I used to be a die-hard madden fan. Ever since falling in love with the franchise mode for madden '99 for the n64, I have purchased madden every year up to now. For the past 8 years, madden had been the "go to" game that I can play for diversion from my schoolwork.

After I tried NFL 2k5, and going back to madden... I realized how boring the madden game really is. Madden gameplay lacks excitement or immersion. I always loved the owner mode in madden; but I asked myself, "what is the point of going through the owner mode if the gameplay is so dull?"

It is disappointing that apf 2k8 does not have the franchise mode, but I think it is not that big of a deal. Remember, nfl 2k1 for the dreamcast didn't have a franchise mode, and it was still a really enjoyable game. I am not planning on purchasing madden 08 or ncaa 08 this year because the trailer videos show that their gameplay still has not changed all that much from the previous versions. My guess is that the gameplay will be boring, again. (What's up with the radio announcer guy for madden?!!) I wouldn't care for the franchise mode in madden 08 if the game doesn't seem like it will be fun to play. Apf 2k8 seems like it will be fun to play with all the football strategies to implement.

This is off-topic, but to all you youngsters... try harder in school if you're not doing so well. Get help if you need it; there are many different people that you can look to. By taking your education for granted, you're automatically closing your window of opportunities. If you want a bright future and an enjoyable life, you will have to earn it. You have the power to control your life.

To me, and i know I am the minority, I'm not going to miss Franchise mode. It seemed so UNrealistic that after trying several times it just wasn't fun. There have already been over 100 players moving to new teams in the NFL this year and the last franchise mode I played there were 8. Just 8. When you can trade all of your draft picks for Manning then there is a problem. And yes I've done that.

I can't stand the fact that rookies start off in the 60's because of the WORTHLESS awareness factor. It goes up at the end of the season through a BS program that the game uses. Awareness should go up every week. That's why rookies in the real NFL start in later games on teams building for the future. They have been practicing and are looking to get the speed in control.

I know that SO many people are missing the franchise mode but from what I've read it will be added in the future. But how do handle the draft? Wouldn't you be drafting "fill-in" spots because the All-Pros are the focus. Would players never retire? If they retire would the just be drafted again?

Anyway I won't be missing it, and I know I'm not alone.

LOL! No kidding. Boy, if I were a Madden fan, that alone would turn me off the game this year. I mean, three years now with that s***??? Yikes.

I still play NFL 2K5. NEVER played franchise, only single seasons. So I agree with your points, even if it's indirectly. Farnchise is not neccesary in order to make a game worthwhile, although I understand some woul disagre with that.

That said, there's simply too much 2K did not include in APF to warrant an automatic purchase IMO. I will rent, and I might buy. But I won't be rushing out to do either next month.

I understand that people are mad about FRANCHISE. You guys have all the right to be MAD. Now APF does have a SEASON Mode. You guys are probably saying WTF does that have to do with anything. We'll with the ability to put together any team you like in APF, what's wrong with a "RINSE & REPEAT" attitude.

Playing different seasons with different teams YOU create every time @ the beginning of a season. 1 year you use ELWAY as your QB, the next year your MLB is Mike Singletary, another year you rush for 2,000 yards with Barry Sanders...

This concept can add a lot of replay value to this game, if your open-minded enough to try this..

I think once we actually see the true graphics and animation all running at 60 fps, our jaws will drop. I'm sure that they have the game itself absolutely dialed and that's the only reason I don't mind picking it up. I'm still miffed that there is soooooo much left out of the game and they are charging what they are charging for it, but since I've only purchased one football game in the last 3 years, I guess I'll suck it up and not worry about the price.

I do feel bad for Franchise people. I played franchise when I was bored and just wanted to see teh superbowl ending. I myself am a gameplay person mostly. Maybe 2K9 could be the game to really make me appreciate franchise (if it comes) the way you guys do.

While in college (I still am in college), because 2K was so fun I had to learn to play it in moderation. Try to keep it to weekends and vacation days so as to not get too distracted.

Good post here.

People should take notes, you don't have to diss people to say something. I won't be buying APF immediately, if at all, because of the lack of a franchise mode (nor will I buy Madden, not a Madden fan), but at least there will be some good online games for those who want it.

What's wrong with a Rinse & Repeat alternative for those who are FRANCHISE Only gamers?

To answer ya question right quick Big...and thsi is just from my perspective...i love franchise because i love teh idea of building a dynasty...i don't like the build one team from scratch for one season thing because there no depth to it for me. I love playing rivalry games and trying to win multiple superbowls, maybe taking a specific player to G.O.A.T status by the time his career is over. I like that sort of stuff in a sports sim video game. And 1 season isn't enough for me to enjoy that. because after a couple of months you used everybody you had to...did everything you wanted..then what?...so that's just my perspective....to each's own though you kno? I like online gameplay..i just can't afford it man times is hard! lol

Last I checked Madden's Franchise wasn't the best anyway.
Players were running for 4,000 yards a season.
Rex Grossman was leading the NFL in passing with 60 TDS and 2 INTS.
The salary cap was at like $350 million. I would spend $160 million and have like $130 million left.
The franchise AI was so terrible that it made franchise unrealistic and not fun to play. And don't mention their Hall of Fame players. Aaaron Brooks made the HOF..lol

The last paragraph = best comment of the year...

Dont buy madden..The less money they have, the less likely they will shell out another 700million to extend the deal...

Yes... nice to see a positive thread about this.

I'm a "franchise baby", but I'm sure I'll have plenty to do in this game.

After seeing the list of players, I'm sure it'll take me a while to use most of them. I'm old enough to remember most of them fondly. A lot of them I used in my old pen N paper games.

I have been a diehard madden fan since 1999 or so. I have always loved playing it, but the last few years have been hard with the poor gameplay and such.

I tried playing franchise all these years but after a year or two it just gets boring. Perhaps it's my A.D.D. kicking in.

I always venture online and then get stuck playing the cheesers. I know there will be cheesers on 2k8 but hopefully not as bad.

When Madden's franchise first had ticket prices, hot dogs, and advertising, I thought it was cool, but it quickly wore off.

I cant wait for July. I am sick and tired of Madden.

I didnt mean to rant and rave but it's what I do best.

Peace,

~C~

Yeah, but I've been on the EA Boards. . . & quite frankly those are a bunch of kids who need a 'Big Brother' or an after school program (or grown men who once did). . . .forreal. . .their grammar & communication skills (of lack there of) is atrocious!

They could never express themselves like the starter of this thread, Thank you for pouring out your thoughts to us, & thanks to everyone else for embracing this. . .:thumbsup:
