NCAA gets 8.5? Ummm no. The demo is garbage!
Apart from a nice starting 3-d menu, what else is there to the game?
Even more insulting is how All Pro manages to get such a lower score in comparison.
How can a game that is essentially 2k5 lose to NCAA?

Reviews are never worth more than the paper or pixels you read upon which you read. Think about it this way. Movies have gotten horrid reviews, yet for some reason a lot of people still love them! The same goes for music, books and games!
a 6.5 is nice to see... "WHAT?!" you may ask.... well, I think about it this way. A lot of people will avoid it because of that rating. Where will they go? Madden... Good riddance.
As long as we have a good community of loyal (non-cheeser) 2K fans.... life will be good:)

well thats true.
but its just that when ppl see those ratings they are being pushed back into the darkness (madden)
and they might never get back out to see the light (apf)

NCAA is actually really good. the demo is crap, but the full game isnt. how All Pro got such a low score is beyond me. i think the game is great.

meh, I never look too much into these ratings. While I do use it as a gauge, its never a determining factor of whether or not I will get the game. There have been plenty of instances where a magazine or a website has rated a game low, and I ended up liking it and vise versa. The only thing I pay attention to in the reviews are the FACTS about the game itself. (ie, what you can and cannot do, what features are there, etc), the ratings are based on the opinions of others and just because one person likes/dislikes a game won't necessarily mean that would be the case for me. Of course Madden sheep and fan-boys will say its just a cop out to say rating don't matter, but whatever, I have always been like that. Perfect example a game magazine gave Splinter Cell : DA for the 360 a real high mark, and I personally thought the game sucked and ended up trading it back in for the reg XBOX version.
All that matters is if the gamer likes the game, if he/she does, then they can pretty much wipe their you know what with the reviews. In fact I'm more inclined to listen to other gamers who I "talk" to on message boards when it comes to "rating" a game.

because they have limited game modes

well i kinda knew apf wasnt going to review basically those gamesites base their scores off certain standards that have been in past football games, so w/o a franchise it lowers the score, but screw 1up this game is the greatest

Lol your the idiot for judging a game based on the DEMO.
The menu is the only thing to the game? How about campus legend, new scouting system, dynasty mode, coach mode and all that.
Your talking about NCAA not having alot in the game compared to APF? APF has online and season....THATS IT, NCAA has a ton, why dont you play the actual game if your gonna judge it not based off the demo.

Did you disagree with any of his points in the review? I didn't, really. I think the scores are too far apart but that's mostly because they put such a big emphasis on the different game modes, and in that category NCAA blows APF away.
The people on this site have said that gameplay is all that matters to them. Well, if you read the review, it seems like even the reviewer would say this is the game for you if that's how you feel. The thing is, most people don't think that way. They want a full experience, and the multiple game modes and real stadiums and all that stuff gives it to them. If you don't care for that stuff then I think you'll like APF a lot more than NCAA, because the gameplay on APF is still better.
The number at the end isn't the whole review. If he was reviewing it for hardcore online gamers the numbers would likely be different, but he's reviewing it with more of an emphasis on game modes and features that add to mass appeal. Just my two cents.

Maybe the guys at 1UP suuuuuck at playing a REAL football game, and then maybe they go frustrated. Heck, there is even a chance that they are all cheesers and prefer the EA iteration more. you know, run the same plays over and over and over again. Fine with me. Ill still be sitting here playing my 2K.

Did you read the review or just look at the scores? Because they were quite complementary about the gameplay. The low score was because of the lack of other game modes. If you don't care about other game modes and just play online or head-to-head then APF is definitely for you.

*Sigh*, kids these days, saying Bryant is better then Jordan, A-Rod over Mays, and the worst of all, Vince Young over Steve Young.

I understand you have to read the whole review and I did. He expressed issues in limted modes. Generally it seemed like he just didn't dig the game much. To be honest, the score at the end is at least consistant with how he felt about it.
But 6.5? Damn.

The other game gets 7.5 and higher without franchise. All the reviewers say it makes shows off the prettiness that the console can do. 2K8 has no franchise and makes your next gen controller feel like it should with great gameplay. 1up just put too much on features. In the 8 bit days all you had was gameplay then some other features just maybe. Hopefully we get some real reviews soon.
It isn't easy to trust them though. I remember IGN said that one of the 2Ks footbals was too arcardy and that Madden was real. Then the next year they said Madden was just right while 2K was too serious of a football game and not just anyone can play it. Strange.

Do you have any specific gripes about what the review said? Does anyone? Was it inaccurate? I think the score is too low, but they gave a rationale for it - they were basing it heavily on game modes and features, which APF lacks. It seems to me like an unbias review, but one that is made for a different audience than the one who frequents this site, that's all. It said the gameplay was exceptional, which is what everyone here says is all they need.

It is the score that has everyone up set. Other games are said to be pretty horrible by reviewers and get the score the you expected from what you read.

Campus Legend Mode, where you can take a legend from high school to the pro draft.
Mini games.
A massive dynasty/franchise mode.

the ability to view the play and your players is goofy when you're trying to survey the field pre-snap (guys on the far side of the screen aren't in the picture, even if you're playing on a wide screen), and there's no way to pan the camera.
Am I missing something? Im pretty sure I can look at everyone on the field (all the way to WRs) (??)
It makes some decent points, but it's a low score.
Also, he says something about Barry Sanders dancing, and being out of place.... isn't it out of place that these guys are playing together wearing, like, a Snake of their greeen jerseys!?

I'm through with the HS playoffs and I've done a few practices in college so far in my campus legend mode and it's pretty tight. A little more customization of your jerseys and stuff would be cool but it's only four games.
Also, the video and photo highlights are an awesome addition to the game. These are the kind of innovative ideas I like to see.

Now I have a question for all of you. I plan on buying APF 2morrow, and if this game sucks, you all in this forum will here it, likewise, if this game is good you will here it also. If I say this game sucks 2morrow, alot of the fanboys are gonna dog me, frankly I dont give a s!!t, its my opinion. So you should review the game for yourself because this game might not be for everybody. APF got a 6.5, so what its their opinion. You guy make it seem like its the end of the world or something.

You hit it on the head - this game isn't for everyone. If you're a football sim junky, and just want to play head-to-head and online, it's for you. If you're looking for a deeper set of features and game modes, or if you don't play on line much or at all, you might want to reconsider unless it really is all about the gameplay for you. I'm still going to rent it from gamefly, but it's looking less and less likely that I'll buy it. I'm happy with NCAA so far. The gameplay isn't perfect, but it's solid enough that the game modes are a lot of fun. I haven't played it online yet.

Anyone remember what 1UP gave 2K5? I seem to remember it being around an 8.. Anyways they are a small time company that is easily persuaded by $$.
6.5 just because of no franchise? Please. People who value franchise that much only play 2 or 3 seasons because once you get to 7 or more seasons just about every real player has retired.
You could have a franchise on 2K8 if you put a little effort in it and kept career/team stats yourself and then keep playing more seasons.
Another thing.. Kinda funny to see all those new members dogging this game. They seem to just have popped up ever since this game was announced.

I remember when a certain juggernaut company released a certain flagship debut on the 360 about 2 years ago. That game didn't even have a practice mode and people wanna dog 2K8 for lack of features? Get real!! You know how games stand the test of time? Gameplay. That's why Tecmo Super Bowl remains in cult status. That's why people still buy 2K5 like it's a new release. Sometimes features are overrated in the core gameplay offers little to sustain itself in the long run. From the brief time I've played 2K8, I can tell that gameplay alone will keep this game fresh for me. Add to that online leagues and you still have a feature that the juggernaut company is yet to attempt. The juggernaut developers are just incapable of releasing a game with this much gameplay, so of course they have to rely on cookie cutter, middle school age features. I mean really, who gets geeked over Superstar/Campus legend mode besides 13 year old kids or 34 year olds trying to relive a dream?

I can see the point with some of you guys of thinks that 1up is right, but the fact that APF got a 6.5 is not right. Though there isn´t many game modes, this game still stands well. A 6.5 is just trashing the game period. When M06 came out with no Franchise it didn´t receive a score that low (if i remember) and this is better. I wouldn´t give the game a perfect score like most people want, but it doesn´t deserve that low of a score. And if anyone believes it does deserve that low of a score, i have to say it, but you are a down right EA fanboy (and i never called someone that). This is still a good game even with the missing options.

6.5 is a ridiculous score, no question. But what's reasonable? A score of 7? 7.5? It comes down to this: VC made the choice to remove or not include certain things that are considered critical to the success of any next-gen game: franchise, top-notch graphics, or even a solid season mode. And because of that, the game is going to take a serious hit from any reviewer.
IMO, all that 6.5 score says is that the reviewer feels the game came up too short in some areas to deserve anything higher. At that point, it doesn't really matter if the score is 6.5 or 7.5. The reviewer is simply saying: This game is incomplete. And I agree. And I also feel VC deserves some of the blame here for the low scores the game is getting. They knew what they were risking by releasing such a barebones game, but they chose to do it anyway.

Quoted for truth.
The score is a bit on the low side IMO, but the game itself is missing too many things for a sucessful next-gen game.
