View Full Version : Reasons why 2K is quiet.

1. As posted here before, 2K will concentrate on "The Bigs" for now. Football in America is #1 and if 2K begins to really talk about APF 2K8 then The Bigs will get lost in the shuffle.
2. EA. At this stage in the game EA cannot "steal" features but here is what they can do. If APF says we have a new feature called "running back triple burst double accelerate turbo" (hypothetical of course), then EA will will simply say we have the same thing but we call it "high RPM running back burst mode". To be honest I think we have already seen this. APF announces they will no longer have rating systems but will have Icons for specific abilities and then Madden turns around in a few weeks and says we have "weapons". I don't think that was a coincidence.
3. The less people know the more worried they get (inclding EA). If anyone thinks EA is not worried they are sadly mistaken. If they were not worried about competition they would never have bought the rights to the NFL. A game like this may be a flop or it may really take off and put a dent in their market share.
4. Strategy. When is the best time to release a football game like this? I don't know. 2K doesn't know. I think that is why the release date is so up in the air. 2K may be waiting for a big lull in game releases close enough to fotball season and then release it. I truly believe the game is done or near done. They have had years to work on it. I think they are just waiting for the best moment to start the ball rolling. Everyone on this board will buy the game or they would not be on this board. 2K will save advertising to reach the most people with the smallest amount of cash. Trying to out-advertise EA is just stupid.
Be patient. Believe in 2k Sports and enjoy your summer.

The first sentence is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. "the less people know the more worried EA will get". That just doesn't make any sense. Believe me, EA is loving the situation right now because the casual gamer still doesn't even know 2k is coming out with a football game this year. If you really think that's a plus for 2k, there's really nothing I can say to you because I don't think you would listen to reason. All I can say is no matter how good of a game it is (and at this point I'm starting to be highly skeptical that the 2k game will be any good) it won't matter if people haven't heard of it.

People who read gaming magazines and gaming websites... aka not "casual gamers". I'm telling you, in the real world where people don't cry themselves to sleep at night waiting for APF 2k8 to release a screenshot, Madden is a household name and All-Pro Football 2k8 isn't. Is there anybody out there who thinks 2k8 will outsell Madden? Anybody think it will be close? Remember, it isn't 1/3 the price of Madden this time around.

The BIGS will be the Sleeper hit sports game of the year.
Madden is going to sell no matter what. But 2K8 FB coming out before Madden and alongside NCAA FB is a VERY Smart move and will make an impact on sales.

Because 2ksports has proven in the past if there's one thing they know it's how to make an arcade game. :rotfl:
Seriously people, 2ksports has always shown that there forte is simulations, and they couldn't even make a decent baseball sim this year, so please explain to me why you think they'll knock one out of the park with a baseball arcade game? To clarify, I'm not saying it definately won't happen because I haven't looked into the game too deep, but could you provide some reasoning to back up your opinion, because I just don't see why you would think that?

The vast majority of PS3 and XBOX 360 owners have not heard of this game. My friends have only heard of this game from me, and have little interest because there isn't much I can tell them about it.
The people who read Game Informer are not the typical video game players. They're niche.

If this game comes out in June, I'd be shocked. First, it won't sell and second, it will probably not be very good.
Developers never hide GOOD games. If a game is really good, they don't care if a competitor knows about it. But let's be honest. All Pro football will have NO impact on NCAA or Madden this year, especially if no one has ever heard of the game.
There is no such thing as bad press. 2k should learn that lesson. They need to get this game out. They have also done a poor job of marketing The Bigs, which video game mags seem to like. That makes no sense.

i completetly agree. no developer would hide a good game. there would at LEAST be screen shots and a teaser trailer... its stupid to think they would hide everything so EA cant steal ideas..that never really happens..programming is too difficult to just add some new inventive top secret feature. and trailers wouldnt give much away anyway.
i dont think 2k is putting much hope or money into this game. it relly is a long shot from a buisness standpoint

Me and my friend loved playing 2K football together. As time wore on i stayed a hardcore gamer where as he is more casual now. so i knew all about all-pro football from day one. recently i saw my friend again after not seeing him for a year or two, and even though he still plays video games and i see him on xbox live from time-to-time he had no idea 2K was coming back. I explained everything to him, ever last detail and he was SO EXCITED. I told both him AND his cousin I have never met and they were BOTH excited, his cousin proclaiming madden was garbage and that it was too fake for him. they both loved 2K. so whats my point here? if you don't get the word out soon, even casual fans of the 2K series will miss out on this. You cant release info a month before and expect the rolling snowball of anticipation to be huge, you need to get info out NOW so it can spread quicker than it already is, because if my friend's cousin who was a die-hard 2K5 fan doesn't know this game exists yet, what other casual gamer does? and in the end, THAT is where the market is. You gotta start NOW.

Exactly
My friends are typical black kids who breath Madden because of the soundtrack, I love Hip Hop but its not why I buy a game.
I tell them about this game and as soon as i say "No NFL" they say "Hell No"
To make it worse, after I finally manage to build their interest in the game, we all watch the Madden 08 trailer together and of course they go insane while I have to sit and watch EA make more undeserved money.

I agree with the original post except I don't think "weapons" were taken from 2K so much as from NBA Live. It's gaming for the kids who live on SportsCenter Top 10 and Jacked Up on Monday Night Countdown. In conjunction with Hit Stick 2.0, these form this year's "gimmick". However, I'm sure EA is thrilled it matches 2k in this regard, but I don't think it's a response. All the motion capture for the robo-tron one-handed catches and other special animations would have taken a while to motion capture and include, not mere weeks.

I think it could be costly for 2K/VC to wait such a long period of time before releasing concrete details, screenshots and videos. But, I'm hopeful that when solid details and media are released it'll be of a strong quality. This title could either be the death or re-birth of their currently in hiatus football franchise, so if they don't make it of a certain quality they've essentially ended their football series completely (APF, NFL, or otherwise). With this in mind, I think there could be other underlying issues we aren't aware of or they just don't intend to push their marketing until after The BIGS release.
I mostly think we really need to wait until concrete screenshots and (gameplay) videos are released to know if this game will be a flop or not. Although, I also believe that certain people will be negative about this title no matter how good or forward-thinking it maybe.

They are "brainwashed" into thinking that the NFL license makes the game. This is EXACTLY what EA hopes people say in regards to AP2K8 which is on reason they bought the license in the first place. I refuse to be brainwashe by Madden and its gimmicks. To me, EA proved that an NFL license means nothing if the gameplay always sucks.
I've seen the Madden 08 trailer too, and I'm not really that impressed. Eventhough I am pretty sure Madden will suck again this year, it will still probably outsell AP2K8, but "quanity" means nothing compared to "quality". Another poster said it best when they said 2k is company run by gamers and EA is run by suits.

The game should be good. When they release this game they want to make a statement. To insure we see a 2K9 and more they need to release this game just right. The info they release needs to be strong. I get the feeling they will release video, gameplay, and features all at once.
If Madden mysteriously claims to have all later they have all the features 2K has they so be it.

APF 2k8 could end up being the best game ever made and it still will not hurt Madden. I'm not a madden fan at all, I did buy 07 and traded it in after playing one season because the game was sub-par. I hope APF 2k8 is a great game , but I still may buy Madden 08 only because it is the NFL, and that is why 2k8 will not hurt Maddens market share, people will still want to play with the NFL teams, so like me they may buy both games.

After reading the majority of this thread I have come to the conclusion that most of the members who are anticipating this game (APF 2K8) are impatient gamers with child like "christmas eve" attitudes towards the situation at hand.
As they speculate on the release date of APF 2K8 we can all pretty much assume that it will be no later than August. With that being said you all must realize that its MAY! Theres one thing to think that they arent advertising enough but its a completely different story to believe that they are "with holding" information (i.e. screenshots and vids). Its very early for this title to release footage.
I can recall this same frenzy last year before NBA 2k7 was release. Members here were begging for the same thing (screens and vids) in JUNE! The game wasnt released until September so why do you expect 2ksports to leak so much info more than a month before its release? Theres no reason to rush. I understand that you all are avid gamers and you want something of substance but just be patient and you'll get more than you need soon enough.
