PRO FOOTBALL LEAGUE ANNOUNCED
August 14, 2006

Brad Goodman, the longtime commissioner of the NFL who resigned this past week due to lack of fan support, announced today that he would be forming a new league for the 2007-08 season. The PFL will feature players from the past, using today's technology to make that happen. "There will be 24 teams of two conferences, the Atlantic and the Pacific, broken up into subdivisions, the North, Central, and South," he stated. "Players will be randomly assigned to teams, chosen by ping pong balls, like the NBA draft. Commissioners of the teams will have total control of the team's nicknames, uniforms, logos, coaches, etc."

Competition to the NFL? Could it overtake the NFL as the number one football league in the world? Or will it become the XFL and fall flat on its face? The league starts September the 9th, 2007. Teams will be chosen on September 9th also, of this year.

Well the only thing I have is a camera phone. I'll definately put some pics up when I find my damn charger. Videos not sure about. I might buy the reelmaker thing and I could make some highlights there for all of you to see.

I did this yesterday too, and I'm thinking about changing my team around before I play the first game (might pick Johnny Unitas or Barry Sanders, etc)

Nah I don't play online. A lot of people have recreated the New York Nightmares, and that's one of the reason I might change my team.

Ok so like I predicted, I changed my team. Some of the players on the teams in the league may be a bit mixed up, because things switched around when I changed teams. Nothing big though.

THE BREAKDOWN

Obviously an offense oriented team, with a hard throwing QB throwing to a great possession receiver and also a big deep threat. With Sanders running the ball and two great tackles, this offense will definately score. The defense won't blow you away with their stars, but they can do a lot. They have a big pass rusher in Manley and two run stuffers, as well as two guys who can defend the pass. Expect big things from this team.

The Philadelphia Liberty will square off against the Detroit Firebirds in their first ever game. The Firebirds aren't projected to do v ery well this season (with no gold players). They have 4 silver players, Joe Delamelleure, Tom Mack, Chris Warren, and Billy Joe Dupree. Expect an easy win for the Liberty.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(0-0) Philadelphia Liberty @ (0-0) Detroit Firebirds

How will the Liberty fare in their opening game?
September 9, 2007

First Quarter
The Liberty forced Detroit to punt in the first possession of the season, as they didn't gain a single yard. Philly didn't do much better, gaining less yards. Nothing doing on the first two plays for the Liberty on their second drive (following a 3 and out by the Firebirds), but on third down and long Harper came up big with a huge gain, being tackled at the 1. Barry easily took it in on first down for Philly to go up, 7-0. On the last play of the quarter, Lynn Dickey misjudged his pass, and LB Killian capitalized, jumping the pass and taking it to the house.

Second Quarter
On the first play of the second quarter, Billy Joe Dupree took a simple reception accross the middle, broke some tackles, and turned it into a 78 yard touchdown, cutting the lead to 14-7. After some Barry runs, Coach Del Fio decided to call a play action corner route to his star WR. Cunningham rolled out and tossed it to the open Raymond Berry, who stopped on a dime while the Detroit defender flew by, and it was off to the races for a 59 yard touchdown. "I knew they'd be expecting the run," said Del Fio at halftime. "So we needed to get it to our Ray (Berry) and I knew he could make things happen."
Alvin Harper caught a one handed catch at the very edge of the sideline to keep the next drive going. The play was challenged (rightfully so) but stood. Barry Sanders pounded the ball the rest of the way, leading to a Randall Cunningham scramble to take a 28-7 lead at the half.

First Half Stats
T.O.P.: 6:59 - 5:01
Rushing: 16 - 60
Passing: 105 - 147
Total: 121 - 207
First downs: 3 - 5

Third Quarter
Philadelphia took a gamble on 4th and 1 with a FB run, but it didn't prevail, giving Detroit the ball in their territory. The Firebirds capitalized on another Dupree touchdown. Barry Sanders was fantastic though, as the first play following Lem Barney's kick return to midfield resulted in a Sanders-esque run. He took the pitch to the weak side, outran one diving defender, spun the safety out of his shoes, and jogged in for the score. Detroit kicked a field goal to make the score 35-17.

Fourth Quarter
Philadelphia drove down the field with ease in the start, entering the redzone. But the first play in the redzone - a draw play to Sanders - resulted in a rare fumble, recovered by the Firebirds, giving them hope. They were putting together a nice little drive - until a holding penalty brought back a key first down. The Liberty capitalized, and Eugene Robinson stepped in front of his receiver to pick it off at midfield. Barry bounced one outside and followed his blockers for a 30 yard gain to the 1 before being swarmed by 6 Firebirds on the next play. The Liberty couldn't capitalize though, and had to settle for a FG. The Liberty were running out the clock, when Sanders scored his third touchdown, this time a 25 yard gallop inside. Too little too late by Detroit, and Philly easily took home the win.

The Liberty will travel to Pittsburgh to take on the 1-0 Iron Men, led by Dan Marino and 2 gold star offensive linemen and a great TE(Russ Grimm, Jim Otto, **** Butkus). Lenny Moore is their RB, and it should be a great battle of the offenses. The Iron Men beat up on the New York Knights in week 1, winning 45-12 at home.

(1-0) Philadelphia Liberty @ (1-0) Pittsburgh Iron Men

A WILD WEST SHOOTOUT...IN PENNSYLVANIA!

First Quarter
Dan Marino picked apart the Liberty defense on the first play of the game, completing a 29 yard pass to Mike Ditka. They couldn't continue that though, forced to settle for a coffin corner punt. Things fell apart on the first play of Philly's possession, as a run to the outside turned disastrous when Barry Sanders was leveled by a lineman, fumbling it and the Iron Men recovering it for a touchdown. Coach Del Fio stated, "We should have been dominating their starless defense from the get-go, and we needed to start off well. That didn't happen." Nothing doing for either of the offenses on the next two possessions. The Iron Men punted it away (from their own endzone), seemingly giving Philly good field position. But wouldn't you know it, Lem Barney fumbled the punt and Pittsburgh recovered. The Iron Men scored on the next play on a draw for 60 yards.
The Liberty put together a nice drive, mixing passing plays with runs. It ultimately ended up in a 16 yard sweep to the sideline run by Barry Sanders, who flat out outran every defender to the pileon. 14-7 at the end of the quarter.

Second Quarter
The defense came up big on the ensuing possession, as Eugene Robinson stuffed a toss play for a loss of 6 on first down, and on second down dove to knock down a 30 yard pass to Ditka. Halfway through the quarter, the Liberty scored again following a sack to force a three and out. This time, it was set up by a beautiful leaping, rollout pass to Raymond Berry at the 1 yard line. Cunningham then tossed a swing pass to Barry Sanders (caught it one handed), who dove in for his second score. When it seemed Philly would stop Pittsburgh's drive into the redzone, a late hit penalty gives the Iron Men a first down. Mike Ditka caught another pass and broke two tackles to put the Iron Men up 21-14 at the end of the half.

Third Quarter
Lenny Moore caught a 60 yard touchdown pass for the Iron Men to start off the second half, extending the lead to 14. On the legs of Barry Sanders, the Liberty drove down the field, ending with a touchdown pass to TE Ebenezer Konrad for 11 yards. The defense came up with a big stop at midfield on 3rd and 2 to force a punt.

Fourth Quarter
Raymond Berry came up with a huge catch just before midfield to start the quarter. Randall Cunningham was under pressure, and lobbed one up for Berry in between 4 defenders, and he somehow came up with it. Unfortunately they couldn't keep the drive going and were forced to punt. With 2:20 remaining, the Liberty got the ball back. On 4th and 7 with under two minutes left, Philadelphia needed a big play from a big player. "I knew we'd go to him," said Cunningham afterwards on the sideline. "He's such a big time receiver for us, and he can make things happen." Raymond Berry caught the the ball on the crossing route (while everybody else was going the opposite way), and crossed the first down marker, running out of bounds. Again they faced 4th down, this time 4th and 9. Culpepper was sacked for a big loss, and the Iron Men came away with the victory.

Notes: Mad hard game. Ditka caused huge matchup problems and I had to put Barney on him. Stupid fumbles killed me too. Guess Pittsburgh rules Pennsylvania. I'll have a reel up on Reelmaker called "Iron Men vs. Liberty"

Did you create players for this league if so how many and how many can be created? How many user teams can be created? In Season Mode did you edit or change anything to put people in different conferences?
I took a created Steeler team and put all Steeler Legends on it and was going to do that with some other teams and load them into a season with their legends, but it seems it will only let you load 1 user team? Is that true?
I think it randomly scrambles the players after you chose Season Mode on the teams...So anything I do gets undone EXCEPT on my 1 user team.
I would love to hear as other I'm sure from Chestnutz6 on how you set this up in the game to make it work?

Well all I did was pick legends (NO created guys at all in the league) and started a season. None of the teams were rearranged, as you can't do that. The teams are all preset (like Elway and Rice will always be on the Legends, unless you have them on your team then they're replaced).

I'm playin on all pro, regular sliders. I'm not too good at the game haha but I'm good at writing stories. =D

(1-1) Philadelphia Liberty @ (2-0) New Jersey Assassins

Can Philly Bounce back against Young & co.?

First Quarter
The rain was pounding in New Jersey to start the game, meaning the Assassins should have trouble with their passing attack. The Liberty received the kick, and from there went to work. They made the Jersey D look silly, never having to face a third down. The drive ended on a 7 yard pass to the sideline to single-covered Raymond Berry.
Predictions were proven right on the Assassins' first possession, as a Steve Young pass was deflected by a Dan Saleaumua while he was under pressure, and a LB picked it off. Philly ended up kicking a 44 yard FG to make the lead 10-0.
On the first play, Steve Young rifled a pass to Bobby Mitchell, who took it to the house, breaking two tackles to cut the lead to 3.
Again Philadelphia drove down the field with ease, one key play being a FB run on 3rd and inches, and another being a big PA pass to Berry to get them down to the 5. Coach Del Fio called a toss play to counter all the guys Jersey pinched in. The result was an easy walk in TD for Mr. Sanders on the last play of the first quarter.
"That was the kind of first quarter we needed," said Berry. "New Jersey couldn't stop our offense. When our passing game and Barry (Sanders) get going, nobody can stop us." 17-7 at the end of the first.

Second Quarter
On the first play of the second quarter, Steve Young made another horrible mistake. SS Rich Killian got his second interception of the season, as Young thought he had his WR open with a blitz coming. The pass slipped from Young's hands though and was overthrown, and Killian made a leaping grab.
Unfortunately the Liberty couldn't capitalize, but on the punt from the NJ 40, the ball went out of bounds at the 1 yard line. This led to great field position at the NJ 37 for Philly following a 3 and out.
On 3rd down and goal from the 9, Cunningham rolled out from the shotgun formation and threw it to the crossing Berry for his second touchdown grab, making the score 23-7. The strong wind pushed the extra point far right, and it was missed.
You thought they were done? Think again. The Liberty forced a 3 and out, then Cunningham went to work in the two minute drill. On the second play of the drive, Del Fio sent his star receiver downfield. The CB guarding Berry was completely dumbfounded as Berry blew right by him and was uncovered deep downfield for a 61 yard touchdown, his third of the half!!! Berry enthusiastically exlaimed, "Let's get some more!!!"
Nothing more for them, but on their first play the Assassins threw a bomb and Nick Carter caught it for a TD, cutting the lead to 30-14.
Wait wait wait. Could it happen again? No way right? Well on THEIR first play, Cunningham threw a bullet corner pass to who else but Berry. He broke two tackles and took it to the house for 63 yards.
That's right, 20 points scored in the last MINUTE of play. The last pass of the half by Steve Young was tipped and intercepted by Lem Barney, but he couldn't return it all the way.

Key Halftime Stats
Total yards: 277-146 PHI
Turnovers: 0-3
Rushing yards: 76-9 PHI
Barry Sanders averaging 7.6 yards per carry.
Steve Young throws 3 INT, and Cunningham throws 4 TDs.
Berry has 6 catches for 164 yards and 4 TDs.

Third Quarter
The third quarter was very boring. Most of the time the Liberty just wound down the clock with Sanders until they punted. On a long drive, it seemed Philly would finally stop New Jersey, but a late hit call on Eugene Robinson (on Young) gave them a first down and kept the drive going, until the quarter concluded with the ball in the redzone for the Assassins.

Fourth Quarter
On 3rd and 5 from the 6 yard line, Young threw right to his TE, who was wide open but his momentum carried him out of bounds literally inches away from the first down marker. For some reason, the Assassins decided to play it safe and kicked the FG.
Philly couldn't take advantage of their field position either following the onside kick recovery, and kicked away the field goal from 41 yards out. The score was then 40-17.
On the ensuing drive, Lem Barney jumped in front of the WR and intercepted the Steve Young bullet. His second pick of the game, and Young's 4th.
The Liberty took some time of the clock, but were faced with 4th and 4, and attempted a 49 yarder, but it was well short with the wind against their face.
Steve Young connected on a pass with Bobby Mitchell, and outran the two generic CBs to the endzone to make the score 40-24.
Could either team score again? Well, no.

Post Game
"I'm happy with the win," said Del Fio afterwards. "But our defense was atrocious. We can't just let up that late in the game. Our defense needs more attitude, something on its shoulders to elevate their play."

What smokies? Confusing post.

I know Cincy haha. I was hoping you'd post your season, and I think I'm the first one to do it on any forums I go to (OS and gamefaqs are the others). I'll read yours for sure.

Reel will be up sometime tonight, called "Liberty Week 3"
More stats about week 3 will also be up tonight.

Haha damnit, fixed it.

First of all Rodskin, no need to be such an *****. It's called a story. Ever read a Madden franchise story or NBA 2k association? What it is is you write it in the form of a newspaper or someone's perspective (usually a coach), and you follow the person's season. It's a good read (for most people, I guess). So yeah, stfu please.

UP NEXT FOR THE LIBERTY: OHIO RED DOGS

Philadelphia will play the last game of their 4 game away trip in Ohio. Greg Landry is the quarterback, and he's doing quite well this year with 7 TD and 3 INT, with a near 100 passer rating.
Curt Warner will be the running back for the Red Dogs, and he's been a wrecking ball, breaking 41 tackles and averaging 4.9 yards a carry.
The main go-to-guy for Landry should be Dante Lavelli, as he has 3 touchdowns and 12 catches for 200 yards.
Ron Mix is the lone "great" player, as he'll be protecting his QB along with Mike Munchack.

(2-1) Philadelphia Liberty @ (2-1) Ohio Red Dogs

First Quarter
Another rainy game for the Liberty. The weather didn't pose much of a problem for Philadelphia last time, so it shouldn't this time, right?
The first play of the game was a screen for the Red Dogs. Curt Warner gained 9 1/2 yards, and on the next two downs was stuffed by the Liberty, forcing a quick punt.
Nothing happened for the rest of the quarter, as each team was stuffed for a while until Philadelphia finally put a drive together, and kicked a short field goal to take the early lead.

Second Quarter
Curt Warner had the first big play of the quarter, busting a 30 yard run near the Liberty redzone. However, they couldn't capitalize as LB Brad Allen came up with a big interception on 3rd down in tight coverage.
Philly rolled down the field on some big runs by Barry Sanders and catches by Raymond Berry. His last catch went down to the 2 yard line, where Barry went to work, scoring on the first play to make the score 10-0.
The Liberty got the ball back :30 later, and with 1:23 remaining, Randall Cunningham went to work. After a dropped pass and sack led to 3rd and long, Cunningham completed a pass to Alvin Harper on the deep out, but came up 2 yards short. Coach Del Fio was faced with a big decision in their own territory, and decided to go for it. It paid off as Cunningham completed a 7 yard pass on the cross to Barry Jenkins. Nothing came of it though, as they ran out of time.

Key first half stats and analysis
1st downs: 8-2 PHI
Total yards: 179-37 PHI
Rush yards: 68-27 PHI
Pass yards: 111-10 PHI
T.O.P: 7:56-4:04 PHI

Total domination by Philadelphia. The key stat is passing yards, as the Red Dogs haven't gotten anything going. In order to come back, Greg Landry really needs to step it up (only a 1.7 QB rating), as does Cunningham (only a 56 QB rating). Lem Barney (2 PD) has completely shut down Dante Lavelli (no catches). Curt Warner has been doing his hardest, but it's hard to run the ball when there is no passing threat.
Look for the Liberty to really take control in the second half and not let this one slip away.

Third Quarter
Following a good return by Lem Barney, the Liberty offense went to work again in the second half. Raymond Berry came up with some big 3rd down catches, and the drive concluded with a corner route catch by TE Bryan Johnston for 18 yards, making the lead 17-0.
The Red Dogs punt on their next possession pinned Philly back at their 6. "No problem, coach," Cunningham stated to Del Fio right before the drive. No problem was right! 94 yards and 13 seconds later, Raymond Berry is outrunning everyone to the endzone. Cunningham hot routed him to a fly pattern, seeing that he was in single coverage and the CB was playing tight. 24-0.

Fourth Quarter
On their first possession of the 4th quarter, Randall Cunningham went back to work, along with his favorite receiver. On 2nd and 12 from midfield, Berry ran a post pattern and caught the bullet pass right between the CB (who was playing him outside) and FS. It was off to the races after he broke the initial tackle by the FS. 31-0.
Ohio went for it on 4th and 6 at midfield on their next possession, and it backfired (although Philly was in their punt formation) as the ball was nearly intercepted, but knocked down with 3 minutes to go.
The Liberty took some time off the clock and kicked away the chip shot field goal, making their lead 34-0.
On the last play of the game, Ohio finally got into the endzone on a long pass play to TE Levy Martin. Final score: 34-7.

Game Stats
Team
Total Yards: 440-160 PHI
Passing yards: 325-136 PHI
Rushing yards: 115-23 PHI
Turnovers: 0-1
T.O.P: 14:00-10:00 PHI

Player
Passing
Cunningham: 122.2 rating, 15-30, 325 yards, 3 TD
Landry: 47.5 rating, 10-29, 136 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Rushing
Barry Sanders: 21 attempts, 117 yards, 5.6 avg, 1 TD, 7 broken tackles
Curt Warner: 12 attempts, 21 yards

Receving
Berry: 10 rec, 277 yards, 2 TD
Alvin Harper: 2 rec, 13 yards
Bryan Johnston: 1 rec, 18 yards, 1 TD
Curt Warner: 4 rec, 30 yards
Martin: 1 rec, 36 yards, 1 TD

Defense
Jeff Offerdahl: 3 tackles
Moreau: 3 tackles
Konrad: 3 tackles
Rich Killian: 4 tackles, 1 assist
A. Fox: 3 tackles, 2 PD
P. Kelly: 2 tackles, 4 assists
T. Kerr and T. Sharps: 4 tackles, 1 assist, 2 PD (both of them)

Analysis: You're sure to win when you have a QB that throws over 300 yards, a receiver that catches over 100 yards (or 200 yards for that matter), and a RB that runs for over 100 yards. Ohio's record deceived a lot of people, but not Del Fio and the Liberty. They showed no mercy out there against the Red Dogs. The Red Dogs only had 2 legends on defense, and it showed. Raymond Berry destroyed the weaker CBs, even in triple coverage. That is why he earns our
2k Legend of the Game: Raymond Berry (10 catches, 277 yards, 2 TD)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UP NEXT: Miami Cyclones

Finally, in week 5, Philadelphia will get to see their second team, the Liberty, play. 2-2 Miami, led by OJ Simpson (440 yards, 4.7 avg, 3 TD through 4 games) comes to town. Surprisingly, OJ hasn't been dominating the run game, but the passing game. He has 27 catches for 535 yards and 6 touchdowns as a receiver. FS Deron Cherry, DE Jerome Brown, and ILB Jack Lambert lead the defense. Bobby Herbert will be the QB, and he's been doing quite well this year, completing 70% of his passes and throwing no interceptions with 11 touchdowns. Should be a great contest.
They lost to Ohio by 7 in the opening game, then beat the weak New York Knights slightly, followed by a close loss to Atlanta and a close win against the Beasts.
