Not trying to stereotype here, but I think 2K is a game for more strategic and intellectual football fans. Seems like every EA fan that comes on here is just a moron, with their massive amounts of grammatical errors, overused smileys, and repeated bashing of 2K because they suck at it, or it has a different feel than Madden.
It seems like if I introduce 2K8 to my friends, the more intelligent they are, the more they like the game. For instance, one of my really dumb friends refuses to play the game because (and this is a direct quote) "WTF is this? There is no pump fake in Madden. This is stupid...he should just throw the ball" or "WHY is it taking him so long to throw the ball downfield?" or even "HOW COME I MISSED THIS TACKLE, I QUIT!" My more intelligent friends are hooked on it and ask to play it every time we hang out.
Not saying all EA fans are stupid and all 2K fans are intelligent, but this is an odd coincidence don't you think?

Nah trust me, it's not a coincidence. I used to play NCAA online a ton, and the maturity level between that and APF is really staggering. A short passing game on any EA game is considered "glitching". It's really disgusting. APF provides a much better time.

You're absolutely right. EA is the 50 Cent of the sports gaming world, and 2K sports is equivalent to Rakim. EA is well-known and sells a lot because of their strategy of appealing to the majority of Americans (a bunch of morons). But 2K gets more respect from the gaming world due to putting out a "higher-quality" game.
Keep in mind, higher quality doesn't mean better, it just means, more refined, more intellectual, and more skill-based. In what does, it excels, but the things it lacks really hamper their sales.

It still has a chance to sell enough copies where VC will make another game. Take2 and VC knew going in that this game wouldn't sell 3 million copies at $60 a pop. 2K5 sold that because it was $20 a copy.

That's the frustrating part. 2K puts out much better games than EA - games for people with actual brain cells - yet they botch it by not marketing them properly, or releasing games that are full of glitches, or like APF, put out an unappealing, stripped-down game they stupidly try and go head to head with NCAA. Sad stuff.

Depends on the fan I guess. All I ever did in 2k5 was update the player ratings to the most perfect degree, and invite friends over to play it. We would fantasy draft our own teams, and make our own subs and playbooks, much like 2k8. I never went online, and once I realized that without Flying Finn's roster editor (I had PS2) the Franchise mode would **** up due to salary cap issues with CAPs and such, I quit doing that also (not that I did it much to begin with). I never liked 1st Person Football, and I never used the Cribs Feature, except maybe once or twice to play darts, paper football, and air hockey.
For what I need, this game is excellent, but for others, who want a more immersive sim experience, it falls short. The only thing, for me, this game could possibly improve on, is the weird challenge screw-ups and some of the stupid commentary, but even those are well ahead of the quality of the features EA puts out every year.

I'm sort of mad at 2K and pulling for them at the same time. I'm mad because if they are willing to give up on a football game this early, they should at least had put in a lot more effort than they put in this game. I mean if you expect great sells, you have to come out strong. Don't get me wrong, i love the game. But there is still so much missing from this game. And i was supporting 2K expecting to see another one next year. If they wanted to sell, they should have made a complete game, or at least drop the price down. Hearing this, that they might not make another game, or they will wait until 2K10, it ****es me off. I support 2K but they went by this all wrong.
And to the guy that made this thread. You know 2K football is better, that's why you came on here trying to put the game down. You can go back to your Madden Boards and play your garbage game.

If you're talking about what I said, then what you're saying is laughable. I'm merely inferring that those who don't know jack about football, and don't have the intelligence to call their own plays, build their own team, and actually play realistic football...do not like 2K football. Sorry, but the bolded part is just wrong. That's 2k's biggest problem IMO - inconsistency. For every masterpiece like NFL 2k5 there's an unplayable POS like MLB 2k7 that's full of glitches. Say what you want about EA's arcade-like gameplay at times, but I've never played an EA sports game nearly as glitchy as MLB 2k7. You know what you're going to get with EA. It might not be innovative, it might not be the deepest gaming experience you've ever had, but at the very least it'll function, which is more than I can say for a few of the duds that 2k has put out. I think that's the biggest thing holding 2k back. Just my 2 cents.

There's a difference between saying EA "dumbs down" their games (which is true) and saying all people who like EA better than 2k are dumb. What you must not understand is that there are plenty of intelligent people out there who don't care a whole hell of a lot about video games but enjoy playing them every now and again. For the most part, EA's games are better for people like that. Does that make them dumb? No.

Listen, we're not saying that, you're taking this out of context. I play FIFA and NHL 07. Compared to PES and NHL 2K, they are dumbed down games. But I won't buy NHL 2K because the game is a glitch-fest, and PES on the 360 was what APF is: a stripped down game that wasn't worth the price they were asking.
Madden is different IMO. At least FIFA is improving. EA I think keeps Madden an arcade game, because they believe kids and people who don't know football, won't buy it otherwise.

For the record, PE2008's looking to be great on next-gen platforms. FIFA's one advantage, their license, isn't even much of an advantage anymore. Konami's set the market for non-license sporting games.

You obviously haven't gotten very far in a franchise then. A couple things:
1. At the end of every season there's a good chance the game will freeze and not allow you into the post season for absolutely no reason at all, effectively ending your franchise.
2. By halfway through my first season most of the other teams were unrecognizable because of absolutely retarded and unrealistic trades. Derek Jeter was playing for the D-Rays...
3. If those are honestly your only problems with the gameplay you don't know baseball very well. Before I changed the slider settings entirely almost every aspect of the gameplay was completely unrealistic.

I don't know, I wasn't particularly impressed by the WE demo, but it was better than FIFA 07 next gen (not saying much). I hope the first few tries for FIFA on the next gen have just been bumps in the road b/c I absolutely LOVE FIFA for the current gen. I don't claim to be a soccer guru (FAR from it), but I love FIFA 07 for my old xbox and World Cup 06 was the game that got me into the franchise. I hope 08 steps it up for next gen.

Sorry, but having a functionable franchise mode isn't "fluff stuff". They might as well have just scrapped franchise mode altogether and made it APF-like b/c the franchise mode was laughable. And say all you want about the "franchise kiddies" but it's completely different in baseball than in football. The only way to play "sim" baseball is in the context of a season, so having a completely unfunctionable franchise mode makes for a horrible baseball game, no two ways about it.
Online is horrible in that game too. Talk about a dumbed-down game. You can make the settings so easy in online games it's not even worth playing. Immediately when the game starts my opponent would always switch to all of the easiest settings - classic batting, pinpoint pitching, breakpoint, etc. Why even play if you're using those retarded settings? It gets as unrealistic as EA's baseball games back in the Triple Play days. I would usually try to play for a few innings on the realistic settings, then switch to their settings if I was losing and hit like 8 HR in an inning to get the lead back. Not exagerating - that's how easy it is with those settings and there's no way to restrict that.

OK, A.) it didn't sell because they don't have the NFL license. Madden sells because they are an NFL game, with real teams and players.
B.) I can talk about intelligence all I want, because it does take more football knowledge and strategy to play this than Madden. how do I know? personal experience. I've played both. Madden is not necessarily for "dumb" fans, but there are a lot of fans that play Madden who don't know jack about football, and the ones that are football freaks like myself, would rather play 2K.
Which leads me to C.) The game has lower reviews because most people AREN'T football freaks. There is nothing wrong with not being obsessed with football strategy, I never said that. Most of the America is like that. And that's why Madden sells so well.
I'm not saying either game is better, so you can chill out about that, just that players who like strategic, realistic football will prefer 2k8.

If 2K is so good then why is it not selling...Okay even if you think that EA's Madden is junk, fine, but truth be told, nobody is buying 2K...I bought it, prepaid the whole nine...and it isn't great. I didn't need to open the instruction booklet to rattle off 7 quick wins. Madden sells because it's better. You keep knocking the EA football games but they are better. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to play either game so I don't want to hear you guys talking about intelligence...The game just isn't that good....The ratings told you that the game wasn't that good. The Madden players that crossed over like myself gave a right to express our opinion on this game because we WASTED 60 dollars on it. You can lie about it and act like the game is good...but the truth is in the numbers, and the reviews....Madden 07 kicks this games butt....Don't even compare it to madden 08....2K BARELY sold copies...
Just a quick comparison...
chevy corvette OWNS a ford mustang
Guess which sells more?
MUSTANG
Superior Sales dont mean you're getting a superior product...

OK, A.) it didn't sell because they don't have the NFL license. Madden sells because they are an NFL game, with real teams and players.
Your fans and the developers said that you didn't NEED NFL teams or current players.
I play Madden, have coached football for a long time and played semi pro ball for years...I understand the game and madden is more strategic..I have 160 wins online to compared to 90 losses....
Which leads me to C.) The game has lower reviews because most people AREN'T football freaks. There is nothing wrong with not being obsessed with football strategy, I never said that. Most of the America is like that. And that's why Madden sells so well.
Madden sells better because it IS better!!!!!
I'm not saying either game is better, so you can chill out about that, just that players who like strategic, realistic football will prefer 2k8.
The reason I can say that is because I purchased 2K football, and am not impressed. Neither are the people who have returned them to the shelves and or are not purchasing them...

Not only do they suck, but they were a mainstay on TRL at the same time as NSYNC. They're your example of an under-appreciated band? I feel for you and your playlist.

I feel like I'm talking to a tree. A stupid tree at that. The people who returned it aren't happy with it because they're not big fans of strategic, intellectual football. Madden is not better, it just appeals to a larger audience. How many times do we have to say that?

Even if NCAA or Madden is so so as far as gameplay, it'll still sell way more.

How is this game more "strategic"? because they limit you to 2 gold players? How is this game intellectual? No football game is really there yet- and this game even LESS intellectual than the competion because they get rid of stats and "numer lookn stuff " like a franchise mode- something that football intellectuals actually enjoy and IS a big part of strategy.

all of these are easy questions to answer with one word gameplay.
Madden has weak simple minded gameplay... 2K requires you to know and understand the game of football.

in what way? most people on here just get on the bandwagon of saying Madden is arcade just to hate on it. I prefer 2k, but only really becaue i'm in LOVE with the animations. Other than that, when it comes down to it- both games are far from a realistic representaion of football from an AI standpoint OR a strategy/playcalling standpoint.
For evey nitpicky thing you can say about Madden, there is something just as ridiculous in 2k.
and when it comes down to which is the more intellectual game- Madden will be by far. The Legends and the loss of any real rating really dumbed this game down for the masses. In no way does getting rid of ratings add anything but mindless simplicity to the game

2k football at least forces you to play defense at least. Madden is an offensive players game from the beginning and will continue no matter what.

In no way does getting rid of ratings add anything but mindless simplicity to the gameLOL, the audibles and wide variety of pre-snap controls give you virtually limitless control over your defensive and offensive schemes. The playbook is much larger than Madden's. And there are not nearly as many abusable plays as Madden (Carson Palmer 70 yard bomb to Chad Johnson FTW).
If you think they are even in terms of strategy and variety of plays, along with control of your entire team, you must not know jack **** about football. Play some real football, instead of Madden, and then tell me they are both equally realistic and strategic.
Ratings are not what we're talking about. The levels of ignorance you reached with your last post were previously thought unattainable. This has nothing to do with the ratings system or the "two gold players" as you said. It's all about gameplay. And Madden is not real football. Period.

hey, nba 2k7 master. your a dumb*****!
I saw madden over on youtube. Looks much better than years past. then I had a thought. All you idots paid $60 the past 2 years for what? Simple; a new roster.
Did you ever think that EA could have given you the gameplay they release in 2008? Of course you didn't. Jack*****, EA suckers you as long as they can. Once they realized they *might* have some competition, all of a sudden comes a "better" madden. What? Somehow you think it took developers 3 years to incorporate better animation?
So go ahead, continue to support EA. I got a game that costs $60 and love it. Plus it's good for multiple years.
You have game that you love to. Problem is you paid $180. dee dee dee...
And I realized. I really didnt need to play with current players. It used to matter. As you get older and you see everyone raping you for cash you realize you cannot support that crap anymore.

as for a game dumbed down for the masses.... the game you speak of is Madden. How you say........ hmmm..... i could count so many ways but I have done that countless times over and over and truly care not to anymore but I can tell you one way it's dumbed down for the masses. Kick it with any QB then tap the whatever button and watch him bomb a pass 80 yards with ease. No need to ensure that your QB has enough space and time to throw such a pass. No need to worry about footing or angles.... all you do... is just stare at the pocket.... wait a few seconds.... then tap the button and bamo.... an 80 yard bomb just like that. If the WR drops it... no worries... just run that same play again.... no need to worry if the WR is triple or doubled or quadrupled.... just keep running that play... in fact... call max protect and only send one WR out that should give you ample time to chuck it... even if you're chased by a LB or DT or DE... just stop and pop....

Madden 07 on the 360 is a terrible game. I played it at a friends house the other day after a couple weeks of APF. The score was like 42-35. In the first half. The game was so easy, we would just both score after one or two plays. Then I had to go home and play some APF to get a real football fix.

well, maybe i suck at NCAA08 then,(or you dont have NCAA08 and are just talking out of you *****) because with the sliders adjusted i dont find NCAA08 any easier than APF. And i dont abuse exploits just to win. I could practically run for AT LEAST 5 yrds every play with Cunningham in APF. I can complete slants and corner routes easily in APF. both games have some AI gaffs that can be exploited. I dont even TRY crap like what you mentioned to even know that i could abuse it- so you still dont have a point

Does madden simulate 1 and 2 gap defenses? Or "properly" disguise coverages? how about....sending more than "one" player in motion on offense.? But I definately agree APF is more realistic but it doesn't sell because it's not based on the NFL. If EA didn't have the NFL License then 2k would outsell Madden just like NBA 2k7 outsells live.

I think 2K spoiled a great opportunity.
The marketing guys got the release date correct - around NCAA and before Madden. The August time frame has always been when football gamers gear up for the new releases. It is smart to try and ride that existing wave and not try to create your own.
Then there is the bit about EA's monopoly on the NFL and the the fact a lot of people have been more than disappointed with EAs offerings. Add a dash of 2k5 legendary memories and chat and every football fan, old and new - 2K and EA, were ripe to give APF a chance.
Now the problem; features aside, 2K put out a game that, no matter what it plays like, has very little curb appeal. The menus are boring and unfriendly, the first thing everyone sees is an ugly maroon build a team interface with ugly player models (not sure if it is the zoom or the background but those guys just look ugly in this menu). Then the next thing everyone's eyes are overwhelmed by is a last-gen grass texture.
Yeah, it doesn't play like Madden and that is a good thing but with everyone coming from the EA camp (there was no other choice) you cannot expect them to discovery the subtle differences in gameplay if they can't choke down the first 10 minutes of the user interface.
2K needed to dazzle everyone with a slick user interface, presentation and graphics and then let them discover how great the game plays. This they failed to do so and now the once in a lifetime opportunity is wasted because next season, if there is a 2K9 (hoping), then a lot of people will have already writen it off because of 2K8. This seaason they had everyone - everyone was hoping.

They couldn't have put out a less appealing game if they tried. Between the ugly player models, the incredibly mediocre graphics, the horribly dull overlays and the mind-boggling lack of options and features, it’s hard to believe it was VC who put this game together. I dont think it was ready 3-4 weeks before NCAA. They need is a price cut when Madden drops. Drop the game to 29.99 or 39.99 that will help alot. So many people on the fence about 2k8. That price drop will easily sell another 100k copies. Not saying in the first week, but overall.
