting, but there might be trading and using the same squad ,tournament after tournament?
that said, 2k will give me a reason to be excited when great players retire..BRET FAVRE!!!

obviously I haven't played the game but I'm betting on gameplay that is just unbelievable with everything from late hits to brutal face masks to Butkus slamming the qb in the turf. Everything that really happens in an NFL game but the NFL won't allow it in a video game. I think this game will make me and everyone else who plays NCCA & Madden wish those games played like this when we are done playing them. I think we will say "wow, this game is really missing the feel of true football after playing APF 2k8" that is my guess.

there will always be complaints for videogames. no matter how good this game is there will be complaints for it so if u dont like it just dont listen.
i think we are all excited about the game and excited to play as the legends. but i agree with prince when he says it might get boring after awhile. basically is there going to be any replay value? and i know people are goin to say..first you complain about no franchise/offline mode, then they tell you about "season mode"(for lack of better name) and u still want more. im not saying that it wont be fun but i just dont know if i could play season after season with a new team everytime. i like to use the same team because its my team then draft new players when my current team gets old. maybe theres more to the mode, if not i can live it.
by the way where did u read about drafting a new team every season because i dont see it.

I agree with prince. Franchise and 1-Season Mode are two different things that will definately affect my playing time. I do want the best gameplay, but I want a purpose when playing the game. Like the Master League in the Winning Eleven series. Playing season-mode is crap in that game while playing the Master League is hella fun

i hope we dont need to redraft every season. i hope stats can carry over and i can use the same squad again if i dont win the championship the first time. like i said, i would love to make trades, like if I dont win with Barry this season i can trade my Rice to get a better legendary DB for defense next season.
..it'll be like franchise, but not. no aging, no definite years. no rookie drafts. Just tournament after tournament trying to get the APF championship with your squad.
i hope thats what they meant by "no franchise"...i hope. If its AT LEAST that way, my excitement for the game wil go up again

If they are legends that used to be players. players on a team. Yeah they can have a franchise mode.

And who do you draft? Do these players stay in their prime throughout? Never retire?

there is just no replay value without Franchise mode.
The game will be cool for a couple of days, then after you have played with all your favorite players, it will get boring.

I can see why a franchise wouldn't work, that doesn't mean I don't still want it in the game.

April 26th, 2007, 06:08 AM
Ok already. Franchise would still work, and it doesn't even have to be called franchise. If player acquisition looked like the scouting in the college hoops game that would be fun too. No FA, fine, add scouting and recruiting and players agree to a certain number of seasons with your team. That would work.
I still have serious doubts about a game that doesn't allow players to improve or decline. I used to player Super Tecmo Bowl and it was very fun, but the players never got better or worse, and once you had them, you had them. If you built a great team, you always had one. No management challenge there.
Using legends will be fun, but I am always wary of novelty items. Sanders, Singletary etc. will be a nice gag gift, but at the end of the day they will become average players when playing against one another...like Trung Canidate versus Carlos Emmons. There has to be flex and growth and a progressive game play mode or the game will certainly lose a good deal of replay value.
That said, I will buy the game and play it. I will play against all the gimmicks and cheese heads on line. I will listen to everyone's bs about Moon and Rice, and "oh look what ***le Sayers can do." Then, when the excitement about the game dies down and I am one of twenty people still playing, I will turn it off and take it back to the store, hoping against hope that next year's game brings back the in-depth franchise style play that keeps the game alive.

One problem that you have is the lack of offensive linemen, especially guards. There are only enough for a few teams with no backups. You need 242 players to form 11, 22 man teams. With injuries in the game, you need backups, so will players be on multiple teams? I'm looking forward to more info. Looks great so far.

Well you did a great job of summing up my feelings on this whole fiasco. I just cracked my GI Mag last night and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the part of the interview where it's said that they are doing this for the hardcore fans. How can you be doing this for sim fans and there's no franchise mode to compete in? 2k has a great many fans that NEVER play online and appreciate the challenge that comes with building a team from the dregs of the leauge (nfl or generic) into a powerhouse, winning the Bowl, dealing with FA's, deciding whether to build thru the draft or FA's, etc.
Believe it or not I still play NCAA 2002 football regularly on my PS2. Why? Well it's fun to me and the fact that I can always bring in new players thru recruiting, change teams as a coach makes the replay value for this and any sports game insanely high. Can we really say that after we're tired of throwing bombs from Steve Deberg to Irving Fryar?
We all look at 2k5 with Rose colored glasses but its Franchise mode left alot to be desired. I always held out hope that once 2k figured out which direction it was going to go on as far as how this game would be marketed (Make no mistake this legends deal is ALL about sales and marketing) that it would utilize the power of next-gen and really knock our socks off with the new franchise mode. This announcement just really makes it hard to be that excited about this game coming out. It's like having a girlfriend that looks like america's next top model and is as smart as a brain surgeon but she has morning breath all day long. Of course you're not breaking up with her but it's hard to do backflips for that combo.

I agree for the most part. I will buy this game but I will also buy the madden game also because of the franchise and the drafting a new class of players and being able to make a dynasty out of a team then coaching a new team and doing all over again in 30 year franchise. Ill buy APF2k8 for the online play thats about it.

The thing about alot of sports games is that you become attached to your franchise team because you made it. You lose that chemistry if you just draft players after each season.

You guys just need to come to grips with the fact that there will be NO franchise mode. That's it. It's done. And I guarantee you that you will still buy the game with or without franchise mode. So stop crying about it.
2K Sports is not going to turn around now and say "Well, since so many people are threatening not to buy the game without franchise mode, we better put it in." Like the GI article said "Shut up and play".
So, while you may not shut up (since cry babies love to have something to cry about) I guarantee you'll be buying this game and playing it.

I'm still in wait and see mode, because we really do not know what they are coming out with.
Everyone comes out post early so they can say, "I told you so."
I do not mind Legends if it is an option of the game.
But I'm still buying the game.... PERIOD.
And because I'm spending my money I have every right as a consumer to applaud or complain.... PERIOD.
I'm giving 2ksports the benefit of the doubt.
I don't care about recreating the NFL.
I don't care about Franchise Mode.
Legend mode may be a problem because then you will have to deal with who isn't on that list for various people and rightfully so.
I think someone mentioned injuries and lack of players for depth so that will be interesting to see what the real plan is.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions.
I also wonder does 2ksports make some type of promise with the people it provides information to where they won't display the information on their own website.
I mean... come one... at the bottom of each article is go to 2ksports.com for more information and 2ksports.com doesn't even provide the information from the article at the very least.
That too me is not good and is not an attack on marketing or anything.
For me it just makes sense.

Im pretty sure this game isnt just all legends, Im pretty sure that they will still have generic players playing along side the legends.

Exactly. 2K is out to make money. This is nothing more than a glorified Tecmo Bowl. It is a ploy to attract those people who will buy BOTH Madden and APF. It is not a game that is attractive to the Madden hardcore, and will not be fun for long for the 2K hardcore.
If they wanted to please the diehard 2K fans they would have not included the legends, and would have included a franchise mode.
