tonight after checking some of my stats. I have a franchise going just for the fun of it with my team Nashville I am 1-6-1-0 lol I know. I also have a season going with no injuries for season pratice where I am 3-2-0-0 In both of these my poor goalie has a LOT more shot against him than any other team. Like in my season where I have played 5 games I think it is 190 or so shots against. other teams ar getting around 30 to 35 shots off. now I was wondering, my defence will it get better in time as my scoring on the comp has. or is it just Nashville? I think it has alot to do with me and my skills or lack there of at the defence in this game.
ao if ya'll want to let loose some tips there then thats cool with me. lol

Get in passing lanes and learn your L2 and R2 buttons (PS2 advanced controls). Don't rely on hitting to be your only defense. Make sure to use triangle to clear the puck from your zone. Look for open players, not just the guy with the puck. In this game the goalie can handle players one on one, so concentrate on the open men and clog the passing lane so that the computer can't pass the puck to him.
A good thing to do is watch the game more then just play it. Watch how the computer stops you from making moves. You can do whatever they do, so learn from the whippins they give you. Make sure you play positional hockey. If you have a left winger then keep him in the left winger position. Moving players out of position will cost you in this game.

Yeah, all that sounds good. I have the "classic" controls down. But I guess I do neeed the advanced to have more options.
Thanks alot Nickels

position, position, position..... I know for me, the second I let one of mey D get out of position I get scored on. I use R2 all the time..... especially when you need to cut off a passing lane, and it works well along with triangle (poke check) for disrupting shots......
I have had a couple times where I'll block a shot and my goalie will react and get caught though, so it isn't compltely fool-proof..... The best advice though, is that the only guy that should be anywher eon the ice is your center..... the other guys need to play their sides, corners, etc....

great, thx for the input. But what do you mean by using R2 alot? I am using the XBOX version so if you can tell me what your R2 is doing I'll know what you mean. Is it block or something?

yeah, it's called 'shot block/knee drop' in the manual. the dman will drop to his knee and block the pass or shot. but it does take him a few ticks to recover so you have to be careful.
so when do you use L2? it's supposed to grab the puck out of the air, but i have that set to auto. so what do you use it for?
also, i was wondering if you you the deke move? (L1 + O, release O)
i have NEVER scored with it, so if it works for you, can you explain how to use?
