I can't believe how BAD the servers LAG Sega! You have got to get to work before these ESPN 2005 games release. Your online is Embarrassing right now. I'm going to paste a rant I wrote on another gaming board. I figured it should be HERE too! Hopefully Sega will hear the cries of the PS2 owners and know we aren't happy with this LAG online. It BLOWS!!!
Below is what I wrote in response to a question asking me if I use Dial up or play Vs Dial up. The answer is no and no. i use Broadband as do mu friends... and it still LAGS like Crazy!!! Unplayable. Ok, here's the post:

No, I'm talking LAG with BROADBAND!!!! Even when it says you have a "Good" connection which is very rare online with your opponent... it still lags and hiccups and SUCKS!!! It really is a Crime... and for some reason NONE of the gaming mags or gaming websites have said a fricken word about it! The gaming media needs to get on Sega's *** here man!!! They are getting away with murder claiming they have online for PS2... when in reality they DON'T. What good is it if you get online and can't play the games because the lag is so brutal it has you ready to slit your wrists?

What Sega is talking about adding for online sports games is sounding really sweet.... but I have a sick feeling inside the PS2 owners aren't going to be able to experience it because the Sega servers SUCK!!!!!!!!! And it's really Bizzare... because the first year Sega had online gameplay for the sports games... the Football and Basketball played FLAWLESS with hardly nay lag at all. I played my friends all the time online. THEN for some screwy/crazy reason the next year or this past batch of games in 04 with the ESPN name on them.... the Servers were totally infested with Lag and Un-Playable! They got so WORSE it's not funny!!! WHY??? Cough up some fricken $$$ Sega and get the servers working if you want to compete with EA dammit!!! Or I'm done with supporting Sega for good. Seems like every time you support Sega and give them a shot... they end up screwing ya. This is it for me... Sega will burn me no more! If the Servers suck for these ESPN 2005 games, I'm done with Sega... and I'll make [***] sure to spread the word about how Sega has F'd us again. Get the Servers FIXED NOW!!!

STFU kid, the servers are fine. They do a much better job than EA does with MVP Baseball. If you dont like how it is then dont play anymore or deal with it. Whichever you choose please choose to stop whining like a little girl.

Most of the lag isnt even bad. If you play enough you get used to the free throw lag.

Seriously man, you need to chill out a bit. The gaming mags, media don't care cuz I have a strong feeling they ain't playing this game online anymore. And I'm not 100 percent sure, but isn't an online match between two ps2's and not run on a server? I could be wrong, but either way, if you got a good broadband connection for both sides, you shouldn't be experiencing that horrible of a lag. CHILL DA **** OUT.

No doubt :D The freethrow lag is kinda fun once you get used to it
You have to time it just right.

I dunno if i'd call the lag fun, but it gets pretty easy when you get used to it. It always messes me up when I play a game against someone else after i had just played online. My timing gets all messed up and I cant shoot throws right till like the end of the 3rd. Im about a 90 percent ft shooter online.

This is completely true. This needs to be fixed immediately. I'm an "Old schooler" from back in the day when NBA 2k1 first came out online. Then, when NBA 2k3 was released for PS2 online, everything was great. Speedy gameplay using a broadband connection.

I bought NBA 2K4 on the day that it came out. First thing I did was go home and went online. I couldn't believe how bad the lag was! I thought that it was a fluke so I played a couple of offline games, then went back online, and still had the crappy lag. I then decided that I'd play back online in a couple of days.... and... you guessed it.... LAG.

Needless to say, I thought this problem would be fixed but even today, the lag is still the same as it was from day one.

This is an issue that definitely needs to be addressed as it completely destroyed the online experience for me. Can anyone tell me if the lag is this way on the XBOX?

The whole year, every year, the only game i really look forward to is the NBA 2K series. I'm willing to dish out the money for XBOX Live if its always going to be like this on PS2.

I agree with the original poster 100% and hope this issue gets fixed.
