i can get as far as to where you get a challenge or send a challenge, but when the challenge is accepted, a screen pops up and says that i cant play and please refer to the 2K FAQ.

can anyone help?
i bought this game for online play and i havent played a game online yet.

Unfortunately, the same thing happens to me. Whats worse is the fact that the FAQ doesn't say anything at all (literally) and the 2ksports.com website is of absolutely NO help. I can't imagine what the problem could be, but its terribly irritating. I've been going to the "quick match" option, but I've only gotten it to work twice. Most of the time, it just says "locating opponent" and no opponent is ever located. So I just end up sitting there. Horrible.

If you find out, please PLEASE let me know.

Yeah, only sometimes. Usually, there just aren't enough people online for it to work. I e-mailed the tech support people, and as soon as I get a reply, I will post it here.

#5 ,
thanks for emailing the tech because I am having the same problem. Glad to know I am not the only one having this problem. So why is the faq completely blank? Prettying freaking useless...

are you going through a router?

open ports 4658 and 3658 in port forwardings (make sure its udp)

also go to your router settings and enable UPNP. I did that and had no problem. I just can't play home games.

To get to router settings for Linksys the site is 192.168.1.1 belkin is 192.168.2.1 and d-link is 192.168.0.1 ( i believe that is the same for netgear but can't confirm.)

This has nothing directly to do with the game or the playstation 3 itself. This game (as many) works with a dynamic host / client principle instead of dedicated servers. In other words when your are the host your PS3 needs to have a certain acces towards the internet in order to "host" and accept incoming connections. Rather then when you are the client your PS3 only needs outbound connection to the internet so that explains that sometimes it works (when you are the client) and sometimes it don't (when you are the host)

Now in order to resolve that issue you need to configure your internet router of firewall so that inbound traffic can reach your PS3 or other console. Many people simply place it on DMZ, a full port forwarding towards the PS3. You can also check the off. forums of the consoles to know how to do this.

I know its technical and all, but your internet router or firewall blocks incoming traffic, so in the occasion when your the host (for instant a lobby challenge makes the challenger host) the connection fails with the known effect.

or you can read the post i wrote above to see how to do it. :D

GUYS LISTEN UP.. THe only thing i HATE about 2K is they completely ignore this issue. Why do I have to answer these connection issues every single day??? THEY NEED TO POST STUFF IN THE FAQ.

If you can't do what rockhead262 says, then call ur router 24/7 tech support and ask them how.

You can also enable UPnP (stands universal plug and play i think) on your router. This should take care of all the port forwarding and u dont have to configure anything except enable UPnP on your router. If you dont know how, please take advantage of D-links and linksys's 24/7 tech support.

If you do figure this out, and enable UPnP, please let us know if it works out for you.

TIP: If you HAVE to use your router, then you need to do this stuff. However, if it is possible to unhook your router and plug in DIRECTly to your cable modem (or whatever), then that will work.

Note: I'm lucky cuz I have a new Verison FiOS wireless router, which is a modem/router in one. so even tho im wireless routed, i'm directly connected too. f'in sweet.

speed wise, it might be slower than my cable modem was. but, thats cuz i probably had a lucky cable connection.

with fios, you get what you pay for. for $40/month i get 5mb download 2 mb upload speed. you can get faster and faster you just gotta pay more and more.

they give you this sweet modem/wireless router as part of the deal, its allowed me to have no connection issues on PS3. i love that the most.

reason fios is great is cuz TV is cheaper than cable TV. Its $42.99/month for all the channel (200+).

LOL. You caught me on a good game with Emmit. Some games I get between 200-300 yards with him and some games I get under 70 yards with him... If you stuck with your gameplan of running barry, i think the game would've been a lot closer. I think that pick 6 killed you and made you resort to passing more.

so you pay for both cable and internet separately or one price? I think i am paying 40 a month for verizon dsl. but the modem/router sounds like a must with the wii and ps3. I guess my 360 but that doesn't go on much since its freezing again (2nd 360)

uhm, its a seperate charge but it's the same bill same installtion guy.. FiOS is like Verizons version of the Cable companies, like comcast. they offer phone/tv/internet just like cable companies. you can 1, 2 or all 3.
