I have (3) important things I need in a football game.
1. Gameplay first and foremost. (I need the game to play like a real football game and have all the things associated with it. I need players to respond to what is going on around them, not run around like robots. CB not jumping 20' in the air to swat a ball away.) 2K8 has done right by this.
2. Graphics. (Graphics were not that bad, but I like to see more improvement.)
3. Replay Value. (Having a franchise mode with more players and drafting makes the game more fun and more realistic for a football game. It's also better when you're in a league, because once your season is over the fun part is drafting new players and starting a new season again.)
So, my 2 items will have to be, graphics (not to bad), and Franchise mode with more players. I don't care if they are generic, just give me drafting and trading,...etc.

Generics should have abilities, and legends shouldn't be restricted to 5 abilities. The legends should be better and the guys you're expecting to make plays, but in 2k8 the generics make a play once a blue moon. In fact, stop calling them generics and start calling them fictional players. This league needs to be filled out.
Franchise, duh.
Everything should be customizable. No silly *** restrictions on number of abilities for created players, or the 2-3-6 rule. Except online. If I want to create a 32 team league where every single player is gold, silver, or bronze, and it just so happens to be the NFL, that should be fine (as long as I keep it offline). Player created content doesn't get you in copyright trouble. The NFL does not own colors or shapes, they own the right to sell the logos, names, and colors as a packaged team. As long as 2k isn't selling that, they're fine.
Fix the ******* camera zoom for halftime/postgame shows. How do you take a step backward from 2k5. Also, take off the one play per drive restriction, and just show all the good ones.
The greatest weekly recap show ever. I'm talking more SportsCenter, less 2k5 weekly show.
When I said franchise, I also meant all the trimmings.
I was thinking about the player ability system and using it outside of legends (I wish this game didn't have legends, their balance is the biggest detriment to the gameplay). How sweet would it be if you couldn't see what abilities new players have, or could potentially have. i.e. When you draft, you'd have to take a player through some snaps and try to figure them out without a screen that tells you what they have. Over time, the abilities would reveal themselves (for example, say if a player has "Ball Hawk" it will become official and displayed once they get 20 career picks), making for a dynamic and storied league.
I just never liked the idea of just choosing my players based on attributes. It's like in real life, teams constantly make decisions about roster spots and which players are the best, etc. In games, it's always been, 'oh look, you're rated higher than my starter. done.'

OH! a better juke system... i am tierd of seeing barry spin all the time! he didnt SPIN!!!! he ran like this!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=aMSUKDu9nKw
YOU SEE THOSE JUKES!? you cannot run like that in this game... sure you will see the acassional juke... but thats it!!!
oh... and...well franchise of corse.... and i would like to see the go low/high thing actually work... i mean... it works but it is incredibly hard to line up the tackle... i always land infront of the guy... plus when you go low instead of the RB just jumping over you, you warp up to his waste and then he breaks it...

-Co-op online
-The little things like the blimp from 2k5 and the shadow it casts on the field.
-Cheerleader cut scenes, not being a perv here but they do help create the whole football atmosphere.
-Better font size on the text
-Co-op online
-Not so generic menu screens
-No repeat jersey numbers on the same team, except maybe if they are both Legends.(its like a constant reminder that I'm playing a generic game)
-Stadium crowd celebrations( again, its little cutscenes like this that help give the football atmosphere)
-Larger variety of comments from the booth. If I half to hear Dan say "snarffs" one more time....
-Co-op online
Fortunatly all my complaints seem to be little things that can easily be tweaked. I'm very happy with the gameplay and so far I can see myself being entertained with this game for awhile.

Some very good ideas here, and I agree with almost all of them.
To address the franchise issue a little further...
I'd like to see some sort of system where you can draft players from a pool of generics. Each generic player is assigned a "potential list of attributes." By this I mean that each generic has the potential to develop certain skills up to a set level. For example, a generic TE might have the "potential" to develop soft hands or tough over the middle attributes. When you initially draft this TE, his skills arent honed yet. Depending on how you use him in game situations, he can then begin to reach his full potential.
Just a thought, but I'd like to see what other people think about this.
Thanks

Good idea.
I would also like to see franchise have an option to use Legends or not. I would rather use Generics in franchise that would allow you scout them much like 2K5 did. Online could have both options of Legends or Generics.

Franchise mode where you draft the legends, online franchise with a draft option. Thatd be a true 2k football game.

Create a coach + legend coaches, more choice of logos, better grass/pitch, Revolution & Schutt helmets, mouthguards, Franchise, PLayer customisation (Hair, facial hair, muscle mass), pads coming out of jerseys/ripped jerseys, proper lip synch, create a taunt.
Theres just a few Id like to see!

THICKEN THE PLAYERS, just a little bit tho....Not too big of a problem, but if it's done, it'll shut a few mouths about the players body sizes....

No Franchise Mode. I don't want 2K to cave in on this and make a franchise because Madden or NCAA have it. Creating a balance in drafting new players and have Legends retire and all that is worthless with this game appeal. Play a season and if it's too easy up the difficulty.
It would be nice to make a fantasy draft for off-line seasons so each team is different every new season you play. You just pick the teams and the players are filled in by AI.
I think the players bodies and movements are great but the generic faces are ROUGH. Really need to tone down the BUG EYES.
Change the Field Pass. It's pretty corny at times and I shut it off after 2 games.

Franchise, of course. Have the legends come into the league in the order that they originally came into the league. Mix them in with fictional recruits during the draft classes. That way they come and go, but are not all in the league at the same time.
Give the fictional players the ability to gain abilities (like mentioned above).
Expand the list of abilities.
Expand the number of legends.
More costumization. Let us create a league, teams, etc. Let us edit all the players. Expand the uniform editor to be more in depth. Give us more logos, cities and stadiums to pick from or let us design our own.
Add in the Euphoria engine. (this may need a major retooling of their game engine though)
CLEAN UP THE OVERLAYS AND MENUS - Seriously, the little score bar across the lower part of the screen is ALWAYS in the way. Make it appear and disappear. Make it look better. Cleaner stat overlays. Get rid of the ridiculous Mac inspired menus.
Fantasy draft. Draft your team and even your generics. Don't let the player just pick anyone and everyone they want for the legends. Have a draft so that the cpu teams get well mixed up too.

I've never understood this line of thinking. If a franchise mode is added to the game, then you can choose to use it or not. Those who want the franchise mode are then happy. Those who dont care about the franchise mode won't use it anyway. I don't see how anyone looses in this situation.

One suggestion, and this would make me giddy:
Ditch the entire "Legends" concept, and just make EVERYTHING customizable.
every player, every aspect of your team, playbook, etc.
