View Full Version : Anyone else notice jerky defensive movements?

What i mean is that on offense when i am controlling a player he moves like he should but when i am on defense and trying to control a player it is like trying to draw a circle with an etch a sketch. What i mean is that my defensive players are mushy (for lack of a better word). Even my legend defenders when i control them do not respond properly to the left stick movements and when i try to rush the qb it is like im sliding around on ice. I dont get this because in 2k5 offensive and defensive players moved equally well.
Anyone else notice this or am i just cRaZy?

So no one else is experiencing this? It makes playing defense futile and basically makes the defensive player your controlling worthless. hmm, i gotta get this figured out.

Yea, i think i know what you're saying. It seems to me that the momentum on defense is greater than when controlling your offensive players.
One thing i wish they would fix is when i go to tackle someone that i'm right next to and hit the stick sometimes he dives right past them. They need a better contact system so when your player is close you hit the stick and he actually reaches/tackles in the direction of the player. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.
One thing that i did notice however is to nudge the left stick if you're closing(ie. don't press fully in the pursuing direction.) This helps slow your tackler and reduce the momentum some. I usuually let the CPU tackle if it's a player i can switch to, i typically control the MLB always.

I would love to control the mlb or safety but it basically just takes them out of the play the way they move when i control them. I basically just try to steer them into a cpu defender with the player i control of switch to the cpu controlled defender right before impact so that they cant wiff.

My theory on it is more than likely you're fighting their actual assignment. So if you have a SS who's supposed to playing the middle of the field deep and you decide to manually bring him alongside the lb's and then try to cover the run with him your controls will be mushy. Versus taking the guy and actually changing his defensive assignment and then moving him towards his job. That's just my take on it and it seems to work for me. Also I like it because it makes you accountable for what the guy is supposed to be doing versus you just flying around with some dude without a care in the world.

your player will do what its assigned to do. If he's in a zone and your have him manually, If you dont take charge of him, he will drop into his zone automatically. The controls arent as responsive as 2k5, and thats a good thing. in 2k5 you can pretty much fly around as a DB and not have to worry about taking a bad angle. In this game, you have to worry about that. YOu have to be smart and use the strafe when pursuing the ball carrier. YOu cant just rush in at a crazy angle and make the tackle.
Alot of people are struggling with this. I at times do, but i have gotten better.

Some valid points here. I think your right about fighting the assignment because i do like to use one of the safeties that is suposed to be in zone and "rover" him but i still try to maintain that zones integrity as well.
The stranger thing is when its a run then the safety should move like anyone else be he still is mushy even after he should have long abandoned his assignment to go after the ball carrier. Also, when i try to rush the passer with an olb who is suposed to be blitzing they act mushy too. I havent played online much but in 2k5 there was an art to the parimeter speed rush but in this game they just mush right into the tackle to back everytime and dont even sniff the qb, even Derek Thomas who is a beast when i dont control him.
