Hmmm

Defintely way faster then Mcnaab or Culpepper, not quite as fast as Vick, overall Cunny was better then all of the guys you compared him to. The best scrambler of all times had to be Fran Tarkanton though.

Fran Tarkanton
In his 18 NFL seasons, Tarkenton completed 3,686 of 6,467 passes for 47,003 yards and 342 touchdowns, with 266 interceptions. He also used his impressive scrambling ability to rack up 3,674 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns on 675 carries. During his career, Tarkenton ran for a touchdown in 15 different seasons, an NFL record among quarterbacks. He ranks fourth in career rushing yards among QB's, behind Randall Cunningham, Steve Young and Michael Vick. He is also one of two NFL quarterbacks ever to rush for at least 300 yards in seven different seasons; the other is Tobin Rote. Voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986, Tarkenton is widely considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time due to his running and passing ability.

Yes, Young is in the game.

I have a feeling a lot of people will be using Cunningham...

He didn't really have break away speed but he was VERY agile. I would say little slower than Vince Young.

Vick Speed

Culpepper speed

Cunningham was faster than Culpepper and McNabb, but a tab slower than Vick. However he was more athletic than all three. Vick has nice moves, but he can't take a hit too well. Cunningham had no problem taking his lumps, and most of the time he did. But Cunningham had great speed, good accuracy, a strong arm, and he made defenders look foolish.

Dissagree. Steve Young was better. Better numbers all around, including better passing efficiency, and had Young started those four years he was behing Montana, who knows? I mean, number one all time in rushing touchdowns, 2 in yards, 1 in passer rating, and led the league in passer rating 6 of 7 seasons, including four in a row... can't beat that...

Young > Tarkenton.

You can't just run him ragged. Cunningham was a good runner and good QB, but you can't "Vicktimize" with him because he'll get injured. It's what happens to QB's, you run them repeatedly, their stamina gets low, they get tired, and you get impatient waiting for them to be all green, so you figure "just a little run" and he gets annihalated by Mike Singletary and badda boom, he's injured.

nah i wont run him.. I meant ill use him like Vick in the pocket.. I run around in the pocket with Vick differently Then i did with Culpepper because Pepper didnt have the same AGI as Vick.. and Mcnabb had a different agility.. so you can only cut so much

Well, that makes sense. I thought you meant you'd be like those godawful cheesers and run with him every single time.

Hey Steve was great,

Though he did not become the 49ers' starter until his 8th NFL season, and though he played a full season only twice during his 15-year career, Young compiled impressive career numbers. He completed 2,667 of 4,149 passes for 33,124 yards and 232 touchdowns, with 107 interceptions. His 96.8 passer rating is the highest in NFL history; his 4,239 rushing yards are the second most ever gained by a quarterback, behind Randall Cunningham.

But the fact is we cant count those 8 years he didnt play, and Steve wasnt as good a scrambler as Fran or as durable, and Steve has the concussions to prove it. Steve only played 2 complete seasons!!!!! Facts are you had to see both of them play. The key is though Fran scrambled a lot he almost never got hit, and he usually only scrambled until a reciever was open, rushing was his last resort - so the rushing yards dont tell the whole story. The fact is if Steve started earlier in his career he just would have been out of the game sooner - he just would take too many hits and was not very durable!!!

yeah, but youngs got a super bowl ring and is really the only "scrambling" QB to start for a super bowl champ.

Randal was great despite having a horrible offensive line, no running backs...unless you consider Heath Sherman a RB, and not one Pro-Bowl caliber WR. All he had was TE Keith Jackson.

Also, he was never really coached, Buddy Ryan used to send him out and just say "Make a play". Young had a great line, TE Brent Jones, Ricky Waters, Rice, even T.O. for a short time. Plus he was tutored by Joe Montana and Bill Walsh!

Imagine if Cunningham had even ONE of those things.

Wow shinobi is taking a scrambling quaterback what a stretch. I wonder why mabey he's worried his glitchy run game will get fixed and all he'll be able to do is scramble with the qb,i mean its not like he can pass or anything.

Incase of a respone: You'll probably comment using the whole mcnabb theory but think to yourself this, Did i ever scramble before you did? Hmm think long and hard if you can think at all.

Steve didnt play until his 8th year becuase he had someone named Joe Montana in front of him. I dont give a **** who you are, you are NOT going to kick Joe to the side when Joe was in his Prime. IT could be Peyton Manning and it wouldnt have happend.

Hmmm,

I dont get it, you state something clearly and folks still can't understand. Its irrelevent to my point as to why Steve didnt start. What I am stating is because of Steve's playing style and durability he would not have played any longer nor amassed better numbers if he did start earlier. The guy was destined to be a 7-8 year starting QB (which is Great) based on his style of play and physically. Steve Young only played two complete seasons during his time as a starter, the only QB I know that could possibly have a worse history of injuries/incomplete seasons is Elvis Grbac!!!!!
