....websites like gametrailers. 2k8 is getting seen and heard about by 100s of thousands of people. And you know those people are telling there friends etc.
total downloads madden 08 (8 Videos) 456,600

We have alot of peopl on these forums that post ...some want the game no matter what while others are on the fence. That is your decision to make. THen there are the ppl who come on these forums but never post and just read and get info.
I guess the main reason for this post is....that this game has a audience. It is not as large as other football games...but trust me 2k5 made some noise 3 years ago and there are alot of people who know about this game.
Once it comes out ...and the reviews start hitting it will get even more exposure....especially if the game gets reviews like 2k5 did. Lets hope the idioit reviewers dont take points of final scores because of what the game doesnt have versus what it does have (I HATE WHEN THEY DO THAT!!! LOL)
Im out

This is agood point and most likely explains why we don't see much internet advertisements and exposure.
As far as reviews go, expect this game to get no higher than a 7.7. People will be singing the praises of both next-gen Madden and NCAA this year like no other year before. They'll compare the depth in Madden and NCAA to APF and thereby claim APF is shallow in features.
It's not going to be fun.

Look at the other rated 2k football games there's no way in hell it pulls a 7.7. This game is mid 8's to lower 9's. Probably a 9.1

if you check gamespot.com, almost every nfl 2k has a 9.1

I'd be thoroughly surprised if the game got consistent 9's. Reviewers will knock the score down a point or so due to lack of replay value... I doubt they'll see it as an online game. I just hope we don't see the scores dip too low. I also see certain graphic ***** reviewers (those moronic 1up guys) dropping the game a little bit because it's not as... I dunno... Shiny as Madden.
I hope I'm wrong and people can see APF for what it really is. I just have a feeling that Madden and NCAA may actually be "respectable" games this year and people will put APF up next to them instead of judging it on it's own merits.

reviewers don't really consider online play that much when reviewing a game. It won't get 9's most likely.

have you guys noticed that 2k5 came out, there was no news about it, then when the game was a bit of a sucess, they made commersals saying from IGN it will steal your soul, ect, and that got more people hyped who had never heard of the game before and brought it.

Yeah, I'm thinking mid 7's as a total package.
When EA released the first MVP NCAA game, it got dinged for being a college game instead of a MLB game. The same will happen to this game. Which is unfortunate because it's not being judged on what it is, it's really being judged on what the reviewer would like it to be, which is unfair.
But I think mid 7's to possibly low 8's (if the presentation is improved from early builds) due to a lack of features that we have come to accept as standard in a "next gen" sports title.
IGN breaks down reivews by:
-Presentation
-Graphics
-Sound
-Gameplay
-Lasting Appeal
-Presentation, early on, is said to be lacking. (Maybe a 6 or a 7 unless it improves...if it ends up living up to 2K5, it could get a 9 or a 10...2k5 got a 10)
-Graphics are solid, but nothing amazing. Animations could carry this category to a 9(8-9)
-Sound...who knows? (2K5 got a 9, but if there is no improvement, it probably drops to an 8 for a game 2-3 years newer).
-Gameplay is where this game should excel...I mean with a lot of stuff done bare bones, the gameplay has to be outstanding for this game to have a chance (praying for a 9-10, but a 9 is probably more likely).
-Lasting Appeal is probably where this game will get hammered. Online and online leagues are a plus, but aren't part of the basic game as they require the user to have Xbox live, which many don't. It doesn't have a multi-season or franchise, which pretty much defines replayability. But the user does have the abilitity to play multiple seperate seasons for ultimately different experiences. While these things are nice, I would bet this game get's slammed for having no franchise (probably a 6 or a 7).
Using an average (though IGN says specifically it is not an average), I could see it getting mid 7's to possibly low 8's.
Also, remember this game, in reviews, will undoubtably be compared to Madden, which has these standard features. They will use what Madden has against this game, even though Madden won't be out for another month.
Maybe that abother good thing about the release date. The reviewers really can't compare experiences from Madden and NCAA only what they have seen in preview pictures and videos.
Obviosuly, if the game changes drastically from those early reviewers build, then anything is possible. I'm just using my opinion from what I read in those reviews.

Nice breakdown, Trev.
Seems like a realistic assessment.

I think you're spot on. We'll most likely hear comments like, "With the playability and depth that Madden 08 will soon offer, APF will quickly lose it's appeal."
If you are saying, "there's no way it gets a 7ish rating, nost NFL 2K games got in the 9s," well, that may be true, but this game, according to some previews, is lacking some of the things we all loved in 2K5, and I bet they hold it against them in reviewing the game.
Someone at IGN has already stated that because of the improvements to Madden and NCAA, this may have been the wrong season for APF to come out.
Just get ready to be ****ed at IGN, that's all I'm saying.
And, thanks to Trev for making a great post. It's getting rare to see that around here.

It will score low this year though. Because reviewers will talk about it not being a complete game. They are not going to care about the reason that Greg Thomas said there is no franchise. They will look and see no franchise. That alone is going to knock it down to an in reviewers eyes. Then if they find anything else they'll keep knocking it down. They'll talk about graphics. They will make a comparison, it's inevitable. They'll talk about how the grass isn't next gen ect.

thus again to not play devils advocate here but 2k would have no one else to blame but them selves really. they dont know how to market their games and they really don't know when to stand up. i mean greg thomas can jump up and say shut up and play but in reality he cant sell the game at a press conference, saying the same stuff over and over again..i already brought the game because of my personal research. but it should not be my job to find info where they should provide the info..plain and simple it's the 21st cen.

Im glad this thread didnt turn into a flame fest. Just wanted to get it out there that ppl are looking at APF...based on the DLs from one site (game trailers).
But as far as reviews...its a given that the game will score low based on what it doesnt have versus what it has!!
Hell what did madden 06 get...gamerankings has it at 162 reviews average score 74.6% ..... that is what I see happening to APF....Madden 06 was stripped down and still got a avg of almost 75%.
But when it boils down its all about what you like. I have seen plenty of games have HIGH review scores and I just dont like them much.
