View Full Version : Expect A Lot Of Whining & Crying When You Shut Down Earl Campbell

and also negative feedback. I have had this happen to me a few times this past weekend. I will play a guy with Earl Campbell, so I geared up to stop the run..sending multiple LB's at him when I anticipated the run..and double teamed his 2 star wide outs...simple 4-3..man under defense.
Well..you would have thought I had commited some heinous crime against mankind. EVERY time I stuffed Earl I would be treated by pauses...and replays..as if I had done something foul lol..over and over again.
I guess we arent supposed to try to stop Earl. We are supposed to just let him romp through our defense and bulldoze his way into the secondary.
I then realized that these guys did not know how to pass. They just kept on chucking the ball to their double covered wideouts. Again..replaying every bat down and pick off.
One time when he came out in a one wide out set after earl had been stuffed 3 times on 1st and goal from the 10. I triple teamed jerry rice..and he just fired it in there for another pick.
This time I decided to have my own fun and zoomed the replay in and moved my cursor around to each defender I had around him..then moved it to every reciever I left wide open.
idiots.

You will always have guys with NO football knowledge out there. They don't know how to adjust and then it's your fault for that.

July 30th, 2007, 05:18 AM
I hate that. Is there a limit on pauses?
Mizerak3
July 30th, 2007, 05:19 AM
Yeah, 5 minutes to do what you need to do.

July 30th, 2007, 05:24 AM
Then, I think they need to cut that to 3 mins. Or have a limit of three pauses. They added accelerator clock to speed up the game. But you have idiots out there that will eat up all 5 mins just to **** you off. Doesn't make sense to have a 5 min. time limit if you really want to speed up a game.

The five minutes is better than Maddens two pauses or some crap

Such a classy post. I can see you'd be a ton of fun toplay online. No wonder you get negative feedback.

Cut the guy some slack. I know my anger is brewing pretty hard when I finish playing someone with a lack of respect for me as a human being. I'll give him that. Also, he doesn't exactly say anything untrue, and the worst language I see here is "idiot". I'll call that mild based on the way many people behave online.

Yeah whats wrong with this post? He posts legitament complaints. I hate people who dunno how to play real footballl and just run the same plays over and over again. The sport is about making adjustments on the fly and thats what makes it fun.
BTW - Numbski... I have been seeing your name here forever and I'm pretty sure I have seen it somewhere else... Did you ever post at a place called AOTsanctuary or AgeSanctuary for age of mythology/Empires? Thats the only place where the name seems to fit - thanks.

I know EXACTLY what this guy means. I played some guy who was ranked like 65 or something the other day. He had like 7 created players...all 7 foot (linebackers, terrell owens, corners). Every play he wanted to show me a freaking replay, he showed me replays until he had like 30 secs left on his timer. It was annoying as hell. So, when I scored my last score, I showed him a replay on how stupid he acted, and what a dumb defense that I destroyed. Then I won. I don't do that on the regular, if I watch a replay it would be really quick, mostly just a move or something that looked cool. Some people do get on my nerves.
It happened to me again where one guy kept showing replays of him intercepting the ball, batting down balls, and it was frequent. So when I scored to win the game in triple coverage to Rocket Ismail (I have Rodger the Dodger), I had to show him the replay. Like I said, I don't do that normally, those are the only two times I've done that. I understand where the poster is coming from.

The last two games (one ranked, one not) that I've played have been against players with Campbell at back. I've more or less shut down both of them. Neither of them really said much about it and the one guy gave me positive feedback for being a good competitor.
Not everyone is whiny when they lose.

I'm going to assume that you misunderstood something, and think that I am the one doing the constant pausing.
Not so. The people I was playing where doing the constant pausing..every dang time I stopped Earl for no gain or behind the line, just by playing legit defense.
I play nonsense free..my feedback is over 80%. Only people who give me negatives are people like who I described, and kids who get angry when I shut down their cheese 7'0" 280 pound gold teir running backs.

I found a formation to run the ball out of that is so good you could run a generic HB with it and still rush for 150+ yards a game.

I play with earl cambell, but don't whine and cry when he gets shut down. I just go to my passing game. The only way I'll give negeitive feedback is if someone tries to run up the score after they have me beat. Have any of you guys been down in the fourth quarter by 3 touchdowns. Scored a touchdown, get the onside kick, score again. Onside kick miss it, and have your oppent with 1 minute left in the game. Score a touchdown then try and onside kick?

That would be a funny story...if I wasn't also a chucker who hands off to the big earl. LOL. Im getting better at reading coverage though :0 im trying...oh, and would never complain about someone beating my one sided game. the real question is how can you not beat my one sided game and then complain about me using earl?

safeties are better than linebackers at stopping the run in this game. i found that gold/silver picks on LBs were a big waste as they are the first guys to get blocked, specially when running up the gut.

it happened to me with ranked 5 guy mrtluv on ps3 who i beat 10-7, and ranked 2 guy suritzu something to who i lost in third overtime 13-10. both ***ers gave me negative. both had campbell.
people don't know how to play the game. when earl is shut down. basically they can't score, except some lucky plays, and when u stop them they whine. their reasons for negatives were like game was too boring, u used hurry up offense in third quarter, u paused the game, u checked replays, there was a holding call on me, the game lagged. wut the hell, people are just messed up in the head. i feel u

My policy on pauses has always been the same. You get 5 minutes to do whatever the hell you want. If you want to show me your replays, fine. If you need to take a leak, fine. If you want to adjust your depth chart, fine. But if you are being a jerk and your time runs out, tough. They should cut the pause timer now though since you can do audibles and depth chart stuff offline. That is what took up most of the time in 2K5. Now all you need the pause time for is defensive matchups and maybe a replay here and there. This definitely does not warrant 5 minutes.

Nope, although for a short period of about a year or so there was another Numbski running around. He seems to have vanished now. :)

Yeh I played a guy who played with Earl, ran him every down. He paused the game for like 4 and half mins after he scored the opening TD (I think he wanted me to quit), then he was stopped on the goaline - so he paused for another 30 secs to have a close look..funny thing was he was winning and exceeded the pause limit, which threw up a message that his pause limit has expired and offered me to take the win..Thank you very much..another win for me! Looks like 2k offers you the win if people abuse the pause function. Nice.

Yup. We used to play more often on 2K5 (2K4?) but yeah. I don't recall the outcome either. Sorry!

Played a guy last night...i swear every single play was a run with Earl...
There was one play i made a big hit in the backfield to stop him for a loss of two yards with one of my generic corners.
Earl got right up and went to the huddle...my corner laid there grabbing his ribs lol

what exactly are you guys doing to stop Earl? I have bronze DEs and a Bronze corners, Tatum. I run blitzes at him, run 4-4, cannot get the big man down.

How do you 'triple team jerry rice'??? ...also how do you double team. All i know is that you can focus on a player and assigne a defender. The audibles are tight loose inside outside etc.
I need to read the manual again i guess but not everything is in there.
some one was mentioning how to come out lined up for a play (fake) and run a completely different one too.
I run the danger of getting burned by gold wr's because i don't know how to double them.

When holding down the coverage audible button (right bumber on 360) select the defender you wish to adjust their assignment. Example my Gold Strong Saftey Cliff Harris has let say Y over his head, then while still holding down the button find Rice and hit the button over his head. I double team Rice with my Lewis "bronze corner" bumping him at the line and Cliff playing over the top. It is a good way to slow down Rice and if the player is stupid and keeps throwing it up, it's good for a pick or two.

this is why i dont play online. the ai might be easy to beat sometimes but at least they dont use glitches and pauses to frustrate the opponent. online just annoys the hell out of me. if you play the game the right way, you can have better competition by turning the ai up and playing the computer. at least the ai wont run the same 5 plays over and over.

People need to get over it. Earl is aproblem but he is not the best in the game, believe me. The Computer showed me that when it made Gale Sayers in my personal nightmare. The dude said in real life - "give me 14 inches of daylight, that's all I need" He was not lying. I had to switch to 52 and key him to slow him down. That dude is a running machine

It's pretty easy, I don't know....play 2 man and bring one safety up and control the other safety. That way you potentially have a nine man box and also are in two man in case they air it out. If you really want to stop the run, I'd advise a short zone where you man cover the receivers and maybe the tight end.
I rarely replay, except for if it's a penalty (I check to see if the late hate actually merrits me accepting a 15 yard penalty). That, and to pee, or to grab food from the oven.

Gale Sayers...yeah, who is the CPU team that has him. He went freaking nuts on me. Once he breaks into the secondary you might as well rack up the 6pts. Earl can knock em down like bowling pins but everyone can outrun him so he is always getting his big runs drug down from behind. Gale can run like an mf and if you do have a CB that catches him odds are he isn't going to tackle him.

Yeah you right about that. That dude gave me a real problem in the championship game at that. He made my linebacker look like a girl scout. But there are lots of running backs in the game that are a problem. OJ was getting on my last nerves too. But in consideration 2K always had a great running game. In the end you kust have to find a way to slow him down.
Also watch out for thurmond thomas, the computer will run quick passes on you all day and really rack the yards up. best bet is get your best linebacker on him personally and keep an eye on him.
