ne1 have tips on stealing the ball? I keep getting called for the reaching in foul no matter when I try to steal the ball. I am playing on the level its starts at on a career legacy with bethune cooking (I think) thats it. I did not change ne of the sliders so my vip goals would take. Also can you change sliders and still get the vip goals to take. Like adjusting the slider for stealing success, would that make it so my vip goal wouldn't recognize the numbers steals. Thanks for ne suggestions.

PS: I have the PS3 version

I have the PS2 version, so my tips may not apply.

There are several methods to stealing the ball that work for me:

1) Ripping

2) Passing Lane

3) Double-Team/Force Wild Pass

4) Be Tall

1) Ripping:

The ripping method is when you D-up the player like Allen Iverson, and just poke the
ball away. The best way to do this is to see which hand the player is dribbling the ball with,
and push the right analog stick towards that direction to steal the ball.

What's this mean? It means that if your opponent has the ball in his left hand, then you
want to push the right analog stick right, to use your player's right hand to go for the
ball in your opponent's left hand. Does this make sense? Please keep in mind that your
player's steal attempt hand should mirror-image your opponent's dribbling hand.

Great chances to rip are when the player first receives the ball, and hasn't had a chance
to start dribbling around and/or move the ball to a different hand. One of the best
chances to rip is when the ball goes down to a low post player, and you can bring
down a guard/forward with a high steal rating to sneak up and steal the ball away while
the big man is concerned with trying to post up against your own big man. Since big men
are so notorious for bad handles, this is a great steal opportunity, since they will be trying
to keep the ball away from the primary player that is already defending them, you
give them little room for dribbling error.

2) Passing Lane:

The passing lane method is when you anticipate where the pass is going, and you go
there before the pass gets there, usually just-in-time, to poke the ball away and start
the fast break. This method relies on recognizing what the offense is trying to do, and
positioning your player in a good position to be between the player passing the ball, and
the player receiving the ball. A great chance to attempt this is when the point guard has
swung the ball to the wing. Just position your player close to where the wing player passes
the ball back to the point guard, and rip off the ball when it is passed back. This takes
practice, but you will quickly develop a knack for it. As you recognize more plays
the offense is trying to run, you will see more opportunities to jump in front and
break up the pass. It is much safer to attempt this maneuver when they are attempting
to pass the ball back up to the PG, than when the ball is being passed to the post. Why?
Well, if you miss when they pass it back to the PG, he is still far from the basket. If
you miss when they pass in to the post, you probably will give up a dunk.

3) Double Team/Force Wild Pass:

The double team/force wild pass method is awesome for forcing steals. This method
is best utilized from a zone defense such as the 2-3 or the 1-1-3, or the 1-3-1, but you
can decide for yourself whichever zone works best for your technique. What you
basically do is bring up another defender, and press the double-team button. This
will cause the offensive player to have to make a pass to someone else. If the
player that you double-team is a poor passer, then it is highly likely that they will pass
the ball wildly, and one of your CPU defenders can get an easy steal.

4) Be Tall:

The be tall method is simple: The taller your defender is, the easier it is to implement
the "Passing Lane" and "Double Team" methods of stealing the ball. It is SIGNIFICANTLY
harder to pass the ball around a taller player, so if you come up for the double team,
or jump the passing lane with a bigger player, you have a much higher chance for
success. Taller players are so effective at double teams, that you can often double-team
a player, and force them to pass, and they will put the ball right into the hands of your
big player, in their efforts to pass the ball around him.

I hope that these tips help you, have a nice day!

Passing lanes and double teaming works best for me. Just hope you have some tall players so they can snag those lob passes

First off, thanks for taking the time to answer the question. Much thanks. The passing lane and double team ones is how I would get some steals. But the ripping one I have tried yet and I will try it. Thanks again!!!!

Just bump them on ps3 and eventually the ball will squeeze loose. Also the computer passes to the same people in certain situations, so it's easy to bait them into stealing. Keep in mind, if you really wanna exploit, that you can trap the point guard then fade back to the point guard after he passes it and steal it every time. 99% of the time the other guy will try to force a pass to the point guard.

As for actual reach stealing it's hard. Mostly luck. I always try to swipe when I am far back so that my hand would just catch the ball if they were moving at me. Also I've had success running from behind a pg with my pg and poking the ball free with a lunging swipe.
