View Full Version : player opinions in recruiting

Here’s a crazy idea…What if there was an option for us to ask the players what they think the team needs, or if they can help recruit any players. Like if two players played on the same team in high school and or college (works for both NBA and college), and you are the coach either recruiting some players or scouting potential draft picks, wouldn’t it be interesting to see what your players opinions are and whether or not they can help lure a prospect for college.

Like if your star player is a SG and you are looking to recruit a SG, you ask him his opinion, and he can say either:

“Ya, he’d be a great back up” – player can affect chemistry and be a significant asset to a team.
“I once played against him, he’s a tough player”
“Our high school teams were division rivals, we never really got along” – player addition can affect chemistry
“How will this affect my playing time?” – player can affect chemistry
“Do whatever you gotta do, I’m declaring for the draft” – this can happen if a player is good, yet frustrated that you are going after a player that plays his position while he still is eligible (unless he’s graduating)
“I think he’d be disruptive, he’s a ball hog” – this can reflect the tendencies of a player, so if your scouting rating is low and it says he likes to pass first, but a former teammate of the prospect says he’s a ball hog, it’ll make you think twice about going after him.
“He’s a beast on the boards!” – can reflect rebounding capability.

I mean this can impact chemistry of a team, your recruiting power, if one of your players may have some influence over a prospect, even your scouting if your ratings are really low. A player can be evaluated by the coaches, scouts, and an opinion about a prospect can be given by the leaders or all the players of the team. I know it seems farfetched but I think it would work for both NBA 2k8 & CHOOPS 2K8. Since next gen is all about making you feel the game, I think this would really liven up the scouting process. Even for NBA 2K8, if you have a disgruntled star player like lets say, Kobe Bryant, and you have a shot at the first pick in the Oden draft, you can ask him what he feels the team needs to do in terms of drafting and acquiring new players, a star player can weigh in his opinion, obviously its important how he feels. Each player should have a comfort/satisfaction level on the team. They already have that in CHoops but its once or twice a season a player will be disgruntled and will transfer or what not. I think if they do this, it would be great, I mean you have just come short in the NC, and your star player is thinking of declaring for the draft. You ask him what would keep him, and he would say, a championship ring. You ask what type of player he thinks you need and any player in particular.

I don’t know it may sound farfetched, but I think it’s a small feature that will greatly enhance the game in general.
