Now I've been defending this game against the onslaught of the majority of you guys slamming it because of no franchise and now you guys cream yourselves because Legends will be used in the game as playable characters? I honestly would have assumed the boards would have went up in flames but, thankfully, I was wrong.
Still think my idea of Legends usage would have been better than actually playing as legend characters:
Yeah, I'm not fond of the Legends thing myself either. Really I'm not so fond of any added cost from using them just seems wasteful too me. Especially since I think they should be used only as coaches or teamowners or something. That would be a nice storyline though. The Legends of the NFL grew tired of the NFL and the way they seem to be changing the game. Sissyfying the QB position, turning the CB into a spectator rather than a defender among other things. These Legends decided to turn the game back into what it was when they played and created their own league. Investing their personal fortune into building teams and thus APF2K8

I would have liked that idea whole lot better. I might be the only one on these boards that is not excited to play this game. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the game-play and graphics will be nothing short of amazing. But, there's just an odd feeling playing and seeing Johnny Unitas throw to Jerry Rice.
I know I speak for the minority, but I just never have dug the idea of playing with legends in any game. Have it be Madden 01 on the PS1, or legends in the 2k games.
Personally, I think 2k either should get the NFL license back, or just get away from the NFL idea all together (legends included) I know they can't get the NFL license back for a few more years...that's not my point. The point is, either go all or nothing. I don't want anything in the middle (ex NFL legends) Which may still show they need the "NFL to rely" on.
I would like to think a fully customizable game would sell well with great game-play and have legends as additions if you wanted too.
Or maybe there is another side they haven't shown yet (I hope so) and the legends part is just a huge way to sell a game. And it IS a huge way to sell a football game.
I know a lot of people and my friends might love this game, and I want to like it too. But this does not get me excited at all.
I'd rather have Joe Johnson from California play quarterback for the Carolina Cats or something like that. Something that we can control and customize (not customize back to the NFL cause I know some people would want that) and take our teams online, or do a multi-season (ie. franchise) and do that. Because I love building my teams and trying to keep them on top or not.
But then again, I think it is STILL too early (for me anyway) to pass judgment on this game.
Maybe they will have a legends section and a generic section, that'd be alright then.
But if it's just legend players, online (which I'm not big into) and a one season thing, then I'm really 50/50 on this game. And I'm a HUGE 2k fan.
Another thing, with these legends on the game, would that make all the teams stacked? I know there probably won't be 11 legends on offense and defense, but still, the potential for stacked teams could be there. And I like things to be as realistic as possible, and to play a game fully of legends, it just doesn't do it for me.
And again, it's probably too early to pass judgment, but this doesn't make me more excited to play 2k football than I was a week ago.
Maybe it's just me...

I like how it is right now. ITs going to make Every team good. There will be no more (at least i hope) Patriots (who do everything right) against the randomsorryteam01 and only have people use a few select teams.
People are to quick to judge somethng they know NOTHING about. I dont know why people do this. i really dont.
I personally think they did it right. I cannot wait.
Edit for the 2nd post.......... THere is no way on gods green earth can 2k get the NFL rights. Do you think they tried? they did not want EA to buy it, but money talks and everything else gets left in the gutters. Again, there is not a damn thing 2k/VC can do to get the NFL rights back.

That's true, a lot of people are making judgments about the game before all the cards are out on the table. Both positive and negative. But I guess it's better to be positive than negative.
I have faith in 2k, and since we don't know any more than what we do know, I can't say 100% if I would get it or not. I will wait until everything is out there before I make my decision, and of course probably play it as well.
Or maybe I'm content with 2k not putting out a football game in the past few years and not being blown away and accepting the fact there is no real good football game out there.
I hope I'm wrong, I hope 2k has more up their sleeve than we all think, it is 2k after all,
but I'm not sitting here thinking "Wow, I can't wait to get my hands on this game..."

Well as of now I DO know that you will be able to use NFL legends as players in this game and I do know that it's an idea I don't really care much for but I'm willing to give it a shot. I just saw Deacon Jones is in the game. Gotta like that. Anybody see if Rosie is in the game?
EDIT: You know the more I'm thinking about this game the more I think I can really get into it. First though I'm going to check my old games and see how they do the legends and see what's up.
I was mentioning Deacon Jones earlier, if they don't have his head smack in the game I'm going to pitch a bi**h. I hope certain things are only allowed to certain players. Come on Strahan hurry up and retire so I can get both of you guys on opposite ends of that line.

It's not just you.
I'm more hardline on the - will there be or won't be a franchise - thing but i feel more or less like you do.
The Legends are great but at the same time i never cared much for playing as them, great feature to have but one i can take or leave.
If i had the option to use or not use the Legends i;d choose the setting to not use them, unless i wanted to show off the game to a couple of friends who may enjoy that aspect far more than i do.

THere is ging to be people that like the game, and there is going to be people that hate it. There is going to be people that hate some of the idea, and some people that really like it? see what i am getting at here? There is always going ot be people on both sides of the fence.
I am going to buy it the day its released, becuase i havent really been let down by any 2k sports games in a while. NBA2k7 i enjoyed, MLB2k7 i am currently playing and having a blast. The games are not perfect by any means, but either was NFL2K5 and i probably enjoyed that game more then i have any other football game.

See another thing this is opening itself up for is the old "Legend A" is better than "Legend B" so WTF is this? How can he get this off against him. No way Legend B can own Legend A like this. I'll still pick this game up but I see it more as a game me and my friends play locally with a few beers and smoking some cigs putting together squads and going at it.
I still think it's going to be heaven gameplay wise and that's' all that counts,,,,, AND WHAT'S WITH THE SONG!!?!?!? Come on man , didn't this thing come out in the Miami vice days or the Equalizer days or something.

I agree. I'd rather have 100% fictional players than any legend players.

I know for me, I'm not overly excitied with playing as legends.
I'm excited for 2k football, new presentaion, new gameplay and graphics.
But playing with a team that has Elway handing off to Payton doesn't appeal to me. I will play it and it might grow on me.
But I would have been more excited just to see generic players in there.
Maybe that will still be an option. But if not, oh well. I will still play on because I do like the players that are in it, but I don't like the idea of forming "all-star" Fantasy rosters.
It takes away from the realism to me a little. Like in NBA2k7, I hate playing in draft lgs, cause I hate seeing AI throw it to Lebron. I know thats not gonna happen and its hard to wrap my brain around that.
Thats the hang up with using real players, you have a mindset of how it should be.
In real life, it was hard to see Jordan in a Wizards uniform.
So, in conclusion, I'm ok with the idea but not thrilled. I'm a little let down at that, but can't help but be pumped at the new info, some of my favorite NFL players and the Headshots of the players.

With only 240+ legends, they can't fill teams with legends. A football roster will require 30-50 players, so the most teams that could be filled with legends would be 6-10. They will either have to fill in rosters with generic players (which I don't see happening) or they have to keep the number of teams to a minimum. Why not fill with generics? All the generics would have to be no-talent scrubs (so they don't show up the legends), and then players would ignore the scrubs and focus on legends.
I think the main reason we're not going to see Franchise modes is because there isn't enough depth in the rosters. If legends are going to be the focus of the game - which it apepars they are - then game modes will likely be limited.
Personally, I was hoping for a fully generic league filled with random players so I could play in Franchise modes and on-line leagues. I'm not going to come out and say whether this game will be good or not - I'm sure there will be a lot of fun things about it, and it's too early to say one way or the other - but the news that legends are the focus of the game does very little for me.

I think people are taking the legend thing to serious, it is obviously a way to market the game. I'm sure there will be generic players to go along with the legends, but they need some star power to sell this game (much like Lawrence Taylor in Blitz: The L) to the mainstream.
Also, I think the new rating system will make the legends more balanced. Ever player has strengths and weaknesses, so hopefully the new system will duplicate that more realistically.
I'm not too into the legends idea either, but I'm willing to go with it if their implemented well into the game.
