I was in a season on APF and this was my team.
Gold:
Mike Singletary ILB
Reggie White DE
Silver:
Ken Stabler QB
Chuck Bednarik OLB
**** Anderson SS
Bronze:
Rob Moore WR
Pete Metzelaars TE
Dave Butz DT
Clyde Simmons DE
Albert Lewis CB
Terry McDaniel CB
O-line: Pass Block
D-line: Run Support
LB: Balanced
CB: Coverage
SS/FS: Coverage
QB: Balance
WR: Balance
RB: Finesse
We did good the first half of the season. I was sure i was going to the playoff. I went head to head with the best teams and beat them. I'm playing on "legend" by the way. Well second half of the season everything fell apart. The other teams just got too damn difficult to play. Even the generics for the other teams were stepping up. I couldn't even beat the worst team in the league last game of the season. By the way, this is the game that took my playoff hopes away. I ended the season with a record of 9-6-1. I guess i will start a new season with this same team, but i'm looking to make adjustments. Can i get some feedback on what people think i should do?

Well i'm starting a new season now. I changed the team a little bit. It looks like this:
Gold:
Mike Singletary ILB
Ronnie Lott FS
Silver:
Ken Stabler QB
Chuck Bednarik OLB
Too Tall Jones DE
Bronze:
Willie Gault WR
Wesley Walker WR
Pete Metzelaars TE
Dave Butz DT
Albert Lewis CB
Terry McDaniel CB
O-line: Pass Block
D-line: Run Support
LB: Run Support
CB: Coverage
SS/FS: Balanced
QB: Scrambler
WR: Possession
RB: Finesse
I dropped by Bronze DE and got another WR. I also replaced the WR Rob Moore i had during my first season and now have WR Willie Gault. I took My Gold DE Reggie White and placed a Gold FS in his place Ronnie Lott. And i took the Silver SS i had and replaced him with a Silver DE Too Tall Jones. I will try this once again...

You think it's tough then, wait till you get to the championship game. HOLY SMOKES they get tough. Generics stuffing your run like it was a whole D line of Deacon Jones and a whole LB crew made up of Singletary clones. And Montana looks like Jake the Snake out there. This guy is evading would be sacks like the plague. Not to mention him throwing his behind off. I swear I couldn't tell the difference between generics and stars. They all were getting a piece. I pulled out the win anyway though ;) LOL

First off you put most of your good players on defense and thats a no no. Need need to be able to score on the other team. Then I would've selected for my generic players to play like this.
O-line: Balanced
D-line: Balanced
LB: Run Support
CB: Coverage
SS/FS: Balanced
QB: scramble
WR: possession
RB: Power

im gonna have to disagree..... if you can play offense good without a ton of silver/gold guys then by all means use your good pciks on defense.
My offense is - Bernie Kosar, Don Maynard, Dwight Clark, and Natrone Means. I can score 28+ points a game easily.

I agree with you on this point. Any football game i played i always had a great defensive team and a sorry offense. And it always worked out for me. I'm use to just having a TE as my primary receiver since i always played with Ravens. That's why i built this team. But this time around i have 2 other recievers to help out. And i won't put my o-line balanced because i need as much protection as possible. I don't have a Legend RB so need my oline to pass block. I do run sometimes just to keep the D honest.

Well Game 1 on my new Season i played Randall Cunningham and his Miami Cyclones. They scored on the opening drive (error on my part). The rest of the Half was defense, both sides stopping each other. Lott FS should he was a good choice intercepting a pass. Halftime 7-0 Cyclones. 3rd quarter we still had problems on offense. They ended up scoring again during a blitze, Cunningham found his generic WR guarded 1 on 1 by my generic SS and the WR burned him once he caught the ball. This made the score 14-0. I didn't give up though. With 2 minutes left in the 3rd, i was determined to score before the 4th to give me a better shot at a come back. And I made my drive using every asset as possible, both WRs and my TE. And i got the touch down with 2 sec left in the quarter, 14-7. Their next drive they tried running the clock down running the ball. After we stopped them with 2:30 left, we began our next drive. Once again by any means we drove down the field. QB scrambling, short passes, 4th down attempts. Then being on the 2 yard line with seconds left (No RB to run it in), i passed the ball to my TE on a out route. The CB almost tippng the pass, it goes through him and into my TE hands for the TD. So we go to OT. They get the ball first, my defense made great stops, 4 and out. And we get the ball and once more my offense is on fire, not being stopped. We are running the clock down also to make sure they don't get a chance to score. We get inside their 10 but a clipping penalty push us back to the 25 yard line. And with 7 sec on the clock and no timeouts, i have to trust the leg of my generic kicker who missed one earlier about the same distance (he slipped). Well he nailed this one and we won our first gave of the season 17-14. Coming from a 14-0 deficit. And the defense held O.J. Simpson to 46 yards rushing, something i couldn't do before.

I dunno. I think the D is pretty tight in this game. I've found success after much tinkering with current line up (in sig-BTW I sub Robinson to a SS to have a legend on both sides of the field).

Yeah one of my teams had 4 legends on offense, and I managed to score 25+ a game easily. My defense actually accounted for a few problems. The only suggestion I can think of right now if you're not gonna get a legend RB is to make your generic guy power, not finesse. That way you don't need a lot of blocking for him.

I have found success with putting only 4 star players on offense and the rest on "D". Now I use different combonations of players, some all bronze offense, some gold/silver offense. Just mix and match until you get what YOU like. Fit it to your game style.

I would suggest using gold and silver picks on Dline and LBs. Like in real football, everything starts at the line of scrimmage. You could play vs Montana and Rice, but if Montana doesn't have time to throw, then Rice is useless.
I'd suggest Reggie White DE, Hampton DT, Tuggle ILB, Lloyd OLB plus Robinson FS and Waters SS with a Bronze DT or DE, then use other picks for Offense. Get a Gold Wr or TE, with a Bronze QB. Set your Oline to run support and expand your playbook with Tight formations.

One thing I noticed:
YOU HAVE NO RUNNING BACK!!! Not that you need one necessarily, but if you're gonna stack ur D up.. and then go with a passing attack??? That is sort of a no-no football strategy. You're used to Ravens, so why not go with a TE/RB unstead of TE/WR/WR?
TE/WR/RB would be better for you I'd think.
Also, setting your OLine to pass protect isn't always the best thing, even if you pass a lot. Reason I believe this is because, when you're the QB, you can move around the pocket, buy time, throw early, you can play QB well and makeup for the less protection.
Your running game now you have a Generic RB, with a pass blocking generic OLine. How you gonna use ball control and eat up the clock?

I like to keep my offensive line balanced because I ran and pass. That way if you manage to shut one down you'll have to still deal with the other. I also use a scrambling QB that way my line doesn't have to block for too long.

Actually though i have no running back i've been doing pretty good. I mean my generic runningback have came through for me, though he is in last place in the league for rushing, he still eats the clock when i need him too.
And i do agree, it would make more sense since i'm used to playing with Ravens that i should have an offense combination of QB/RB/TE/WR instead of QB/WR/WR/TE. But because i didn't have a real O-line i thought it would have been useless to have a RB. But you know what, if this team i have now doesn't workout, i will definitely do what you say and use that combination. I will just set my O-Line to either balance or run-block. I like this, thanks i don't know why i didn't think of this at all.

Well i want to thank everyone for their inputs. In the future i may consider what you have said, especially you Higgus, i love your idea. But as for now i still have the 2nd team i showed you already and i have and update:
Week 1: Bulldogs@Cyclones 17-14 W
Week 2: Bulldogs@Cobras 24-30 L (Accidently simulated)
Week 3: Firebirds@Bulldogs 3-10 W
Week 4: Minuteman@Bulldogs 7-14 W
WeeK 5: Bulldogs@Wasps 17-7 W
Week 6: Bulldogs@Iron Men 10-14 L
Week 7: Bulldogs@Federals 28-7 W
Week 8: Americans@Bulldogs 20-7 L
Week 9: Bulldogs@Top Guns 31-26 W (Accidently simulated)
Week 10: Bulldogs@Cougars 37-17 W
Week 11: Iron Men@Bulldogs 17-21 W
Week 12: Bulldogs@Firebirds 20-3 W
Week 13: Iron Men@Bulldogs 14-20 W
Week 14: Assassins@Bulldogs 28-14 L (Accidently simulated)
Week 15: Knights@Bulldogs
Week 16: Federals@Bulldogs
So my new team has a record of 10-4. We have clinched Division Title, trying to Clinche Home Field with these last 2 games. As of now i have the #1 ranked defense, but the offense is ranked last. So my second team has made it further than my orignal team already.

Cleveland Bulldogs@New Jersey Assassins
The beginning of the game starts as a defensive game, nobody scores in the 1st quarter. Then with my QB (Ken Stabler) throwing 2 interceptions, NJ scores 2 FG before the half. 6-0 Halftime New Jersey Assassins. 3rd quarter my Bulldogs still hasn't got their act together, scoreless. NJ scores another FG making the score at the end of 3 quarters 9-0.:thumbsdow Then Bulldogs next drive, Stabler moves the team down field pass after pass. Finally scoring a touchdown with 3:53 remaining, 9-7. NJ is stopped next drive with 2:17 left on the clock. Ken Stabler once again drives his team down the field. Thanks to a Pass Interference at the Goaline, Bulldogs able to run the ball in with :38 left, 9-14. Then the Kickoff: The Assassins Bobby Mitchell runs back a 95 yard kick return leaving :22 on the clock.:( The go for 2 point conversion and miss, 15-14. After Kickoff, :17 left on the clock. First pass down field Stabler connects with Metzelaars for a 50 yard play, tackled at the 26 yard line, Bulldogs use last timeout and there is only :6 left. The FG team comes out. And Nate Conway (K) nails the ball down the middle for the win. :D
Cleveland Bulldogs advance to Conference Finals!
