I pre-paid for this game two months before it came out and was really excited about it. I am a TRUE MADDEN PLAYER, but that doesn't detract from the fact that I played 2K for dreamcast and felt it was the better football game back then. This game didn't live up to expectations (at least mine) and in most cases fell WAY below them. People on this board are calling this game the greatest football game of all time which is ALMOST sacreligious. At least some of the die-hard 2K'ers are starting to be honest about the game. Every review I read pretty much said the game was OKAY....then the 2K'ers flame THOSE reviews...THIS GAME ISN'T THAT GOOD!!! I have already lent mine to a co-worker which I would have never done if it were THAT good. 2K dropped the ball and that is the TRUE reason that they didn't release a demo, because they knew it would hurt sales. I love football so I will give MOST football games a shot, but I won't CONTINUE to play a bad football game...This game should have a filter to avoid synching you up with a player who has 4 or 5 players that you have on your team....Then when they show the stats, they show TWO Roger Staubachs, and it doesn't distinguish which one is yours. So in essence you have NO idea (for the entire game) who's stats are who's...This game feels rushed...I have an HDTV so don't throw that in my face....Sorry guys..

Man this game is 10 X better than madden, maybe if you are an offline player this game might not be that great to you but online this kills anything madden ever has and will put out. The leagues are where the bread and butter are at and Madden's leagues have absoltuly nothing on 2k's set up. Having drafts with 20 teams everyone has different legends, it will be awesome!!!

Everyoen has a different opinion. I am honest about mine. I am having more fun online then i did in 2k5. I think it plays a better game with less annoying bugs.

between the lines this game can not be touched.

True... this game is short on offline options. But once the game starts & online, it can't "be touched". If it just had some options in place of a franchise mode it would be rated in the 8's (or) 80's.

The best football game of all time to me is NFL 2k5. This game is better than 2k5 (in terms of controls/game play -- NOT features or presentation). So by default, it's the "best" game. However, it also fell WAY short of expectations. This game does not belong on a Next Gen system. Xbox 1 or PS2 could've handled this game, easily.
MY problems with the game (and this is just me):
The crowd designs are horrible. Ex. Notice no people moving about ala NBA 2k7.
No franchise.
No D-Line shift.
No lead blocker control (the only thing I would steal from Madden)
No profiles or pictures for the generic players. There's no way to know anything about them.

I can understand a little bit about the various disappointments with APF, but to just throw this game under the bus doesn't make any sense... You say you are a "TRUE MADDEN PLAYER;" does Madden play that much better than APF? Like Martin Lawrence as "Big Momma" would say, "Have you been sippin' on the yak?" It's pretty much understood on this board that as far as gameplay is concerned, there is no comparison between the two; APF is far superior to Madden. Yeah, the game is light on features, but the gameplay us longtime 2K fans were longing for is back and better than ever. Maybe if you had been more realistic going in (considering that 2K/VC hasn't made a football game in years and can't have much to work with without the NFL license), you might not have been so disappointed....

^^^LOL, A+++ for the Martin Lawrence reference alone

Hmm... I feel a little offended if you're talking to me just cuz I'm a 2K fan in general, especially football. I swear on my life I feel this is the most fun I've EVER had playing a video game in my life (27 year old, been around since Atari).
The game-play took me about 6-7 straight playing hours to even begin to get the feel for it. Now I'm hooked online like crack. Here's why:
1.) Play online with own created team
2.) Play online with own created playbook
3.) Play online with own uniforms
4.) Go back and edit team to make improvements to roster, playbook, or uniforms and go back online.
Note: I haven't even touched any offline stuff, no season for me. I generally never care about offline game options. So if you're mostly an offline player, I completely understand your frustration.
If you don't like the game that's fine, but just cuz some 2K people might have been a dlck to you, please don't include me in that. I have respect for you that you at least tried the game for a little while. I do the same with EA's games each year before I get tired of the gameplay real quick.
All I ask is you believe me when I say, "I truly believe this will be my favorite game of all-time."

"Come on guys be Honest" ?? WTF ? Why would I lie what I say about a video game. I don't work for 2k. I absolutely love this game. Best ever imo. No, it's not perfect, but no game ever will be. If madden is even better, you'll see me saying that game is my favorite. It's funny just because someone has a different opinion than yours, they're not being honest?

All great points. I too was doubting my purchase about 20-30 minutes playing. Then, I started getting a feel for the controls, adjustments, found all the other plays (that helped A LOT!)...and I was hooked.
This game is kinda like that shirt you are not sure about when you see it on the rack because it's so different than what you are used to wearing. You try it on, it fits OK, but it still feels a little weird. Later, somehow, it turns out to be your favorite shirt.
If you have not already, give it a try (if you have, give it more time). Many will find it will be your favorite in time...more likely sooner than later.

This is what I'm trying to explain to him... I doubt he's played the game enough. I'm a really quick learner and this game took me a while to appreciate.
But now I'm tired at work again cuz I was up all night playing. Dude said "CMON BE HONEST" and it's like.. How can I be more honest than missing sleep just to play this one game. And I bought a PS3 last week ONLY because of this game.
If I wasted $600 on one game (which I thought did for the first two days).. he better believe I'd be honest about it telling others not to do the same thing I did.. But instead I know it was worth every penny.
Considering we all owe 2K money for 2K5. We game them $20 each for a game worth so much more.

Playa, you hit the nail right on the head. I know I owe 2K for the years I have gotten out of ESPN NFL 2K5 (with updated rosters, of course), and I have enough faith in them that I went into my experience with realistic hopes for APF 2K8. The actual game has met those hopes and more. It's far from perfect and like Master P on "Dancin' with the Stars," it needs work, but I gotta tell ya, I cannot wait for APF 2K9....

If you are looking for validation that this game is not as good as Madden, you are in the wrong forums.
Go to EA's site and visit their forums and you will get ALL the validation you seem to be needing.
Be honest? About what? You think we are for some reason lying about how we feel about this game? Thats actually VERY arrogant.
You must live in your own little world where people cater to you. Otherwise you would understand the fact that just because YOU dont like a game, doesnt mean it isnt the best game ever made to some people (I personally dont think it is the best game ever made, but trying to make a point).
An example. I cant stand the Halo series of games. Tried em, dont like em. Does that mean that they suck because *I* dont like them? Nope. Means they are not for me. But I am not arrogant enough to go to a Halo forum and start spouting off things like "come on people, BE HONEST, Halo just isnt THAT great and such and such game is better".
Get over yourself and realize there are a variety of games because there are a variety of tastes. This isnt to your taste. Move on. But dont come here calling us liars because WE like it.
