View Full Version : My Big Question

Well, it's that time of year again...Wondering if either company will put out a hockey game that I won't return, frustrated, in a month. 2K6 and 2K7 were deeply flawed to the point of unplayability, and 06 and 07 from EA were children's arcade games. My biggest question for 2K8 is this...Have you people finally learned how to write for the next-gen systems, or are we doomed to constant freezes (2K7) and lame goaltending (2K6).
Before I get responses from people insisting that 2K7 didn't freeze for them, well you're the lucky ones. The game was fatally flawed and unplayable. Both systems...PS3 and 360...same problems. Since it runs fine and flawlessly on the PS2, one can only surmise that 2K Sports can't program for next-gen operating systems, nor will they admit as much. As far as I'm concerned, this is 2K's last opportunity to redeem themselves and produce a game that will allow you to play head-to-head and actually finish a game. Hey, every other developer on the planet can, at the very least, produce a game that doesn't freeze every time you play. Here's to hoping this is the year I can play hockey again.

Well, the freeze complaints with APF 2K8 are minimal, so that's something. But that's VC, not Kush. Me, I've reached the point where I don't buy 2K games anymore, until after I've read the user reviews for a couple of weeks.
Last year, I rented 2K7. And the gameplay was superior to NHL 07. But after hearing that people were having freeze problems again, I ended up buying NHL 07. I'd rather play a game that has inferior game play, than one I can't play, period... obviously :)

Unfortunately, 07 was just too childish for me to play, so I ended up abandoning all video game hockey for the second year in a row. I agree, 2K's gameplay was far superior to EA's, but you couldn't complete even one game. I play on-line and head-to-head, so I don't know if it froze in other game modes.
I will, this year, wait a month or so until some reviews are in and the flaws are exposed before I decide which game, if any, I'll overpay for. I won't even waste any money renting one, that's how disgusted I am with the garbage both companies put out every year.

I feel exactly the same way. I hated all the bugs in the last two 2k NHL games, and i hated the arcade style feel of EA sports hockey. I will rent both games when they come out, if EA has a good hockey sim and not an arcade game i'll buy it, if 2k8 has a PLAYABLE game then i'll buy that. I'm sick of not being able to play hockey.

Well, When you want to look at the BIG picture...
What has EA done? They stepped up their gaming franchise for hockey right? What does Kush have to do now? Right, step it up a notch too as to not get beaten.
If you really think they are going to add a deeper franchise mode, new facoffs, goalie animations, skating engine, pro stick, and a whole bunch of other stuff that we have no idea about, do you really think they are going to let the disaster of 2k7 going to redo itself? I think not. From what I know and learned over the years, when a game has many complaints about NOT PLAYING, that hurts your market A LOT. You don't want to put the same game out there into the industry because then the consumers won't buy it.
I will be buying 2k8 when it comes out. I WANT a deeper franchise mode, and realistic faceoffs. None of the repetitive years and button mashing faceoffs anymore!
Let's face it, 2k7 was a joke with cinemotion, but with 2k8's graphics and other boosts in game play, there is only 1 (ONE) hockey game that I will be buying September 3rd, 2007.
