franchise - madden
NFL license - madden

So what else does Madden have?

So far it looks like Madden wins just because of their franchise and nfl license?

Have you played both games???

You forgot replay value and what you get for your money.....I think those go to Madden.

what r u talking about? i was playing 2k5 saturday night and i saw and heard new commentary and animations i have never heard or seen before!!! The game is 4 years old! Now if you can get more for your money than that (and i have madden as well and i know every animation on that game that there is after one month) then i don't know how 2k could possibly please you.

Replay value = Even.

I say replay value even, because most gamers who choose Franchise only play Offline. Meanwhile people like me who enjoys Online games, could play this game all year without even playing a Franchise game offline.

So it really depends on the gamer, Some are into offline and others online.

Bang for the Buck = Madden

This is almost even, but it goes to Madden because of their NFL license.

APF2k8 just offers these little custom features that makes it a worthy purchase. I think it is going to be fun creating custom teams.

Madden is just riding on their NFL license right now.

Maybe if we went to the forums and posted stuff that was wrong with madden and not mention 2k8 wonder what would happen?

Bang for the Buck = Madden
??? 2K5 at $20 and which I still play 3 years later, had bang for the buck. Madden at $60 and which gets stale before the thing even hits the console tray, has no bang for the buck value whatsoever.

baandje is right - what madden game have you ever played for three years straight and never been bored?

Madden 07 had replayability online for myself but thats only cos my xbox 1 is not online and i cant play 2k5 online whereas i can 07 - but i admit every game i played of madden online i cursed several times at the poor programming.

What game period have people played for three striaght years, other than NFL 2K5? None. By that standard alone, it has to be considered the best video game of all time ;) Although I admit Finn's editor has had something to do with 2K5's lasting appeal.

i need replay value, online ain't all its cracked up to be. Its fun just to pick up a game but when you put forth so much effort to join a league and it never works out the way it should.

Online is the ONLY way to play sports games. Anyone with even half a brain can demolish computer AI all day. I cant think of anything more boring actually. I dont even play in online leagues because 90% of the people either quit or dont play their games, so why bother. Just get some good lobby games in. They are 1,000,000% more gratifying than beating the damn computer.

Couldn't disagree more.

Simply a pathetic attempt by Madden, AGAIN, from what I've seen.

Looks like 06 and 07 to me. The atmosphere is just all wrong in that game. Sorry.

I can't wait for APF.

Im not a fanboy of either football game because I love football, and Ill play whichever one is better. That being said, I thought that Madden 07 - The PC version, was the best football game ever made. If they never made another Madden, I would absolutely play that for 3 more years.

This man speaks the truth! Although, I've had great success in finding online leagues where people stayed the whole season, so online leagues is a go for me.

You have a point, so I'll give you 5.5 for that response. But here's the thing: The Fever series isn't being made anymore either, but how many people still play that game? Zero.

NFL 2K5 is still being played because it's the best football game ever produced, period. It's better BY FAR than the football game EA produces three years later on next-gen consoles... that's how good 2K5 is.

thats enough for me. I liked the 2K Football series but I am not interested in playing a game that isn't Official NFL or NCAA football.

trufully whats the point of having the licenes anyway. now that the nfl turned into the No Fun League. it doesnt have that flair it use to have like in the 80's or 90's when i was young watching it. hopefully for the next installemnt for APF they give us a completely new league . the way i see this game... the developeers know that most people buy atleast 2 FB games so why not give APF the customization and online leagues the others dont have and your second FB game can satify your franchise wet dreams

I buy Madden about once every three years. This year is one of those years. This seems to be the first year that they are making a true leap over their PS2 version of '06.

With that said, NFL 2K5 is still my favorite football game of all time. I still play it often. It's a game that was way ahead of its time. Unfortunately, aside from the game play, the things that made it truly special are rumored to have not made into APF 2k8.

I just bought 2K5 for 5 dollars this past weekend after foolishly selling mine. I don't have a AR memory card so I just use fantasy draft through franchise and have played it everyday since. I will never sell this copy b/c if APF, Madden, and NCAA doesn't live up to they hype, I have a football game I can play for another three years.

Having not played either game:

APF:
If I go off of this past year's 2K games (I have NBA, NCAA, and rented MLB) I'd have to say signs of great gameplay are showing for APF. But that's it. Yes gameplay is where it's at and what matters most. But it's not the only thing. I feel w/ no multiple season mode you lose a fraction of gamers, and w/ no old gen version, you lose another fraction. To me it's been made very clear 2K doens't care about the fans, they care about getting the license back.

Madden:
Based off the past two next gen games, this will suck. But it seems they put the features back in their were always present on the old gen. I see EA finally making an attempt to to put out a decent product. But, I was not impressed w/ their new video. It looks smoother, but I can't tell the difference between 07 and 08.

Bottom line, the more I see, my money will first go towards APF. Maybe a couple years ago I would have gotten all three, but theirs no sense in that. I will rent Madden and NCAA. If they suck, I have no problem getting fynn's editor and playing 2K5 for another year.

Last fall, my 3 year old Xbox started to act up. All I ever use it for now is 2K5, but I phoned some stores to see how much a new one would cost. Only found one store that even sells them anymore, because Microsoft has stopped producing them. So I bought a second Xbox, just in case my old one finally bites it. Plus a picked up a second copy of 2K5 for good measure, new and still unopened ;)

So what would be the best football game ever? Madden 02 for the PC was pretty good - completely different graphics and game engine than the console version and all future PC versions. But NFL 2K5 still has that game beat.

BTW: Finn's editor essentially fixes every single gameplay issue that 2K5 had, and I agree out of the box it wasn't very good. Offseason still has issues though.
