Madden Super-Trailers

Every single year Madden puts out a trailer for their game and we all go..."WHOAH!"
Then we play the game. Then we wonder where is all that awesome stuff we saw in the trailer.
Some of us started to catch on a few years ago, that the Madden marketing videos and the game itself had very little to do with each other.

I just watched this Madden tutorial and remembered all the things that sucked and still suck about Madden.

1) Look at the route indicators - those are exactly the same as from the PS1 days.

2) The camera pull out - it's just as stiff as ever, the 2k5 camera pull out was so much more fluid, plus you could pan left and right with the thumb stick

3) Leinart rolls left and throws a 30 yd bullet to the right sideline - even now, on the next gen consoles, you can still run your quarterback anywhere you like and throw to any part of the field and the pass will go to the receiver like a magnet.

And does the actual gameplay look anything like what we see in the publicity trailers for the game? No.

the funny part about all of it is that people see this as "new" innovative and big!. w/e dude how are you gonna recycle features you should have put in the last 2 years on 360 and ps3? lol wow even better they sold that with a straight face.....

When I saw the trailer for Madden '06 on the 360.. the one with McNabb and the snow and the Giants and the just plain awesomeness...

Wow... I was blown away!

The game... in '06 and '07... well... not so much.

I see you getting upset over every anti-Madden post. I would truly like to understand what it is that you like so much about the series. I also want to know if you've played 2k5 so I'll know if you really have anything to compare it to. I'm not being sarcastic here. I really would like to know.

As a measure of good faith, I'll even start you out. I played Madden '06 on my Xbox for 2 weeks and got through 2 seasons in franchise mode.

- I like the Bruno radio show. It was quirky, well-done and gave you something to listen to while going throught the menus. (Was this still in the Next-Gen versions?)

- I liked that I could change my uniforms and team colors. That was kinda cool.

- I liked the weekly newspapers although I thought they could be a bit more detailed.

- I liked the training camp, mini-game mode. It made the off-season more interesting.

What I didn't like so much:

- The animations were exactly like the ones used in NCAA 2003 (which was a great game for it's time) and were still rather herky-jerky. They would stop moving unnaturally. It took some of my immersion factor away (which is very important to me).

- The presentation was dull. 2k5 had spoiled me by then. While I like listening to Madden during a real game... he just doesn't translate well to video games. His strength is sponteneity... not being scripted. Again... this affects my immersion factor.

- The game just didn't FEEL real. I still felt like I was playing a video game. Even in my limited time with Madden '07 on my friend's 360 (both of us veteran 2k5 players)...we tried to play a REAL game of football, but both ended up resorting to lobbing LONG passes... which usually worked. The games ended up being "Last Long Pass Wins".


So... even though I liked a lot of the franchise mode features... 2k5's gameplay and presentation won out. And their franchise mode isn't that bad either.

OK... there. Now you tell me what it is that EA/Madden has done for you to earn such loyalty.

I never watched Madden previews, reviews, or videos before I bought it. I didn't have to, it was just simple Madden. That name sold me. I honestly liked and played every single madden (while also making stops at Gameday and 2K) until Madden07. But I have to say, after playing 2k5, Madden 2005 slowly but surely started collecting a lot of dust.

Madden06 and 07 on the old gen was fine for me. On the 360 07 was by far the worse football game I ever played. So bad that i sold it, bought another ps2 just to play the ps2 version, then just borrowed 2k5 from a friend.

My point is now I will always read reviews and rent games before I buy them.

I never rented Madden before...I'd just automatically buy it. But Madden 07 for 360 will be the last Madden I ever purchase w/out reading the reviews first. I was shocked at how much they took out of that game!!

Prior to this week, my plan was to automatically go out and purchase 2k8 upon release, but I'm going to check out the reviews on that first as well. I'm still struggling with the one season at a time thing, among a few other things.

In the end, I believe both games will be worth the purchase...but I'm not blindly shelling out 120 bucks to find out that's not the case.

My point is you can't trust the reviews. Based on what we have seen in the past Madden is going to get stellar reviews no matter what and the 2K8 reviews are going to be mediocre even if the game is spectacular.

RENT BEFORE YOU BUY! Then make up your own mind.

my question is why all these people come on here, knowing that for some reason, support a company that does not care about them, dont know their names and try hide the fact that they like madden and bash 2k which i still dont get knowing they dont want to buy the game. its a waste of time when thinking about it. and then come on this fourm and tell people not to talk about madden. um isn't this a fourm? where people can express their thoughts and minds as long as they respect others opinions. EA fourms is for that if noone wants to hear about EA "bashing" which isnt bashing at all its telling the truth. this isnt a dictatorship, if you dont want to hear about bad talk about madden go the EA fourms plain and simple people dont have to share one idea about everything thats why we are individuals. the truth that no one can escape is the fact that EA sucks when it comes to treating customers the way they should. they create a bad product recycle features and call it new. now i say this. if madden 08 is good or whatever then ill say otherwise. but im not getting on here saying something good and holding respect for a company and a business that does not even respect me enough....plain and simple just buy the game and shut up and let people speak their mind and their will..thank you
