50% of the guys on the legends list i dont even recognize. It's no fun for me playing with some old dude (in his prime as depicted in APF 2K8) running around the field making plays like players today (real nfl). They weren't as fast, tough, or near as strong as the current nfl players (with the exception of few). **** Butkus!? I mean yeah i've heard he was one of the greatest of all time but i dont want to use him. I'd rather use some imaginary player with the same attributes than ****, personally.

That's why consumers having a choice in their purchases is such a beautiful thing. I personally like the idea of playing with some legends of the past. Walter Payton, Eric Dickerson, or Joe Montana to name a few.

I hope there's a franchise mode with fictional players. I really enjoy playing multiple seasons and having the possibility to mold my team with a pool of strangers would be awesome. If they put this in, it's a lock for me - I will be playing 24/7

Yeah they use Steriods now right?
You do make some nice points.
I was watching some old games on film and you see a guy running downfield AHEAD of the runner as if he was afraid to make a tackle.
Much of the tackling techniques were different as well.
The game was different. Plays, Schemes, Game Plans, etc...
This is why I don't like comparing THEN with NOW because it was a different time and different game. I also don't care for position kings either. Again, different time and different game when they played.
Anyway...
I too would prefer generic and make the LEGENDS an option to play with.
What I like about generic is you won't have to deal with the comparison complaints that will erupt once the game is played. I guarantee this will happen.
But I'm going to play it with an open mind and see if I enjoy it.

I see this game is for long time fan of football and those who follow football history. The thing that keeps me playing won't be the legends it will be the gameplay. That's what game are all about gameplay. The way I see it the legends sweeten the pot so to speak.

i also agree.
also, Legends are more for the hype, press and publicity it couldn't have garnered otherwise.
and don't forget the casual fans who need SOMETHING to draw their attention.

I might agree with you on the fast part but the toughness well tough is tough regardless of any era. Toughness is more a mental state than a state of physicalness.

I don't mind the legends aspect as long as it's balanced. I don't games with scores in the 50s. And don't say that all I need is Butkis and Lott. In 1984 the 49ers had FOUR DB pro-bowlers. Lott was amazing but it's a team effort.
If you can have the option of 1-2 legends per team. That would be great. If each team has 12-15 that might be too many.

There should be more than 2...but not too many...
