Does anyone else think that this is the exact same game as 2k5 with only a few refinements???
I mean..COME ON, MAN!!
We waited 3 years..I even bought Madden 06(which still sucks) in hopes of at least seeing something that is actually NEW!
2K sports is by far the leader in sports gaming..but removing cool features like "First Person Football"(which is the closest thing out there to virtual reality..and actually being on the field).I really expected a quantum leap in the programming of that technology to be the future of all sports games..and they removed it completely.
Hopefully the guys at Kush or 2k Sports will come back with that "next generation game" for 2k9..
Until then..i think i'll go back to 2k5 with my updated rosters..with an occasional 2k8 for old skool players..
Thanks. guys...a little..

What does Madden have to do with APF? Should I base my opinion off what someone else puts out?

I think he is saying both companies are living off past greatness and hype now. APF is def not a delivery of what was hyped, same with Madden 06 and 07.

I am wondering what are the people looking for in a game. The only thing that is wrong with this game is that it move slow like madden. It does not move fast like 2k5 but the AI is great you can't ask for nonthing better.

People are looking for a game w/ lasting power which this game lacks. This is a barebones game. I also would like some true next gen graphics.

Me and this dude agree? lol the sky is falling!
You said it best man, this game is barebones, not even a menu, and that sh*t can get confusing @ times. And lets face it there really arent alot of team options.
Next gen graphics are not present thats for sure, but online is perfection as far as no lag, and smooth animation.

I'm happy with it and so are most of those who play I prefer great AI and game play then these other things that don't mean much barebones people have to stop living in a fake world and look close to the game what it is giving us which is a all around great game. But know matter what they some people just won't be please.

it's true. it doesn't seem like they were developing it for all those years. seems more like they read what the fans on these boards wanted and modified 2k5 to meet most of those wishes.
that being said I like the game. i like playing with the old guys cause they're good as opposed who is currently on my fav. team (dolphins). i'm also glad I don't have to fool around with my old xbox anymore and can play a 2k5-like game on 360 and have the benefits of xbox live for 360.

Im happy your happy with it and hope it stays that way But how is this an all around great game? There is online season practice and play now. I dont buy the whole good gameplay and I dont care if the game has any modes concept. Honestly I prefer the gameplay in NFL 2K5 and if Microsoft would make it backwards compatible already i would buy it back.

I really like the game but you can tell there was some rushed development going on here. It really does look like they had a year to make this. Trust me, if they had 3 years on this game, it would be the rawest thing ever. This looks a like a rough draft for a game they're planning for next year and that's where my optimism lies. If there is a game next year, I guarantee more folks will be satisfied. This reminds me of 2k's first next gen try with the MLB and NBA games..the second time around, at least for basketball, was gravy.
I really think the scores they've been receiving have been right on. No way is this an 8.0 or higher. It is a rushed project. We know what 2k can do, and they can do better. Madden will be an 8.3-8.6, and well, they've been playing on the next gen field for 3 years now, so it's expected. I gave EA a pass the first Madden out even with the whole "it's gonna look like the trailer' statement. I'm a patient person and I will give 2k a pass this year.

They DIDN'T have 3 years to make this game, they had 2 at best and if you consider all the work that went into designing the custom team logos and building stadiums and going around trying to sign all the legends to a deal, it was a lot of work. You guys make it sound like making a video game is as simple as making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You should all be grateful 2K made ANY type of game for you especially in the face of total catastrophe. I guess some of you wanted some full blown GIANT release with every single bell and whistle known to man on it. You guys have NO CLUE how hard 2K worked on everything to try and put a smile on your faces.
And most of the guys on these boards are right...the more you play this game the funner and better it feels. Don't ask me why...it just does.
Well anyways, I for one and Happy than a Pig in SHhhugar that I'm playing a 2K Football title right now. This game is a lot of fun if you give it a chance. Maybe you guys can just take it for what it's worth and look forward to the future instead of acting like someone pee'd in your Cheerios.

Spoken like a true online gamer! APF, great game play and all, is maybe the worst offline sports game in the past decade as far as modes, features and options go. There's nothing to it. It's the 2K online gamer's way of saying: Look... APF is NOT like Madden 06 next-gen, and 2K is NOT like EA when it comes to putting out a game that is completely lacking in modes, features and options. Makes everyone feel MUCH better about 2K. I'm there with you dude about 2K5, it's still my favorite game of all-time.
BUT YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO ME ON THIS POINT: 2K8 on SDTV is still giving me as much as 2K5 was because of the online depth. You get to make ur own online team and no person you play online has the same team. New matchups, new uniforms, new playbooks. The depth online is completely new in the sports gaming world.
If you want to knock the offline options, I understand your frustration. BUT PLEASE understand for ONLINE ONLY people like me, who only enjoy playing other humans, this game is probably gonna surpass 2K5 in my mind soon, not only because of online depth... but because they fixed almost ALL the glitches in 2K5.
dont you remember 2K5 online???
1.) Half-time bug
2.) DLing glitch
3.) Corner lobs
4.) QB run cheese
All that is gone PLUS all the new controls. The defense hot routes now include zones and details blitzing. It's so addictive online.

It is out of character for them to take the EA route.
Madden has sucked for years..there never WAS a nex-gen Madden..completely due to EA's "model" for all of their sports games..take an antiquated technolgy and make a few refinements and add some "amazing" ********* feature and call it new or nex-gen..

I think I'm in a good position to answer this since the PS3 is backwards compatible with the PS2, and I played 2K5 until the day before I picked up 2K8. And I will tell you that 2K5 is nothing and I mean nothing like 2K8.
When I placed 2K8 into the PS3 I thought I would just jump in and be on my way, not!!!!!!! Here is a short list of differences.
1) Kicking/Punting totally different took hours to figure out how, will take days to weeks to get good at it.
2) Tapping the A or X bottun doesnt make your player sprint, if you have a special ability you hold down the button to charge and then tap for break away burst if yor player has it.
3) QB's cant take big drops and throw off of any foot.
4) Defensive front and shell movement is different.
5) Not able to move your DL without changing the front or sheel
6) 2K8AI smokes the 2k5 AI
7) Way more animations.
8) If you have a DB with bump master you have to press R2 and pull down on the right stick to activate it before every play.
9) Almost all of the gameplay damaging bugs from 2k5 have been repaired
And the list goes on!!!!!!!
I took two days off when the game was released and have played nonstop for 6 days and I'm still learing stuff. I just learned about sprint and activating the DB bumping today!!!!!!
If you dont like the game, I can certainly understand that, but anyone that says that this game isnt any different from 2K5 is either high, or just hasnt spent much time with the game, or maybe hasnt played 2k5 in so long that the really dont remember how 2K5 actually played.

pretty sure i read somewhere they had like 9months to make this game. they pulled everyone off of football after madden got the nfl so no one was on there. i think if they did what ea did with college baseball ( i know 2k cant make college football but maybe a generic game back then), then they would be really good right now.
i know this game isnt the best. i play my offline games with performance EQ on, cause it seems to make the game more enjoyable for me. now i cant go blowing out cpu cause their generic players cant keep up with alvin harper on a go route or okoye cant run over everyone that isnt a legend.
even i was thinking this game was going to be the greatest of all time, but i can say its not. anyways give it another year maybe 2 and we'll be saying the same thing we said when 2k5 came out, this is the greatest football game of all time. yea i dont want to wait a year or even 2, but give it time. unlike ea they wont just put in gimmicks and try to pass it off as gameplay improvements. 2k will truely work harder to make this series good.

EA and NFL both suck for allowing inferior product to represent their respective businesses.
Before thinking they had a lot of time for this game, please remember the history:
- 2K was already working on NFL 2K6 when EA pulled that NFL contract out their a*s. That ruined them cuz of all the money/time they spent.
- About 6 or 12 months later was a report about EA stealing more contracts 2K was working on, like Arena and Canadian football.
- You know how Madden added Legends recently? That was only cuz they heard 2K was signing Legends so they went to the legends they were signing, and signed them before 2K could.
After all this stuff EA has pulled and gotten 2K to waste effort on. You're going to be super judgemental about their first game back? It was only a year and a half ago AT THE MOST they could've known this Legends game got the green light.
AND WHY would they spend all their off-time working on a game they didn't know was going to be stolen by EA yet another time?? Now, I probably wanted the same thing you did in the off-time. AT LEAST have the programmers go back and fix all the bugs/glitches in 2K5.. WHICH IS WHAT 2K8 IS SHOWING US. They literally removed every major bug/glitch from 2K5.
Sorry for the caps... but when I spend all my time playing one game which feels like crack to me.. lol.. sorry

And they say EA fanboys are sheep and buy into lame hype- I think 2k fans topped them all who buy into this whole innovative "cant be touched" legends gimmick. at least EA gave you an extra move with their lame hype. Legends play the exact same way theyve ALWAYS played- theres not even sig animations

Unfortunately that is the world we live in..as soon as someone with a solid and creative idea enters into the mainstream, some lame***** competitor will rip it off and present their own watered down inferior version to the masses..but quality usually wins in the end.
I dont think 2k8 sucks, by any means..i just wish the programmers would've focused more on nex-gen gameplay and graphics, as opposed to what the names of the teams and players should be..

So am I. I still play 2K5 all the time. I'm sure I'll rent APF at some point, just to see what the excitement is about. But as a game with the replay value of 2K5, APF isn't in the same ballpark, let alone league.
Wrong again, Communist Lackey.

Does anyone else think that this is the exact same game as 2k5 with only a few refinements???..
1) 2K5 football was great, so that is a good thing.
2) It is more than 'a few' refinements: A whole slate of licensed legends, better AI, great pocket formation, new reach tackle, full suite of next-gen online options, new kick mechanic, HD graphics, full sideline interaction, new 'special ability' system, something like 50% more animations than in 2K5, many animations replaced, 2K5 glitches fixed, etc.
Yes, there is still room for improvement. And yes, some features such as franchise mode didn't make it into this game.
But APF 2K8 is a hell of a lot better than EA's first next-gen attempt of Madden 06, that was crap. And it beats Madden 07 too.
So enjoy the good in this game and look forward to a better version eventually. And if you like NCAA & Madden, enjoy them too.

Nah... the problem is.. you S u c k at APF. So now you and those that agree with you, are mad. All of 2k Football series is based on a learning curve. 2k5 had a easy learning curve for passing, running and controlling the player manually. APF made it very difficult to do all, unless you pay attention to the game. That's what practice is for. Hint. You want to move your man around without so much momentum? Then move the joystick slightly. The more you move the joystick the more momentum even if you don't hit the A button. There's plenty more subtle things like that in the game, buy you have to PRACTICE to find them out. Another is how to get around the Automatic Strafe. But you gonna have to do research for that one.

i HAVE the game (and NCAA08) Barry moves like Barry did in nfl2k1. Like any rb with high ratings. APF2k8 is not on the level where you see a cut that ONLY barry does ar mannerism like Barry or anything SPECIFIC to that player model.
The legends are just face art and ratings- there is no real "legendary" style, no Legendary uniforms, no Legendary ol school tackles, no legendary trash talk, no Legenday game situations, no legendary rules, etc.
for the Legends thing to be worth its hype, it would have to be a game that TRULY reminds us of ol'school football. Not a rushed 2k5 stripped of its liscence.
EA hyped a "passing cone" yeah it wasnt too great and we all got on their case for it, but it still was something new, yet many act as if these Legends do something new and innovative for this game that couldnt have been done without them

Yo ! Just the thinks that you can do with this game are awesome the more you play the better the game gets, everyday me and my son see some new animation and I think back when It really happen in the nfl. the (Nat Moore Helicopter Hit) happened in a game with my son.. crazy So I will agree that they left some things out, personally I miss the after game interviews with the players, but just based on gameplay alone this is the best "playing" video football game ever!!!! and I played them all (OG) 37yrs old..... Not to mention when you throw a bomb with Elway..the release and power is ELWAY to the "T". That statement about Legends not playing like their counterparts is completely false. If you don't see it, you either just aren't familiar with those real players or you don't really have the game and are just shooting roman candles out your back end for the sake of an argument.
And baandje...I'm speaking like a "true online" gamers because that's exactly what I am. I tried "pretending" I was the owner and coach of a team and "pretended" I really cared about the progress of my imaginary players and...darn it bro, I just got bored with it in about 10 minutes. I don't play dolls and make pretend. I'm sorry if that offends Franchise lovers but I'd much rather watch a Chia Pet grow from scratch than to play out season after season after season of Football, trying to wheel and Deal some new guy I created into a season that means jack squat. You get nothing back from it except MAYBE your created team was a success. Yay Rah Rah!!! Wholy Moses...Franchise mode rocks!!!
And I'm seriously LMAO at the fact you haven't even played this game yet and you're all up in the Kool-Aid like you know something. Go get NCAA or Madden and create your little players and be the best GM / Coach / Player you can be. If you don't like Online play don't bother buying or commenting on APF2K8 because it's DEFINITELY NOT for you.

After playing APF 2K8 for a week I put NFL 2K5 in my xbox to compair the two. They are two completely different games. If you haven't played 2k5 since you tried 2k8 go back and play it, you'll see, totaly different look and feel.

I swear. All of the complaint threads have been pretty much the same 5 people rejoicing on their disappointment. Yes, we got it, you guys are disappointed. You knew what the game was going to offer before you bought it. It was no mystery. VC said that they had about a year to put this together. They were backlogged with NBA and CHoops, while also porting those games to the "horridly difficult to program for" PS3 system. VC isn't a huge company, but they were quite straight forward on what they were releasing. If you can't enjoy the most realistic representation of the sport of football a videogame has ever released because of a few bells and whistles, then I don't know what to say. However, the only disappointment was created by yourselves. I am having a blast, all my friends who bought it are having a blast, and the product is quite polished and offers a balanced football engine that takes actual football strategy to win.

I do enjoy the online aspect a lot, but I have logged a lot of games offline. However, mainly because I have a few friends that love to play football games and compete. I never talked up the online portion. I didn't know that people liked spending so much time tweaking and reading more than they did playing. Maybe this is a new gen thing. Growing up in 10 Yard Fight and Tecmo Bowl Land put me in a different perspective, where most of the fun in sports games have always been about versing others, whteher in the online world, and/or offline.

Ok, here it goes. I've supported 2k all these years and literally stopped buying anything from EA, but... I am disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the game play is great. But there is an amazing lack of depth in the single player modes. I guess they spoiled me with 2k5. I was hoping that they would pick up where they left off, short of FPF that is. When you look at 2k5 and extrapolate where they are going from there, you don't end up with what they released here. My hats off to the developement guys, they did great on game play. But man, where is my online fantasy draft. I still wish they would not have used real life players. In retrospect it seems like they became an excuse to not build a true franchise mode. 2K stated that this league had no history so they couldn't do that. That was an excuse. This is a virtual league, you can write in anything you want. They should have saved the money spent on aquiring legends and threw it into more developement time. Throw some generics out there and let the community get the ball rolling with complete customization. You can't even type in the name of town to put your team in. You have to choose out of a list. The same with the uniforms. No real editing. And not to mention you don't even get to pick all the players on your team. I just don't know. Now I wonder if there will be another APF next year? I hope there is. But come on guys, give us some credit out here. Give us the ability to edit everything. And be innovative again. give us the ability to view online games either via the PC or 360. Also online leagues with trading and a salary cap similar to the offline franchise for 2k5. Those are just some of my favorite ideas, but the list of ideas is not short. All you have to do is look back at some the old posts on this site about where 2K needed to go next and work to implement them. Unfortunately this release falls short of about all of them except putting out another game.
2K, I sincerely hope the game does well for you, but I hope you raise the bar for next year. And thanks for the good times with 2k5.

Isn't Madden 07 the same as other Maddens, but with refinements? Be realistic.. APF is the best football game out there.
No it is not the same because madden takes features out, releases a crappy product, adds the features back in two years later and call those features "new" and "innovative." madden sucks and so does the NFL for selling them the exclusive rights. Hopefully they don't renew their contract!

I thought the same thing go into game settings and turn the game speed up to fast you have 3 settings slow, normal and fast once you put this on fast you will be impressed with the game speed.
I should never have to change game speed to adjust to real speed, or adjust sliders to play realistic. I think thats crazy, make the game right! Everyone wants everyone to be grateful for a so-so product, and none of this stuff is so-so money. But that like you going to a nice restaurant, and not getting a decent meal or a meal that is halfway cooked, what do you then eat and say nothing or send it back and get your money back? 2k is a decent game, not great, and I'm sorry but thats what you expect. If you know you're product isn't up to par sell it for less like kia dealership would do because they know they haven't put quality of luxuries that Mercedes put in there car. (not to say EA is a Mercedes) but don't sell your car for top price, if it ain't worth top price.

The speed settings and slider settings are opinions. Each person has their own perception of what "right" is. I almost feel that some of you can find flaws in a real NFL telecast. Since everyone has their own perception of what makes these games realistic, then that is why these settings exist. I don't think the game is slow. I guess I'm wrong.
