I have been havingissues with defense and was hoping you guys could give me some tips. Yes I do double team WRs and things like that. I understand the game butI think it's my play calling that is lacking. I'm not asking for the basics. I understand them. I just need help with a few good defensive plays to call and when.
Pass - I do pretty well against the pass but could still use help
Run - Having REAL issues here. Especially up the middle
Thanks ahead of time

Use a 3-4 defense. Get rid of completly the dime and nickle packages and replace them with the Dime-3-2 and Nickle 3-2. The trick to stopping the run isnt to have all your guys lined up close to the line as possible because most Gold star RB will just run around you. Use you Linbackers like lane cloggers with blitz's and movement even if there in for coverage. Play Corners close and manually use one of your safety's. It's hard to stop the run but once you mastered it you really don't even need that many stars. Get a bunch of leadership defensive players and stack your offense as a juggernaught.

Let me add to the previous post. Most people use 4-4 to stop the big boys. This is really great for inside the 20 yard line. I still think Gold star Running backs run around this way to much ...though it is effective. I play the run back and bring the momentum at the baller. Gang tackling is great because after the initial hit the RB has no counter for the second. Take off every double team and just place an ( X ) on the gold star runner. This will give you two people assigned. You can also manually assign an additional assignment on the RB. The only problem is most people hike the ball way too quick to make you adjustments so this is just easier. Blitz but don't all out blitz as to people dump to tight ends. I hope this helps.
As far as offense there may be better qualified out there than I but I will try.
If you are passing. Lets say your four wide. I like to use my wide out to block. So I have only two options. You can manually make a wide out block by holding down clicking the juke stick and hitting the appropriate reciever's button. This gives you more time to pass and you have less chances of hitting a wrong button. Also the AI defense is stupid. By blocking a wide out if he is playing man-man coverage will come up and try to gaurd the wideout just standing around and usually someone is open. I'm not sure if this is cheese but I do it with great effectivness.
Running the ball. I'm still not good. Use Bunch Right. and toss sweep.
I hope this helps

Stacking the line is a dangerous decision against good RBs, because they can just break one tackle and have nobody to beat behind everyone else.
My team (attempts) balance defensively. Here's how I stop runs up the middle:
Two bronze space eating DTs - Fridge and Saleumua. They won't make many tackles themselves, but that's not their job. They will tie up blockers though (and their insane strength will usually prevent any sort of real offensive line push). Then I have Harry Carson as a silver ILB behind them.
Be careful about your blitzes. Most of the time against the run, you're better off calling more conservative plays. If you call aggressive blitzes and you push your LBs into blitz mode, yes, they might make the play - but if the RB can beat one of them, he's pretty much guaranteed a huge gain.
I mostly call defensive plays out of a base 4-3. 3-4 works well too, but since I have two DTs, I don't use it as a base formation. I do fine against runs with simple Man Under plays like this. I have my LBs on balance, and my D-line on Run Support.
Hope that helps at all

I also use LB's on balance. KingKRule how do you setup your generic Safety's? I have them against the run and have CB's coverage. Your thoughts?

What are the Man Under plays? I have one 3-4 Man Under play titled that but I do not see any others with that name. I have gone through the entire defensive playbook. So if the play is not titled Man Under what am I looking for to know it's man under?

Are you able to stop the run well?

Outside Runs: 4-4 Outside Fire 3
Inside Runs: Any Zone play, but manually move your LBs inside the tackles. 4-3 Strongside Zone blitz works well for any run middle or to the strongside, and any spear play where the S to the side of the run blitzes will work also.
