Dear fellow football fans and gamers,
I have just watched the disgusting display of regurgitating gameplay and added on features to a redone peice of **** called madden gameplay trailer on gt.com.
All I have to say is same old stuff different year. I actually was expecting a lot more from them but alas the hype machine was the same alot of hype no game changing nothing.
In other words minor improvements nothing major. They just added the stuff that was there 3 years ago on the last gen systems. AND EVERYBODY IS HAPPY!!!!!??????? :( :(
There is no way to stop the media juggernaut that is madden other than word of mouth.
Thats why I believe when we see some actually videos of gameplay using our knowledge of the 2k5 enging and maddens engine. We must do our duty.
SPREAD THE WORD TO OUR FRIENDS FAMILY FREINDS FRIENDS OF FRIENDS !!!! If we all do this and tell them to spread the word who knows how many new people would be exposed to the light... tell them the whole situation about the licensce and everything .....
We must gather support for if we do not WE ARE DOOOOOOOOMED TO PLAY MADDEN FOREVER and play SUB PAR FOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTBALLL.
This is something that I cannot tolerate we must do anything we can to help not JUST 2K but our selves as gamers and FOOTBALL FANATICS.... WE WANT THE ReAL DEAL not the same **** with new crap added on.
HELP YOURSELVES HELP 2K HELP VIDEOGAME FOOTBALL IN GENERAL....
and the kicker is
all you have to do is talk.
(I've got one friend that bought a 360 just for this game and mustering support over here in japan for the few people that actuallydo play american football games here in japan:dance: .) LET US BAN TOGETHER DO NOT LET APF 2k8 GO QUIETLY IN THE NIGHT>>>>>FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOM

This is great...and I have spread it to people but...I think Madden fans will always be Madden fans. They like the video gamey feel of it...they like dropping back and passing the ball 85 yards in the air...the further the better...it's not about realisim with them...it's about playing franchise mode, pricing hot dogs, beating records and sucking each other off. Opps, did I write that? I'm sure that's not true.

Yea, i just watched a clip of that game on the same site. I could not believe how poor the game looked. It actually looked like a last gen game. I haven't played Madden since lik 2000 and i don't intend to anytime soon as long as they keep feeding the consumer that monopolized garbage.

im gonna make a forum subject on myspace.com and ive told most of all my friends who play video games about it. BUT, they're is something about madden were not going to top anytime soon and thats the hip-hop aspect of it. Now if we get 50 cent playing/talking about how tight APF 2k8 then thats a different story, but till then, 2k will always be the little dark skinned child that gets no love from the parents but the light skinned child gets all the attention...(madden)
thats just reality folks

The 10 Step Madden Cycle
1. Announce Madden [Current Year + 1]
2. Announce new feature that people will try out and never play a lot
3. Announce tightened gameplay
4. Watch as Madden fans rejoice and say, "Last years game was garbage, but look at what they're doing this year!"
5. Release video
6. Watch as Madden fans say, "WOW!"
7. Release game
8. Watch as Madden fans rejoice in the first week
9. Watch as Madden fans complain in the second through xth week
10. Repeat

I guess the biggest problem is it will take the release of all pro football to get SOME OF them to open their eyes. But I think another problem is sports gamers arnen't the smartest bunch either. Well the majority of them.

Why would EA change Madden for the better when they are gonna sell millions of copies anyway. It's a tried and true formula and it works for them. I'm afraid that whatever you do, it won't stop people from buying it.

The problem is Madden is a GREAT game for the MAJORITY of people who play football games.
Its not for us because it severely lacks what we like.
But everyone has a different idea of what is realistic football. Some people honestly think Madden is more realistic. Some people just love the hype around Madden as it's the "cool" game to buy. Some people just really want to play with their favorite team or players.

Hey guys I'm not saying boycott madden(THIS YEAR ANYWAYS) I'm saying spread the love and let people know what a great game this is(MIGHT BE). So we can see a 2k9 or 10 and really give it to those *******s at EA. For milking us like cows. Hey this year we might need madden if APF 2K8 doesn't have the legs I dunno. But I really dont want to have to buy their **** ......

Some people just really want to play with their favorite team or players.
Which is why EA has gone after exclusive licencing for a number of sports, and why they have no real interest in either improving their sports games or producing games that offer realistic gameplay. I've said for years: their plan is to 're-create' sports in their image - to provide a easy, pick-up-and-play, (read: mindless) gaming experience for the general (read: mindless) consumer.
EA truly sees the public as 'sheep'. It's not a putdown; it's simply the truth and their marketing strategy. They know 95% of gamers will open their wallets and buy whatever EA shovels, as long as it has 'Officially Licenced!' slapped on the cover.

I am more than happy to jump on the bandwagon of support for APF, and boycott Madden!
So, when does the PS2 version of APF come out? What...? They didn't make it for the PS2??!!
EA made Madden 2008 for the PS2??!!! Are the folks at 2K just plain STUPID!!!???
Ok, so I guess I can't jump on the APF bandwagon... unless someone wants to buy me a 360 (or PS3).

The point you think you're making, isn't a point at all. So EA produces yet another c.rap last-gen version of Madden for the PS2. No sweat for them. Why? Because it's the same c.rap game they've been producing for years. What's one more year for updating the rosters and shoveling it out into stores? No skin off their backs.
APF is a new next-gen offering. It wasn't offered on last-gen consoles. To expect them to produce two versions of a new game is inane. You obviously just wanted to vent without having to think first. Congratulations: you succeeded.

Why? Is 2K paying me for the marketing that they aren't doing for what ever reason? Why will I tell someone about this game? "Hey it's speculated that their's going to be online leagues." "It's speculated that their won't be online drafts."
I'll let 2K do their own marketing, and I'll do my consuming.

Take 2K5, replace the rosters w/ the generic players and legends. Replace the stadiums w/ some of the ones in the game, maybe the not as outrageous ones. Some sig styles just won't be on the old gen.
Seriously, how hard is that?

Actually, that's all I was hoping they'd do for the next-gen version of the game. Too bad they decided to go all 'creative'.
Anyway, you're still talking two different games. 2K has the resources and money for one game only, plus donuts for the programmers' morning coffee break. But get hungry in the afternoon and you're on your own.

No, it is not. It is a poorly done generic version of last gen 2K5. The preview on 1up says that it plays like 2k5. Same engine. Maybe the graphics are a little better, but the amount of features has been decreased. It would have been no problem at all for them to have it on at least PS2 (which is still being sold).
It is NOT insane to expect them to create one new version of a new game, but they barely did that.

Iam a video game fan no matter who makes it , if it is a good game. I only play 2k basketball because it is the greatest game ever in my mind. The only other Bball game I played as much was the first inside drive for the xbox box. Now football the on the 360 has been horrible Ill give u that .
But here is my gripe. guys are killing Madden for nothing groundbreaking. To me it looks like this will be the first enjoyable one. They havent added anything groundbreaking but the game runs better and they have added little features.
The reason why I have a gripe is because on the other hand every preview about 2k says that they have not added anything groundbreaking. They all are saying it is basically 2k5 with a few new features. 2k5 was a great game but I dont want to play a game that I played on my regular Xbox years ago. They had years to make this game great and it just sounds good. You guys can kill me if u want but u sound alot like what u call Madden guys fanboys .
Both games sound good but neither great. I was expecting 2k8 to dominate like nba2k7 but I dont think it is gonna happen.

And there you have it. What we all were hoping for and expecting isn't going to happen. APF is going to be another also-ran football video game that probably won't be seen again after this installment. Why? Because when 2K could have made something GREAT (and for the masses w/ a PS2 version) they instead made something GOOD, and limited in its potential audience.

Well, then it's a matter of what you think they should be able to afford to do versus what they were able to do. They're not EA. They don't have the resources.
Hey, I'm bothered by the fact they didn't just make NFL 2K5 version 2, but I understand they were trying to make a next-gen game - which is the logical choice IMO. I mean, it's really 'now-gen', not next-gen. And 'current-gen' long ago became 'last-gen'. At some point it's time to move on.

I agree with that. Whoever is making the decisions for that company, has rocks for brains. I mean, they're releasing an arcade baseball game next month as well. Stupid.
Still think this is a different issue though than your complaint about not making a football game for last-gen systems.

I agree. I would think they would use the resources for APF if the resources were limited. Instead they wasted some of these precious resources on an arcade style 'slugfest'. That, to me doesn't make sense. Sure, The Bigs looks pretty, but they already have a decent MLB game. They could have improved on that, too.

The Bigs actually looks pretty fun. I never play baseball games because they bore the hell out of me, but I'll end up picking The Bigs up because it reminds me of Baseball Stars. I don't think it's all that bad a choice to release. People enjoy over the top games, especially when there hasn't been one for a paticular sport in awhile.
As for 2K8 on last gen systems. They could have done it by toning down the visuals a little bit. I think the bottom line is that they were rushed for time and just decided to push something out. Good move? Probably not, but that's what they decided to do. I think they could have helped their sales out significantly by releasing it on several platforms, but it's not my choice to make those calls.

Sorry Scotty, it comes down to personal preference. I don't like an arcade style baseball game, but a lot of people do. I ran with a thought but forgot to think it all of the way through. Slugfest, and others like it have been successful in the past, otherwise, why would 2k do it? I keep thinking about how they say their resources are limited, but I'm not realizing the sales from The Bigs will add to those. 2k has the exclusive third party rights to the MLB. Only Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft can come out with MLB games. Anyway, back on track. I have prepaid for APF. 'Nuff said.

The bottom line is, we have a choice. Choose wisely. Pick whatever will cater to you, and you only. That, to me, is the most important thing here. We can think up conspiracy theories, money talks cliches, and David and Goliath story lines. It all boils down to this........Are you going to enjoy playing the football game that you chose??
End of story!!

June 19th, 2007, 09:18 AM
I pre ordered 4 copies one for myself and the other three for my madden nationality friends so they can spread the word when thrier friends come over. Its easy for a madden guy to spread the word to their friends than it is a 2k guy.
Two things from that ugo article that were key
In designing your team (there's room for up to 20 custom squads), you'll pick not only the hometown and stadium (many of which are themed to ridiculous proportions), but also design the look of the team's uniforms. You have complete control over the color layouts on your uniforms and equipment. Although team names are pre-determined, you can easily take some extra time to model exact replicas of NFL team uniforms
Abilities such as scrambler, clutch, signal stealer, leadership bonus and laser arm help define in concrete terms just how one player excels over another. These special abilities also appear in the game's "create-a-player" mode.

Negative, Madden this year will sell more copies than its previous years. HOWEVER, that doesnt mean we cant do the best we can to make 2K8 a strong seller - Personally am having Myself and up to 3 friends purchasing it.
