Anyone else not feeling the graphics?

Ok I went to go pick this game up in much anticipation please do not go on a tirade of i'm an ea fan boy or some type of bs because I am complaining about a game that I have wanted since I heard 2k was coming out with a game, but seriously the gameplay is good what you would expect from 2k but there is no way the graphics are next gen. Who is with me that the graphics are not good and that is a negative about the game? I mean I really was turned off from the graphics I turned the game off within 15 mins. I'm not looking for smart *** remarks I just want to know if people agree with me that the games graphics are subpar. I really think that nfl 2k5 graphics were great and that they would build on those with xbox 360's capabilities however the colors seem weird and the lighting affects are not that great. What do you guys think?

Agree........but I really like what they did with audibles. You can be a d lineman and Move your linebackers side to side kind of like you could move the lineman side to side. And on offense your guards and tackles can do wierd stuff too.

no they didn't make my eyes bleed, but seriously after viewing all those vids in hd I was definitely thinking great with my 62" tv this is going to be great but I turn the game on play for a while and i'm like ok.... what happened i mean looking at nfl 2k5 with the player models and lighting affects they could have done that in hd and the game would have been better graphically but it's just not the same. The game is realistic no doubt but the graphics are really a downer. I want to keep the game.. but it's going to take some time to adjust.

closeups yes I will give it to them they are good but we don't play the game with the closeups because if we did then I would say the game would be on par with mlb 2k7 but the closeups deceive you because your expecting the game to be at least half that good when your playing but its not and my favorite feature from 2k5 was create a cam and it's in but its weird as hell and makes the cam a little off centered even with the angles fixed right. The graphics as far as the field go are not good player models are good but the overall gameplay graphics are not good and I'm not whining but seriously who thought the game play vids looked great in hd and thought it would translate to the final product?

Man I have madden 07 and I can't honestly say that this game has as good or better graphics than madden 07 I'd be lying and I absolutely hate ea for what they did with the license because had they not screwed us all over there would be no all-pro and we'd be getting the full package with graphics and everything from 2k5 but the graphics my dude are not as good madden 07. and call me what ever you want but I have both games and I love 2k but the graphics just suck lets be honest.

You're all bashing the graphics like there's some set precedent for next gen football graphics and there isn't. This game is on par and at some points better than Madden.

Let me positive first in response to the thread at hand: Thank you 2k for attempting to provide your fans with a good game of football! ..... Now my response to the thread, I think it's pretty bad that the graphics are such a dismal representation of your ability, like I was previously saying before when seeing the preview clips, these player models are not good...at all, and the grass on the field looks "very last gen", lighting is not at all impressive, and, even presentation graphics (overlays, intro text, etc.) are second rate, you don't need espn to do cool computer graphics! This is not easily to look past, especially on next-gen gaming consoles. With just graphics, animations, and gameplay you would've no doubt made the best football game out by far. Graphics should have been a priority, PERIOD!!!.

When I first played the game, I thought it looked funny. The camera is closer by default on this game than 2k5. Change your camera to far and the game will feel like your playing 2k5.

During the game water flys off of you when you're hit in the rain, scuffs on the helmets, you can see the mesh of the jerseys. I love the graphics personally.

Graphically it is not perfect, but it still is pretty damn good. The gameplay RAPES Madden. Try dropping back twenty yards and throwing... try throwing while facing the wrong direction... no BS here...

Fields look like crap, but eveyrthing else is pretty tight. The camera angles are phenominal (the cutscene ones).

The legends look very good. Ricky Watters really looks like Ricky Watters, etc. (didn't like Ken Norton all that much, but I could see the resemblence)... some of them look so spot on... Uniform graphics are great as well...

During action the graphics deliver as do the Stadiums etc... It's the close ups during field pass that are pretty hurting and look ugly. I can give it a pass though since the on the field stuff is fine and animates well. I'm liking the game so far and think 2K did a solid job here. But the sequel really needs to dwarf the 2K8 game imo now that they have their ground work set. And that includes nicer graphics and presentation all around.

I didn't hook it up to my Big Screen and I was happy with the graphics.
I had it hooked up to my computer too and it looked better.
What I didn't like was trying to read the text on the screen. It seemed kinda small to me.


I think people need to realize this is the 1st edition of their return so we are not going to get a lot of things we want. I accepted that a long time ago and I think people overhyped up the graphics and animations with speculation and rumors about natural motion.
That is not something you suddenly put into your game. They might be testing it on the side with the development of this game and maybe that is why various things were left out. Who knows, but overall I think the graphics are fine and will get better with 2k9.

since it's 2k im more apt to give them a pass since they have been out of the game a while but whether expectations were high or lower or whatever the game just doesn't cut it with graphics but that's not everything about a game but I think everyone in here can say that we payed 299 399 499 or even 599 for those of you with ps3's for superb graphics and not just with all pro but madden also the graphics are no where near where these games should be. 2k8 is no exception to the rule either but i mean like I said the gameplay is great now next year if they keep that in place do a complete graphical overhaul we can all be happy.

IMO the graphics in APF aren't that impressive during gameplay, but they look good during replays and cut scenes. As always the players look more realistic than Madden's. Madden has nice colors and textures, but they always look very cartoonish.

Graphicswise this game is a mixed bag, it reminds me of nfl 2k6, some of it looks stunning, and other parts are pretty meh. Players look great, officials, not so much. There's some pretty weak textures in some of the stadiums, and the fields are really nothing special. However, the animations put Madden to shame. As one of my opponents last night said, they actually look human in motion.

I could try and do that for you I know how to its whether I have time or not but I popped in my madden 07 to compare the graphics of 2k and I also told my friend who bought all pro also to do the same and as much as we really hate EA for doing this to all of us madden 07's graphics are better. My team is the cowboys and the lighting affects in our stadium are nice and the game is more brighter than 2k I just don't think that they tried hard with the graphics because most of what we talk about is their gameplay but I'm with the guy and the xbox 1 graphics man the grass looks like the grass in all star baseball 03

you do understand that we do not play on replays like I've said before you can do the same on any game go play nba 2k7 and zoom in on the graphics they look crazy.... even on old xbox in nba 2k5 with the field of vision cameras you could tweak the graphics were great but we don't play on replays we play on regular gameplay cameras and the gameplay graphics just aren't good sorry to beat a dead horse but I've tried to convince myself just like the rest of you that the graphics are ok but why are we lying to ourselves we know the truth. Agreed. The visuals are pretty poor. Definitely not what we were expecting from 2k on the 360 and PS3. And I think we should hold them to their own standard and stop making excuses. If you look at this game then look at The Bigs, MLB 2k and that new Hockey game this game isn't even in the ball park :(

I am so glad that we all can have a freakin intelligent conversation about the graphics in my thread and this forum without having stupid people come in saying we are fan boys yea we are fan boys fan boys of good football games. I wouldn't say this game was a disappointment but it reminds me a lot of madden 06 in that so much of the things we were use to were stripped out... and the effort seemed lack luster. All along we were thinking 2k was working real hard we were getting pretty screen shots and good hd gameplay vids but really they were not gameplay vids because the vids I seen on IGN were very pretty graphcially but on my 62" hd tv they are terrible and I even tried maxing it out that did not work either but i'm glad I'm not the only one

Its obvious graphics were not the main focus of this game . And are lacking in some areas. Im assuming they needed the time to rebuild the engine and reformat everything.

I like all of the features they added to the gameplay though. Formation shifts on offense, protection schemes on offense, Coverage shells on D, Front shifts (although these are messed up) on D. New defensive hot routes. All of that stuff is great. But the graphics are poor :( The grass is straight ugly. The player models could use some work, but they are not too bad. The grass makes everything appear ugly though. Lastly, the visuals in the replay mode = ownage. If the real time graphics were that way, along with 3D grass we wouldn't even be having this conversation I don't think. But unfortunately that's not where the game is .

The one thing I hate the MOST though is how small the lettering is for the receivers? I got a nice rig and the text still seems to be to small.

I am going agree with the fact that this thread has been pretty good, and pretty thoughtful...

Obviously what we are debating here is opinion. I agree that maybe there are some kinks in the graphic representation of football. For instance, I think the player models are somewhat small... like lineman are HUGE in real life and not so much in the game. They also look a little polygonal from afar when they move... Also, unless you play in replay mode, I dont want to hear about jersey's etc because that isn't noticeable on regular camera angles in real life.

But I do think the game did real nice job with clarity. I think its very close to 2k5 in actual players and animations (although even better in 2k8). But it is very bright and chrystal clear overall. Standium and sideline details are top notch. Grass is not that impressive, but not that bad.

Overall I am more than happy. I will probably never buy a Madden game again. The game is about real football and it does a nice job of depicting real football. Linemen run down field and block on screens, you can legitimately run counters and they have much improved AI on Defense. This part blows Madden out of the water.

Bottom Line: Pretty good game, I'm going to play the silicon out of this game. Still some things to improve but that's fine by me. If some of the graphical elements ruin the game that badly for you, that's okay, you are more than welcome to have your own opinion.

It doens't ruin the game for me because I have been playing it Emmit smith is crazy good on my team and being the cowboys fan I am thats pretty cool but it does leave me wanting more because of 2k's track record with graphics and gameplay. They have always done a great job of mixing both. As for lacarious you don't belong in this thread because mostly everybody has been mature and expressed themselves intelligently instead of being just off the wall like yoursef. Man I have madden 07 and I can't honestly say that this game has as good or better graphics than madden 07 I'd be lying and I absolutely hate ea for what they did with the license because had they not screwed us all over there would be no all-pro and we'd be getting the full package with graphics and everything from 2k5 but the graphics my dude are not as good madden 07. and call me what ever you want but I have both games and I love 2k but the graphics just suck lets be honest.

For all of you who claim that the graphics in 2K8 "Suck", I think that you need a little perspective. Don't get me wrong, as with most things, I believe that there is room for improvement, but saying that the graphics suck is a huge overstatement and to be honest, just plain silly. I have been playing Madden for 2 years with no semblence of a real football experience to be had. The graphics in this game are easily as good as Madden 07 and the gameplay and presentation of this game are so far ahead of Madden that it should be embarassing to the numbnutz' over at EA. 2K8 makes madden look like you filmed one of those old metal, vibrating football games and sold it for 60 bucks.

Having both games and understanding where you come from with madden 07 gameplay being as poor as it is. I have to give it the edge in graphics as far as gameplay goes. If we are talking about the replay graphics all-pro hands down, cut scenes all-pro hands down, but on the field I gotta give the edge to madden the lighting is better and even though I thought the grass was pretty ugly in madden 07 its even better, I just think my and your beloved 2k could have came a little stronger on graphics because we already know that the gameplay is a given with any 2k game.

Graphics... I've heard enough. This game is amazing along with the graphics...here's why.

-There is soooo much going on in this game. Everything from the crowd all looking like individuals, to the packed sidelines, the refs, the nets, anamations, sideline player interaction, commentating....everything. All this in their first attempt at the "next gen" we should be happy it looks as great as it does. This game is ALIVE.

I love this game, I mean LOVE it, I played for about 15 hours yesterday on my off day, the gameplay is fantastic. But you are dead on with this, there is a noticeable difference between the gameplay graphics and the replay/cutscene graphics. It doesn't really bother me one bit, but it is the truth.

What are replay/cutscene graphics? The two terms have very different meanings. Don't group them into one word to try and make your ill-informed point.

Obviously these are zoomed in during replay when you pause the game, but if you actually played the game with custom camera settings at this zoom level then this is what it would look like. Of course you won't see this level of detail from a camera 50 yards away. That's how eyesight works in reality unless you can see like a hawk. The further back we are the less detail there is. So, there is no denying it: with an HDTV the graphics are THIS good. With an SDTV I don't know how it looks because I don't have one. According to everyone complaining in this thread it looks awful.

I was differentiating those types of views from actual gameplay action, not lumping them into one thing, since you don't seem to comprehend it. And I'm playing on an HDTV, and yes, the game does look that good when you're in between plays. But during gameplay in my opinion it isn't as good. It looks like as someone else said, a polished xbox game. It's based on what I see with my own eyes on my own equipment, so it cannot be "ill-informed", I'm not saying, "Oh I heard it looks like this", which could be ill-informed, I'm telling you that's what I see.

The player details are awesome but the stadium and some edges could use better Anti Aliasing. Everytime I say that its seems to **** peeps off... Sorry about the ignorant kiddies on the board -just ignore them really. I did anticipate better graphics in the game environment but am pleased with the level of details on the players.

Got a brand new Sony 46", running in 720p. I have seen a couple of comments that people think the game looks better at 1080i, so I may try that when I get home. And I'm not really complaining, the important stuff is definitely 'in the game', but it's sometimes jarring when the game transitions from the gameplay in motion to the other bits.

I used to run my Fios (TV) and my Xbox at 720p because I've heard it is better than 1080i. Then I switched to 1080i and both looked infinitely better. You have to find what works best for your TV, but I recommend 1080i.
For the record: 1080p isn't really that much different from 1080i, regardless of what the manufacturers want everyone to believe.

The weather affects are terrible, the crowds look fantastic.Im not big on maddens grass, I think its over done, however 2k8's could have been better. I think the player models need updated. Remember, this 2K's first year of producing this game, and I think the thing they are trying to strive for is overall game features and creativity

Then, probably with 2010 comes out that they will gradually improve everything..

I really don't think the graphics are bad, not perfect, but that is to be expected for the first time..

However, the animations really do stand out.. I love the animations!!!

Actually, you want to see really good graphics, don't play any team, put the both teams on CPU and just watch the game...

I haven't played the game yet cuz my 360 broke but let me say this in defense of 2ksports. at the 05 360 launch, mlb 2k6, nba2k6, college hoops 2k6 came out who's graphics were poor but look at how they responded. If this game is but a trial to see how the public would respond to a new football product to counter EA, then can you only imagine what they can and most assuredly WILL do come next year if there is a APF 2k9. Granted, your compliant is warranted but keep things in perspective, after all you are messing w/ a company who obviously cares about customer satisfaction.

The graphics really came to life for me when I moved the 360 from my 51" projection HDTV to a 22" Widescreen Samsung LCD. IMO, it's the best looking football game yet !! That includes both of the previous Madden games and the NCAA titles on the 360.

Yes, especially linemen. I know some of them are smaller (guys from the 60's who weighed 250 which was the huge at the time) but other guys are way off. Reggie White? Jerome Brown? They're pretty thin. Another one that stands out is Daryll Johnston; that guy was a beast and he looks like a wide receiver in the game.

Barry that could very well be the case, (anythings possible these days with big companies). However, this is a very subjective issue based on each individuals personal preference and not really on facts. A fact is that an abnormal amount of 360s are failing, the PS3 version only plays at 30fps. I personally don't care for the graphics and I know we have seen some great pictures posted of peoples TV's. My only concern, which was echoed by other forum members was that those shots were not made in "real time" and possibly during replays or cut scenes. I don't know for a fact and i'm not here to prove otherwise. For those that hate the guys at Redmond, all I can say is "it's hard to judge a future product before it's been released, even based on past experience. For example, Hyundai were considered cheap, throw away cars when they first entered the market. Now I wouldn't consider them on the level with Toyota or Nissan but they make some decent vehicles now. Any company can turn a product around and make it successful. The same goes for Harley Motorcycles. People bought them early on based on "image" alone but most riders actually spend more time fixing and tweaking the damn things instead of riding them. Harley almost went out of business but changed their business model and refined their engineering. Now you could easily spend $20k on one.
