View Full Version : gold legends to good?

Ok, after watching the trailer with Montana and Rice and them it looks like the legends are good, like really good. Pulling off huge plays everytime, now I can understand this happening every so often but if they're constantly pulling big plays thats pretty unrealistic. This is just a worry thats come to mind. A perfect example of what I'm talking about is when it first shows walter peyton running the ball, he breaks tackle after tackle without slowing down it seems. I just hope the gold legends aren't like gods, yes they're legends but come on.

I'm thinking a lot of that was chosen for the trailers to showcase the legends. They gold legends should be head and shoulders above the others. Sanders should run much better then the silver or bronze backs. But it shouldnt be out of control, plus i would imagine that a legend defense player would have an easier time stopping a legend the a generic would.

thats kind of what I'm saying though, the generic players should still stand a chance though and in some cases it just looks like they don't

Cmon you shouldn't be worrying about this stuff when you don't even have the game in your hands yet

I think its a perfectly good thing to worry about, because if it is like that with the legends way over powered or constantly pulling off huge plays I don't think I would give this game more then a rent.

You need to use your brain. A trailer consists of highlights, not boring plays.

Generic players didnt have a chance against these guys when they played in the NFL. It wouldnt make sense for Jerry Rice to get jammed by a no name corner, because when he went up against a bad one he caught the ball. Even if the corner was good he still caught it. Barry dominated no matter who he was against, so why should a generic player be able contain him.

ok thats complete bs, every player messes up or gets stopped its a proven fact. to say that the legends would constantly school a regular player is way off base, and as far as the trailer highlight thing yeah that makes sense but decider13 don't make it seem like legends are unstoppable because they aren't and shouldn't be either.

^^yeah i forgot that in my other post. I'd like to see payton try those moves on Samurai Mike
and im not saying they should be unstoppable, I'm just saying i wouldnt want to see Montana underthrow his recievers all the time, because that isnt true to him. The legends should make fewer mistakes since they are...legends. Some scrub QB shouldnt have the same ammount of INTs as Montana.

NO they shouldnt... have you ever seen these guys play? no one... not even the best of the leages linebackers could tackle barry... or walter and rice was just about uncoverable... these guys should be unstopable... so to cover rice... you would need another legend like a gold CB

your a complete idiot, they weren't always pulling off TD's and things like that. Get over yourself, yes they were great but they were still stopped sometimes, they should be better then generic players but not able to completely destroy them, that is completely unrealistic. you need to think about what you just said about them being unstoppable because ya know what would happen then, same guy every play and the game of football would be destroyed. and 2k would have failed resurrecting they're franchise. once again just so we're clear I know they're legends, I know there are defensive legends, but they should not be able to destroy the generics everytime

Yes they were stopped sometimes, but they still dominated. Plus you are basing your entire arguement on two trailers and a few gameplay videos. And you are citing an instance from the original, early build trailer.

I hope someone does choose all offensive legends. I'll have a field day on them.
First, since they're going with all generic D that means you'll be able to score on them at will. If you however have a good mix of D and O then you should be able to give their offense problems and keep their scoring to a minimum. While they won't be able to do anything with their ALL-G defense

In my experiences playing any game, you have a lot to do with how the 'star' plays. They may be harder to tackle or something... However, for the most part, it is up to the person playing the game to pull off the moves that you see on the videos.
I wouldn't worry too much about Walter Payton being a god on the field...
I would worry more about the guy that loads his team with stars in the "non-skill" areas such as the Lines and such. He is either very silly or knows how to play the game...
Hope that makes sense...

Barry Sanders Limitation= 3 vs. 1
Jerry Rice Limitation=3 vs. 1

I'm gonna have complete balance, I think 6 legends for defense and 5 on offense, I think thats what I'm gonna do because I think you get a total of 11 legends right? 2 gold, and so on so forth. I'm gonna have a gold for each side then take it from there. Damn about the whole trailer argument too maybe those runs that peyton was pulling off were against a pass defense too

Well if I were playing you I know that I can keep you from scoring since you got the vanilla offense and I'll just take what you give me when I got the ball. I'll score something for the simple fact that you are relying on the all star D to carry you through but there WILL be weakness and I'll exploit them till they hurt and then.... well let me not give away the farm. ;)

Well,
Lets use an example - lets say Reggie White. Now Reggie is a legend, so your telling me that in his prime, in real life a generic offensive lineman stood a chance against him???? If you think so your dead wrong!!!! Even when Reggie was going against probowl offensive lineman he was almost always double teamed, sometimes tripled teamed!!! and he still got to the QB.
Jerry rice in his prime was known for his yards after the catch, not the catches. The fact was if you allowed Jerry to catch the ball in his prime you got burned. He could easily rip off 20, 30 or 40 yards after the catch. In fact, I'm 43 years old and there isnt a current reciever in the NFL with the speed or gazelle stride rice displayed after making a catch. Mistake number one was letting him catch the ball, if you happened to be close enough to make a tackle after the catch and missed!!!!! GAME OVER!!!!!!!!
The fact is so few of you guys discrediting the ability of the gold legends clearly were not old enough to see most of these guys play in there prime.
I can remember seeing Jim Brown break not 1 or 2, but 4 and five tackles at least every third run and carry 2 or 3 guys over the goal line riding on his back.
Ignorance is bliss, so some of you just dont have a clue. But I understand all of this happened before your your time.

since we will have some generic players on our teams you won't know what they'll do. Legends were great because they had a consistent performance but they didn't always run 30 yards, break 5 tackles, or anything like that. Even the best qb's threw interceptions against mid rated CB's

No one said always, the point is if a generic player would have been placed 1 on 1 with most of these Gold Legends - at the end of the day the stats would have indicated that the generic player got scorched!!!!! Unless the Legend got injured or had an off day, which happens.

It also comes down to your approach on defense. Stacking the box sure helps. I certainly remember the Packers holding Barry Sanders to -1 yards for the entire game once

what defense do you look for? a shut down like 2000 ravens, 85' bears or what would you look for?
Well, a great defense always starts up front. All the of the all-time great defenses have a superior MLB and great DEs and usually a run-stuffing NT. A great defensive front can make mediocre DBs look like legends. That MLB is key... he is the center of it all.. like the defensive QB. I cant think of 1 all-time great defensive that didnt have a legendary MLB. 60's Packers had Ray Nitschke, The old bears had Butkus, and Singletary in 85, The Ravens and Ray Lewis, The Bears now and Brian Urlacher, I mean... for every great defense you could ever think of, there is a dominant force at MLB. The 96' Packers had Wayne Simmons (An excellent MLB), and also 3 legends up front in Reggie White, Gilbert Brown (maybe not a legend, but def. one of the all-time great run-stuffers), and Sean Jones and his 7 foot wingspan.
Gotta stack the front first.. you could have gold CBs, but it doesn't help 1 bit if the opposing QB has all the time in the world to throw. Not to mention, you gotta stop the run first.

Rex? He was pathetic in that game.
No WRs, again because Rex was really bad.
RBs? no.
The only offense the Bears showed in Super Bowl XLI was Hester, and that was Special teams.
I am a Bears fan. I was born one, I will die one But I am the first to find fault with them. They have a very dominant D, Their O is nothing to brag about. Rex Grossman showed some ability, and I think he will do fine in the NFL, but he's far from a 'playmaker'.
I wouldn't consider anyone on that offense a 'playmaker'. Some have the ability to break a long run, or catch a deep one for 6pts, but none of them could be considered legendary......

I wouldn't worry. Let's wait to see how this game plays. There is always a way to neutralize a 'playmaker'. The key is to find it, before you get smoked. It may be one of the scrubs that could step up and make a play. It could be one of your own legends to stuff their weapon. All I know is, I'm going to have a lot of fun figuring out ways to stop some of these Motherfookers.

Some of the fun of the game is gameplan. Figuring how to contain a Rice, Payton, Sanders, etc, is going to be half the fun. Finding someone other than a legend to be a 'playmaker' may be possible. It could all depend how you utilize the strengths of your team.
I predict this will be a non-issue. Next question.
