Gametrailers.com has an APF 2K8 video where they show OJ Simpsons playing on a user-created team called 'the assassins'. <click here for video> (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22432.html) And when a touchdown is scored by the Assassins, a big anamatronic assassin moves an arm with a knife.
Thestreet.com has decided to make that into a controversial issue by writing (misleading) story about it. <click here for story> (http://www.thestreet.com/_yahoo/newsanalysis/techgames/10369182.html?cm_ven=YAHOO&cm_cat=FREE&cm_ite=NA)
What do you think?

There is no such thing as 'bad publicity'. ;) If this gets the game noticed I say Go Juice!

My reply to the article:
You do know that OJ's character dosent -by default, play for the Aaassins?...The game allows you to put any player on any team....Take2 cant be responsible if people decide to put him on the Assassins...You can blame DELL if your children decide to surf porn with DELL computers can you?
ps: OJ was found NOT GUILTY. This shouldnt be a controversy.

No such thing as bad press!
I have an autograph from OJ (pre-incident) from when I saw him that says, "Hope you have have a killer day! - OJ"

Those guys are a bit off base with that story. They present it as if Take 2 put OJ on that team.
Our country needs to wake up and focus on the relevant issues facing us, not OJ in a video game based on football, if it were a FPS game called: OJ unleashed and you went around killing things, then maybe I could see the problem. Even then its would JUST BE A GAAAAAMMMMEEE!
Right now our country's present and future position internationally worries more than OJ's touchdown prompting an huge robot to make stabbing motions....
Who is going to run the country when NumbNutz leaves???? Thats another worry, right now I don't see anyone I really feel confident in

That is classic!!!!
I replied to the story also citing that it was the website not Take 2 that created that team with him on it.

Amazing. People choose to put him on a team then make it a huge controversy.

TheStreet.com is well-known for having a bias against Take-Two, so they've decide to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

I don't really understand why they have a stadium with the stabbing motion in the first place for any team. Whether it's OJ or some other player (whether OJ was actually or innocent or not is irrelevant here) scoring and prompting the stabbing motion, I don't see why they would put it in the game in the first place. I'm not trying to start any arguments at all, I'm just curious as to why the makers decided to advertise stabbing something if controversy like this could have been avoided in the first place.

Well there's no way to get into their heads to know for sure, but Take Two doesn't really seem to mind a little controversy. And it always gets people talking about their games in media not normally in the business of talking about games. Which exposes the game to a ton of other people that might not have known about it. Cheap publicity if you can stand a little heat.

Well, they have other stadiums with bees that flap their wings, a phoenix that moves it Talons, Iron workers that hammer an anvil, jets that shoot missiles, etc. The assassin with a knife just went along with that.
Did they put in an anamatronic with stabbing just because OJ is in the game? I doubt it.
Or was this some ingenious marketing plan to create this controversy? I doubt we'll ever know.

I hear what you're saying about it going well, but if this was the case, an assassin probably wouldn't be ideal for this game. I really don't know the details on how they went about choosing the possible team names and stadiums they go with as I don't have this game right now. I don't think they put it in because OJ was in the game either, it's was probably pure coincidence that some 2k-hating people tried to stir up into a controversey on purpose, but maybe it was some marketing plan like you said. lol We may never know, but of course if the scenario wasn't intentional, it could have been sidestepped without the assassins in the game I presume.

Seeing this only makes me want to put OJ on my team when I get the game. :D Is he gold or silver?
I don't know why, but I find the vid is kind of funny; maybe a little controversal, but not really a big deal. The thing that's real funny is everybody trying to make a big deal out of this especially when Take 2 are more than likely not the ones who put OJ on the "Assasins".
That article is BS BTW; just the title of the article just so misleading, its almost comical, "Take-Two Game Has O.J. Simpson -- and a Knife" :rotfl: So Take Two purposely put a knife in the game, just because OJ was in it....hmmm yeah sure. I fully believe Take Two when they say the assasins touchdown animation had nothing to do with OJ's past. Some people will find ANYTHING to ***** about..
