They can keep the whole abilities system, but they still need to bring back ratings.
Not just for the generic players but for the Legends as well. I think the whole thing was just lazy on 2ks part and they didnt have time to do accurate ratings (or franchise) not having rating doesnt add anything to the game excpet maybe simplifying it to- this guy can catch, this guy cant. Football is more complicated than that. The system they have now is more suited for games like Blitz, not sim football.
its an okay game, a GREAT rental. It feels like 2k football , but like a work in progress.
also- is there maximum passing in this game??

How do you say who's better between Montana and Young??? It's pointless. Too many intangibles.
And yes, there is max passing.

how do you say whos better between Gale Sayers and Walter Payton, what a 98 and a 97 because one has better Throw Accuracy, pointless

its not lazy, there is a number system behind all players we just can't see it. its fine the way it is. yes there is maximum pass, at the side select screen click the left thumb stick down. this game is a great football game

Exactly. We are talking about the best of the best of their time. There is no way to give them a number rating because literally all the gold players would be 100, silvers 90 and bronze 80. That makes no sense. I rather abilities. If I need a good LB to stop the run, I'll look for run coverage and/or big hit. Looking at all those ratings now I have to see how high his tackles, awareness and a whole bunch of other crap just to see if he's good.

I disagree. The new rating system is revelutionary IMO. The new system involves a lot more strategy then the number ratings.

i'm not even talking about 1 pt differences or even a 1-100 system. heck 1-5 is deep enough. I'm talking about how do we diffrentiate lets say a HB who is avg at catching and one with NO hands?
i like the idea of less ratings, but there are lots of diiferences between players that goes far deeper than - great at this, avg at that. in an arcade football title, i wouldnt care if ALL of my TEs were avg catchers- but this is sim.
Is it not realistic to have a backup WR with alot of speed? it should be possible- and it shouldnt mean that ALL of my generic WR are fast
I like this game, but 2k gave lame excuses for not having ratings and no franchise. They just didnt have time to implemet the features and i understand that. i'll enjoy this game for now- knowing that 2k9 should have everything.

I see what you're saying...
I wouldn't mind if you could individually pick skills for your generics... ie Deep Threat for 1 WR.
But whatever.

revolutinonary would be if they gave players REAL stats that real scouts go by. And then fit those calculations dynamicaly changing on field. like if a players runs a 4.4, the game will dynamical adjust his speed accoring to turf, fatigue, route. Or factor in a players benchpress into a dynamic strength rating
THATS what i hope they do next year

So very true. Whoever thought of this system at V.C. deserves a high five! I love it. I can't stand the old rating system.

you are all sheep. I am a sim player, and part of SIM is knowing the intricacies of a team. I bet if Madden got rid of ratings everyone would be saying how its gone arcadey.
this game isnt terrible, but its soo shallow that i cant see spending 60$ on it. i'm enjoying it as a rental though
