I was just looking thru the gameinformer magazine, the video interview, and just been reading thru these forums.....Do you think that holding out on information to long hurts 2k, or do you beleive that it helps the anticipation of the game and the build up.
I've seen alot on halo 3 and madden 08, and oher games, and i sit here wondering why wont 2K release any more information than they already have. Madden has new pictures up every few weeks, it kinda makes me feel what 2k is hiding ( if they are hiding something), but i just want to hear everyones opinions......

hurts......... since many don't really know about this game, they're not going to get interested unless they got some good information

I believe it hurts them. Madden will be fresh in everyones mind while they're giving out screen shots. But i also believe as soon as APF2k8 starts coming out with their advertising it will be a advertising competition, as long as they don't release information too late.

thats what i was thinking even tho im a big fan of 2k's sports games, the people who really love football are the ones who will buy this game, the other people are just worried about the names on the back of the jerseys, becasue thats all ea has is the NFL and ESPN

if they released this same info a yr ago i'd still be quite hyped for this and willing to give them more time to get more info out to us. BUT, this has gotten out of hand! The game is only 3 months away from launch and only like 4 photos, no videos and some boring info given out. Other games that have yet to launch (like 2008 ish) have more info out on it already than 2k8 does and it's becoming very VERY annoying to have to know this fact.

I think it really just depends on when they're releasing the game. 2K Sports PR is known to hit us with media in bulk, and normally within a month of the game or so.
However, I do think that they need to give us maybe one last tease of screenshots or perhaps a trailer before Madden or NCAA beats them with too much. We need a glimpse.

madden is gonna get their's either way guys. This game WILL NOT (and i say this as an avid* 2k, sega sports fan) outsell madden 08/ncaa08. There are ppl out there just like us who will go get madden just the same reason we'll go out and get this. I haven't even played the game and already wanted to preorder it. I've never preordered a game in my entire life and i wanted this...why? Because i have faith in 2k and the gaming engine it uses in all of it's games. Madden fans alike will feel the same way about their product and will go out and preorder even though they haven't even played the game or no of any of it's features. Are we hypnotized? No! I just prefer 2k over madden b/c it's just more fun all around.

well you as a customer like quality thats what its all about when the dust blows away it doesent really matter if it will outsell who cares about that? just because things sell more than the other does not make it good it means it basically sells more but quality will always overcome hype. sooner or later..... im for the customer these companies can fly for all i care i want to get quality when i pay $60 i dont want to hear that the programmers dont know what to do with the next gen technology because they sure do know how to charge $70 for it....quality vs. quanity. sooner or later customers are gonna look for it but which one will give it?

that's very true i think the fans would like a teaser video or at the least some screenshots at the end of may to reasure that this is going to be a very great game...although i do have a lot of trust in 2K because they make the greatest sports games.

2k no doubt will always have the quality but my comment was meant towards twsn88's commment about loose lips. Madden is not worried about 2k at the moment. They will still make the same as they made last year if not more.

they also have something to fall back on...2K however is going out on a limb and making this game for its fans and for hardcore football fans that dont care whose names are on the backs of jerzeys, or or what stadium to play in. they just want the best avalible football game, and if its good gameplay then you will get lost in it and wont even realize that its not the NFL, im glad that 2K is going the way they are and i think this is going to be the best game ever made. EVER MADE better than any tom clancy game or any of the halo games, even though halo is the god of games

well if it's all about gameplay with 2k...why add the sucky legend ploy to the game? I would've bought it regardless but i suppose "others" like the idea of being able to play with legends which is cool. Just hope it's good and i like i stated before...WE NEED MORE PICS/VIDS SOON

i dont mind that they arent saying much. i like that they are saying a little at a time instead of saying everything all at once. i do wish they would atleast release more screens and maybe a teaser video.

If this game is really coming out in August, this is a pretty poor showing.
I'm not convinced 2k is interested in actually making money or selling games.
It's hard to sell something no one has heard of. Honestly, how many people have really heard about this game?

very true man! Once we see the game (other than those *insert adjective* pics) we can help spread the word throughout the internet. Cost to 2k? nothing! Just free advertising by it's loyal fans. Atleast at the press event they coudl've surely showed off some pics but of course they said nothing and here we are a week later with nada.
btw, 2k sports to ea is like sparta was to the pertians in 300*. "Tonight... WE DINE ON MAAAADDEEEEENNNNNN!!!!"

I could be wrong, but has NCAA shown any videos yet ? And that game is definitely coming out in July. So to answer this question....NO...2k is not being too secretive. I know we're all starved and want to be fed with some info. But it's just not time yet. I know they should show some things because they need to get alot more people interested. But they are somewhat on schedule. And they just do things different then EA. 2k usually sends alot of stuff out right before the release. We'll get alot of info towards the end of May. So let's just wait. And just coz games like Halo, that are coming out in 2008, show footage, doesn't mean 2k8 should. It's totally different games with totally different standards. Football is a yearly thing. There's alot more that goes into a game such as Halo, therefore there is alot more to show. So don't compare different genres. We don't see pics or footage for NBA 2k9 do we ? So don't compare.

its the same way with every 2k game i can think of they dont do much to push the game till its released i mean they really dont have any comp. when it comes to the quality of their sports games and they know they wont outsale or even take away gamers from madden.
They have a solid fan base and will have people who are maybe sick and tired of playing the same game from madden for the last 4 years. This year is more of a test run to see how many people are really interested in the game.
Once again they know they wont and cant outsale madden just like they cant and wont outsale live. 2k sports game have allways attracted the more mature gamer not to say there isnt kida who play 2k but not nearly as many kids who play NBA live and madden.

2K should make exvception for APF 2K8 this game determines the state of their football franchise and i don't think they enough loyal fans to have this be a bust not a hit.

NCAA is a popular and proven series. You are comparing apples to oranges.
EA doesn't need to get the word out. They could do 0 marketing, release 0 screens and still sell tons of copies of their football games.
This is not the case for a football game from 2k without the NFL or NCAA license.

I agree a little but if you read between the lines on that nfl license agreement talk 2k can get the license back. On what is going to determine whether or not the NFL renews its agreement with EA in the future or if they will open discussions back up to other publishers… 2k Sports"I don't think we have a clear answer right now on what is going to determine it but if 2k Sports gives competition to ea even without the license maybe we need to restructure. Right now, if we were to evaluate what is going on, we're thrilled to death with the partnership we have with EA. We still have a couple of years left on the deal and we are going full steam ahead with them." now read between the lines slow. everything that is underline i added cause thats what it says between the lines to me.

AmericanLegend, read what I wrote. You pretty much just said what I said but in a different way. I wrote : "I know they (2k) should show some things because they need to get alot more people interested." and "They just do things different then EA."
Obviously I said that because of the reasons you just mentioned. But thanks for the reiterations. I know I'm comparing two different things. But at least I'm not comparing APF 2K8 to Halo 3. lol. Come on now . . .

Responding to the first post:
Yes 2K is being WAY too secretive so far. Now that Madden is releasing so much info and really starting to push the PR machine then 2K needs to start the information flow.
We know that there WON'T be a franchise mode. To me that doesn't sound too bad if there is something else that will fill the void. Is the season mode going to change every year? Can you keep the same teams and play a new season?
We know that there are going to be Customization but we don't know how much. It sounds like a lot but we don't know how much. You can only customize a player so.
They have said that you CAN'T recreate the NFL. Does that mean that there are less than 32 teams or more. Are the names just illegal to use?
We know that Madden is bringing back all the modes that were left off 07 and more. They have hundreds of more animations and some rumors are saying that they are having a create a play mode.
Now granted I haven't bought a Madden game since 03' but right now they don't look too bad because I at least know WHAT is coming.
2K needs to start letting the cats out of the bags.

They have been putting out a lot of info lately, but not very much in gameplay terms.I think it is hurting them a little at this point...I hope they have a surprise early release planned along with a good marketing campaign.....I'm a little disturbed by the lack of attention over at Gamespot...they seem to write 4 EA articles for every 2k article...if you look at their 'top ten' sports games today, you will notice that it is the BIGS sitting at #1, along with 4 or 5 EA Titles...AP2k8 isn't even in the top ten...this makes me wonder about the interest......................HOWEVER..the feedback from Football fans is OVERWHELMINGLY positive towards 2k and quite negative for Madden in ALL Football forums over there....DEFINITELY a good sign:D

but with them being secretive, it has everyone buzzing with ideas and wondering what it will be like.

i think it's fun to wonder what the game will be like, but on the other end you cant wonder to much and be let down on what you wanted instead of what your getting. I just think that they should start there campaign more public in the next month and really sell this game to casual football fans. I mean more than half of football gaming fans are casual gamers rather than hardcore gamers like here at 2K.......

I guess the question I have is why should they expose all of their info now, in May? People need to just be a little more patient and let TT/VC do their thing. Madden and NCAA will finally, we think, have some major changes in it, but don't think for a second that APF didn't have something to do with it. Think about it. For the last 2 years has talked about all the changes, blah, blah, blah. But all of a sudden, TT announces APF (and by the way, EA didn't just find out about APF when Greg Thomas made the annoucement), and EA is now trying to do full gang tackling, etc. This goes to show EA really was resting on it's laurels because it didn't have any comp. But again, I have no problem with the way VC's releasing it's info.

when games delay info and play test..it NEVER something good. it sometimes means that they want people to use their imaginations to get hyped up and when the game releases a bunch of people buy it without knowing much about a crappy product.
think about, if it released tomorrow more than half of the people here will buy it without knowing jack about quality

Here is a little secret.
If there is a significant price drop in APF 2K8 then something is up.
Otherwise all this speculation is just that and really needs to stop.
Would I like more information? Yes!
But, just because their marketing doesn't fit my desire or need for information doesn't mean something bad about the company. It is May and they have time to release information.
Again, more information will start to surface such as game play and video.
