^^FPS stands for frames-per-second. The number indicates for how many frames (in this case: pictures on screen) are displayed within a second.
The higher the number is, the smoother it looks and the more you can realize the nuances of the animations.
Last-gen. games and many of todays often run at 25/30fps while some run at 60. Above that (actually already above 40), it is difficult for the human eye to see further differences.

A reviewer from finish magazine has confirmed in his latest review that, NHL 08 will run at 30fps on PS3 and whiles, the Xbox 360 version will run in 60 fps. He further states that, the PS3 version's frame rate feel more like NHL 07 on the Xbox 360.

“Rob M.” from EA Sports technical support says he understands gamers “frustration,” but says that EA has been “developing titles for the Xbox 360 for over 3 1/2 years” and has only been working with the PS3 for over a year. He goes on to say it’s “very difficult to get it right the first time.” He goes on to say that that 30 frames per second is the same for all PS3 sports games, and they’re happy to point out that the same holds true for 2K Sports as well. He finishes by saying that “if you choose not to purchase the [PS3 version], it is a choice [they] fully understand and respect.”

ouch. I read that as well. I think he was referring to Madden because the PS3's review was 1 point lower because of choppiness and frame rate. Glad I dont have a PS3. Expensive piece of CRAP right there.

Somebody mentioned that last years titles on 360 will run like this years titles on PS3. whew, thats HORRIBLE news! :eek:

you mean 08 wont run at 60FPS...im pretty sure that 2K8 will run at 60FPS on the PS3...didnt 2K7 on the PS3 run at a solid 60FPS?...
im not going to get NHL 08 on PS3...i haven't even purchased ONE EA game on my PS3 yet..and probably never will.
