So I’m eastern Illinois in my first year. I have a decent record, and head my conference at 12-6. what are the chances of me landing a 5 star overseas center who has drawn interest from other schools, but has only been offered a scholarship from me? I’m gonna pursue him hard, and I’m already pursuing a local 3 star PG. Although I’m at 96% with the PG, there’s two other schools who are at 100% but haven’t offered him a scholarship while I have. Am I going to be disappointed?

Yes you wll be disappointed on both. If those schools at 100% are localish then hte 3 star will go for them. And if this is like your first year then you have no chance in landing a 5* recruit. What you should do is aim for 3* recruits from overseas...in your first year

well jabbar this is Coach sanders of Indiana if you check my legacy post you will see how to recruit player successfully. To answer your question i would maybe pull out of recruiting the 3* PG if he is at 100% for two other schools and only 96% ofr yours. Then i would focus more on the overseas big men.You have a better chance of signing him than the PG.Overseas players usually will go to a small school.Unless they are not being recruited by one. So,just stick with him.If you don't have anyother players lined up that you didn't offer a scholarship then keep the offer on the table for the PG,but if you have someone esle that you are either 1 or 2 on their list offer them that scholarship.I bring in at least two All-Americans per year.

actually the 3* is a local for me and not the others, i'm at 96% and its still jan, i'm building up to the 100% and i'm the only one who offered a scholarship. I mean all other recruits have a below 50% interest :S. I've aimed at a lot of 3*s though. Btw, how much can I develop my players if I am C across the board. How do my ratings as a coach improve. Do I get points at the end of the season and I allocate them or does it happen automatically?

so you're saying i have a better chance at a 5* overseas player over a local 3* player? This is my first year btw.

in a nut shell yeah.I would keep going at them, but i would vest more time into recruiting the 5* player.see overseas players start there interest level for your school at about 50% and then it just goes up from there. You should also start to recruit some Jr's so they will be ready to sign in the early signing period your next yr.

Yes in the first two yrs aim for 3*'s then move to fours. Anyways the pg if not offered before the afterseason by any other team will sign with you. And if this 5* player has any power teams scouting him then you don't have a chance even tho scar says you do. The overseas player always wait to the last week then usually the power teams sky rocket in their percent. But just keep him on your target list.
And yes its a very good idea to target some jrs. In state recruits are always the best to aim for escpecially if your in a state with alot of recruits. I coached at a small texas school and made it my goal to only recruit teams from the state and worked very well from me starting at a 69 ovr moving to a 90 ovr in about 6 yrs. Once the jrs. If they are 3*'s hit about 80% then you have a pretty good chance of signing them in the next year but make sure to call every week.

Jabbar: There is a "recruiting strategies" thread. There is some excellent information in that thread. If you are #1 on that five star world recruit's list, then you have a legitimate
chance at signing him. I did a complete two seasons of simming, and had a .500 record,
and I had the #21 recruiting class in season one, and went like 19-6 and had #12
recruiting class in season two.
How did I get such high rankings at lowly UC Riverside? By going after 4 and 5-star
World recruits, almost exclusively. (The first season was horrible, as I missed out on
even municipal recruits, so I was like "forget it" just give me World and JUCOs, LOL, as
you have better chances with those than the other seniors.)
Also, do start recruiting and targeting players prior to their senior season, as it helps
you so much on recruiting.
Please, just look at the recruiting strategies thread, as it can help your recruiting
immensely.
Hope this helps, and have a nice day!

Just to give a different take on recruiting, I don't go after very many world recruits. I signed a 2* center from Cameroon my first year at WIU and that's all. I've targeted a couple others along the way, but find I have more success going after the local guys (and that seems more realistic to me as well).
At TCU, I have little trouble signing 5 and 4 stars guys (not just from Texas).
I also have a 2nd legacy coach at College of Charleston. Recruiting there is not as easy. I've just simmed the games and had done little to improve the coaching stats. however, in the first year there, I signed 6 players (mix of 3 and 2 stars). Two of these guys started for the team right away. In the new season, I have a 4 star and two 3 star guys at 100% (key was targeting them last year and working my way their interest).
I will usually look at the JR class and target a couple 4 star/5 star who have the most interest in my program (ie best player on the board - that I have a chance of getting). Then then more effort into my immediate needs - positions I need to replenish or fill. I scout and go after the best players I can get whether is a 2 or 3 star (sometimes, the scout will uncover that hidden gem -- at TCU, my 3 star PG Hubbard has better stats than 4 and 5 star players I recruited later. He was a great find!!). Point is - don't just look at the # of stars. Look at the stats, focus on the key stats for the position he will play (example: shooting may be more important than leaping for a point guard) and a lot depends on your style of play too.

Well I ended up getting one recruit and two walk-ons in my first year. The recruit was a 3 star local player who was 6’7 SF. He’s so slow that I ended up having him play PF. However I simmed through the season and by some miracle of God, My team made it to the national championship only to lose in the Finals against Alabama. In my second year I aimed at a bunch of three star World wide PFs, Cs and SFs and one local JUCO FR who was a PF as well as local PGs. I ended up recruiting two PGs, 2 centers, the JUCO PF and one SF. The tallest player on the team before was 6’8.
Now my line up is as follows:
PG (Drake SR 5’11, Covington FR 6’0, Hendriks FR 6’1)
SG (Keeler 6’4 JR)
SF (Grafs FR 6’9, Benson SR 6’7, Fischer SR 6’5)
PF (Dukes JR 6’9, Cleaves SO 6’11, Cooley JR 6’8)
C (Hipsher FR 6’11, Aldridge FR 6’10)
Honestly, in the lowly Ohio Valley, I’m pounding the other teams by a minimum of 15 points. My team is not ranked yet however in terms of Defense, which is the core concentration of practice, my guys are killing it. If anyone drives into the lane 8 times out of 10 it’s a block party. I know in terms of ratings they’re not all that great, but for some reason Keeler (rating of 69) seems to be able to score at will. When I recruited all those players I started playing the games like I did the first season rather than simming. It helps having tall players. Keeler seems to be unbelievably fast, and Covington looks promising as he can play either guard position and can also drain it from the 3 point line. My low post scoring consist only of tip ins unless its Grafs driving and dunking. But Oh well, I guess that’s what I get for having a team that consists of some local talent and the Nigerian national youth team. Now is it possible for me to recruit 5 star recruits in the next 3 or 4 years to this lowly school if I keep improving. Because as you can see I have a pretty decent core and I don’t want to leave my recruits as I do grow attached to them and I like to see the Chemistry sore.
Also after 10 years, at the same school with 3 or 4 NCs, I can possibly advance to a mid major or a big school. My aim is to coach UIC, as I did graduate from there. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for all your help and advice, I had a kick *** recruiting class even though they were all three stars.

Go after Word Recruits, and you can even pull in 5-stars. Interest doesn't matter as much,
as you will more than likely be the only school after the player (especially if they are
4-stars or less.)
If you just want perennial dominance, you're pretty safe in your lowly conference.
Hope this helps! Have a nice day!
