I have heard very little talk of Derrick Thomas around here. I gave him a try and was very impressed.
First game I played I tried to utilize his abilities(rush the QB), but also found that he's a very above average tackler and with his great speed he's always around the ball.
Blitzing off the edge is his thing. The other team had Anthony Munoz at tackle and I was somehow able to blitz off the edge with DT, and fight through Munoz's block to take down the QB with one arm. I also had Big Dan and Clyde Simmons on my DL, so when I brought DT I was getting to the QB no matter what, his blitzing really opened it up for my generic DL to get through(had a generic DT with 2 sacks)
His pass coverage skills are underrated, too. Although I've seen a few balls hit him in the chest and he failed to catch them, he still lays out some guys that try to cross his zone. He made one play that I have never seen done before. After a receiver bobbled a pass, my generic FS tips the ball up and it looked like it would go out of bounds, but I sprinted after it with DT, tapped Y and he tips the ball about 5 feet in the air and backwards to keep it in bounds and it gets picked off by Albert Lewis.
All of this was in the same game, mind you. He finished with 8 tackles 4 assisted 2.5 sacks and 2 passes defended.

I do like derrick thomas in this game, he is the best olb but that was pretty much a given. he is a big upside if you are playing against someone with earl campbell. having him and some other olb or even jessie tuggle is a good way to stop him..and have manley and simmons on ur DL is a plus as well.

I'll have to try Thomas. I like going Reggie White pass rush. He's good for a few sacks a game.

Reggie White is pretty ferocious in this game. I haven't tried him yet, but I have played against him. Made the bad move of leaving a generic tackle on him, White didn't sack me, but he kept getting too close for comfort...had to move Korey Stringer to left tackle to finally slow him down a little bit...

I like Thomas but I don't like using the Gold on him. I actually get better production out of Greg Lloyd. Lloyd is everywhere on the field and will run down backs and receivers from behind. On my D right now I have Lloyd and Tuggle and I see both of them around the ball every play.

Derrick Thomas belongs in the Hall of Fame. He was one of, if not the most, dominant/feared pass rushers of the 90's.
I'll never forget when I saw him sack Elway seven times. Elway was one of the best, but DT made him look like a little boy among men.

He definitely should be a HOFer though he hasn't made it on his first 3 years of eligibilty (some say cuz he played in a relatively small market) - 10 sacks or more in 7 of his 11 seasons (7 sacks was his WORST total) - Pro Bowler for 9 consecutive years - 45 forced fumbles and 19 recoveries, returning 4 for touchdowns

Actually if you're talking about in a single game it was Dave Krieg of Seattle that Thomas sacked 7 times, an NFL record that still stands and may last for a while (he also sacked Jeff George 6 times in a game). RIP 58

So I'm assuming for that single game sack you have to get 8 sacks in a game? Yeah that's going to be hard. 7 sacks in 1 game is crazy, he was great and definately deserves to be in the hof.

He'll never be in the Hall of Fame though. Not as long as the KC Hall of Fame voter doesn't give a rat's you know what about him. If our own HoF rep doesn't want to put him in, why should the other 38 people care?
