View Full Version : Weather effects...will 2K take it to the next level?

Well we all played dare I say Madden last year. How many of you had a battle in Miami, the field was DRENCHED, and EA didn't even give us as much as a SPLASH or anything. Just a crazy quagmire with no effects to it, a bitmap of water reflection so to speak...

Does anyone think 2K will right these wrongs of next-gen abuse, and give us field splashes, and sliding across icy tundras?

Discuss...

Why do you NEED to bring up Madden no matter what the subject is on 2K????

Madden has nothing to do with it.

Because Madden dropped the ball on weather effects...this is a football game perhaps they will pick up the ball and run with it. Keep trolling my topics I am going to get you banned.

Weather effects would be sweet. Of course there will be those who whine about losing online due to some slip or fumble or wind-blown pass... but that's real football.

And not all of us bought Madden. I tried 2 games at a friend's house on his 360 and that was enough for me. Didn't see any weather FX in those 2 games, though.

if i remember vc stated that 2k5 would have animation dealing with the elements like qb fumbling and such. well when that game came out there was none of that so i am skeptical about it now.

Probably wasn't enough time, because they were too busy implementing new stuff and destroying Madden in the meantime for half the price!!!

I think this was a great ideal for a post...however be careful that you don't allow others to change the subject...then they win...Yes I believe that weather will effect this game and that will be sweet

TILL24 , I know exactly what you are saying about Madden. The first time I played in a game with puddles I was like wow that looks sick I can't wait to get tackled in that, and after getting tackled no thing happened. No splash, no ripple in the water nothing. Its cool that they had puddles but you would expect the water to be interactive. Maybe EA will change that this year I don't know, if not hopefully 2K has some good weather effects in the game because I have been wanting this in a football game for years.

till24 stop it. you sound like a fanboy from that statement. what about the uniforms only getting dirty when it rains or the ball laces facing you when you kick xp or fg's? there was alot of things 2k messed up on that could have been fixed with proper bug testing if the game came out in august instead of july. it could be a repeat of 05 with all pro. the game is coming out so soon, there might not be enough time to bug test this one either.

I can't be a fanboy on a 2K forum?

Anyways, I am sure this game has been finished for awhile now seeing as how there are no uniforms or rosters to update as well as rules to comply with. The bug testing is probably going on as we speak.

The sports guy from 1UP said the weather stuff looked good in 2K8 FB and it WILL effect the gameplay!
Your punter/kicker could slip attempting a kick. The RB could wipe out in the mud etc...
Do you realize that the NFL with all their jerky "No Fun League" rules will not even allow EA to use weather effects in an NFL Licensed game!? LMAO! Way to pay a zillion dollars EA for a License that allows you to do NOTHING in an NFL game!

Wow can't believe the NFL is that strict...

eldogg, I hate the "bug-testing" argument. They've known the whole time when they were releasing this game. Therefore, they've done whatever they had to in order to get it ready. Do some of you think that within the last couple of months they were like, "Hey, I think we should release this a day before NCAA 08." lol. They knew from the beginning when their target-date would be. And unlike Madden or NCAA who really only has a year to work on their new games; 2k has worked on this one for a little over a year. If they started working on this game when EA started working on Madden 08 and then 2k decided to jump it up 2 months, then I would see your point. But they've been working on it a little longer. End of story.

It's clear there is ALOT of creativity in this game, I mean hell it's a fantasy football game built from the ground up! Blitz had a hell of a shot @ that with cool teams and gimmicks, but that game sucked HARD.

we will see when the game is released or the trailer being shown tonight what is fixed or not.

I mean hell we wouldn't be gamers , hell human if we like this trailer 100%. There will be some things we will like and dislike, but overall this game should be a blast.

Weather effects mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING if the players don't get down right filthy. There shouldn't be any sparkling white unis in a rainy, muddy game. There were slight stains in 2k5, but they were on everyone in the same location, even the kicker. It got annoying seeing the QB and all of the linemen with the same little dirt stain on their butts.

TILL24
June 8th, 2007, 01:16 PM
I will say this...All players better not get dirty @ the same time or before the game like past installments of 2K sports football.

Madden has nothing to do with it.

Nothing has meaning apart from comparison to something else. Since Madden is the only thing to compare to, well...therefore logically one must mention madden to make a meaningful point about its competition.

Anyway, I sure hope the weather effects are realistic...I would love to see a weak armed QB struggle in wind and rain, and I'd love to see mud splashing all over the place...

Existential Logic.... I love it! Good call, even though you're a Niners Dude. :-p (They shouldn't have dissed Jerry like they did!)

Anyway... the greatest example of the mud-flinging physics I've seen so far are in those Rally Sport racing games. As a matter of fact you can download a demo of DIRT from Xbox Live right now to get a good example of it. DIRT is the latest iteration of the Colin McRae series from CodeMasters. I think the PS3 also has a new Rally game out that really flings the mud... I forgot what that was called. For a while now these kinds of games have their cars getting grungy over the course of the race.

So... the technology is there.

Lol! Although honestly, I was thinking more in terms of General Relativity (although I first heard that phrase from an existential leaning HIstory professor :P )

:-p (They shouldn't have dissed Jerry like they did!)

No kidding. Seems the Cowboys were always more player friendly... just ask Deion Sanders.

Eh.. I lived near Dallas for a while. They'd be friendly to any criminal that could help them win...

Not saying Sanders was a criminal... but there were others...

2k5 does have one slip animation in rain and snow but i've only seen the DB and Safetys do it
