I DONT THINK IT'LL OUTSELL ALL-PRO FOOTBALL JUST THE FACT MADDEN HAS FRANCHISE AND LICENSE FOR NFL, PEOPLE LOVE TO PLAY WITH NFL TEAMS SO EVERYONE WILL BUY MADDEN I PERSONALLY WILL BUY MADDEN EVEN THOUGH I LIKE ALL-PRO BETTER BUT I REALLY WANT TO PLAY WITH SOME NFL TEAMS, SO I DONT THINK IT WILL OUTSELL MADDEN I HOPE ALL-PRO DO WELL AND MAKE ANOTHER GAME NEXT YEAR.

No chance at all. Why would anyone even think APF would outsell the #1 selling game last year and all-time. Its just a reality regardless if you love or hate Madden. Name recognition, history, the NFL license are all big reasons why Madden will still be one of the top selling games this year (if not #1 again for any genre). APF sold 100,000 copies in the first two weeks and if they don't drop the price it won't sell more than 200,000. NCAA sold over 500,000 copies on the 360 alone the first two weeks and Madden will probably sell over 1,000,000 in its first week. APF just needs to make money and some of you guys should just forget about Madden.

Use this link to track weekly sales: http://www.vgchartz.com/aweekly.php

APF (360 only) has sold 88,000 copies to date.
NCAA (360 only) has sold 517,000 copies to date.
The PS3 versions are significantly lower.

Stalinist tactics by EA are the only reason they will outsell 2k8. It's sad that the lemmings of the gaming world will fork over $60 for a roster update packaged in a nice facade. I've played Madden for 15 years and never played 2k5 since I was a Madden fanboy at the time. This exclusive rights garbage has turned me off to EA completely and they squandered any chance of winning me over with inferior products since illegally (imho) obtaining said license. I just hope the game rewiewers (who seem to be in bed with EA) will be just as tough on Madden 08 as they were for 2k8. They will probably give Madden an 8.5 and say stuff like "Wow..improved framerate!".

that tough thing about the sales is that madden is everywhere. thats what people mainly see.

go to www.yahoo.com and check the entertainment tab.

The NFL wanted to do a exclusive with EA not the other way around. Why would you not do this if they are practically begging for a deal with EA. You guys need to open your eyes this is big business. All these companies want to do is make money none of them care about the gamers. Once corporate business gets its hand on something its down hill from there just like
the music industry.

I agree that this is corporate business, but there is such a thing as a class action lawsuit and Anti trust violations.

A few years ago, MS got sued by AOL/Nectape during the Internet browser dispute. Although MS eventually won the browser war, but they were still held in violation on Antitrust laws. Monopolies are not generally held in high regard by the court system. Im really surpirsed that 2k sports in conjunction with disenfranchised gamers haven't at least considered some type of lawsuit. Maybe some of the legend in 2k8 could help apply pressure on the NFL to NOT renew the license with EA. It is obvious that the monopoly status that EA purchasd hasn't resulted in a better product.

I seriously doubt theyd win that lawsuit.....but the NFL is free to opt of of the contract at any given moment....they wont though, they dont care about video games, just where the money is coming from and EA has plenty

Xeres123
August 8th, 2007, 10:56 AM
People doubted that Bell Telephone Company would lose their lawsuit, but they did. MS was forced to include a competing browser on all there new computers for a while after they lost their Antitrust suit. Maybe Jerry Rice and some other legends can convince the players union to do something. 2k8 did a great service to former NFL players with this game and it would be nice to see them rewarded for their creativity.

Current NFL players DO care about video games so I am of the persuasion that something can be done about this toxic NFL/EA Monopoly.

EA has deep pockets and exclusive deals are everywhere now. EA could drag out any potential court case and really hurt TT which is in a bit of financial trouble. This totally sucks for the consumer and the NFL doesn't even care. All they care about is cash and EA gave them a boatload for the license. 2K needs to stop with the facade that they didn't put 32 teams in APF to make nice with the NFL. They aren't getting the license back so they should put 32 teams in the next game with full customization and a franchise mode. Let fans import logos and recreate the NFL if they want. Many people like APF and should have this right. Losing the NFL license really hurts. Keep some legends but if you gave people the ability to customize everything you could have Legends football, NFL football, etc.

that's only because everybody knows 2k has the better basketball game.. even hardcore ea fans prefer 2k basketball.

madden keeps ea alive

at least 2k *the publisher* has released a lot of good games this year.. if you also count non sports titles

2k has every other sport on lock.. but for some reason they cant make most madden fans care about their product. and like a lot of other people have said.. i think it has to do with no nfl

my advice to 2k.. put so many features in 2k10 it'll make our heads spin. you cant release just a football game and expect to compete.. and dont get me wrong.. i think 2k8 is good for what it is.. a football game for online play

i love dat u mentioned the service to former players...it's great to see these guys get represented to younger people...i've seen a few posts from teens who actually went up and looked up these greats...i'm not a teen but even i hadn't heard of some of the guys...and they deserve to get a chance to shine even if it is in a video game...lol. sadly, we all know Madden will do it's usual numbers....sigh...

APF 2k8 will not outsell Madden. Don't get me wrong. I would love to see APF outsell Madden and have EA shaking in their shoes. But without a franchise mode or multi season mode and a few upgrades to the graphics and marketing group. Madden will be on top. NFL 2k5 showed Madden a thing or two. Let's just hope next years edition ( if there will be one ) will have what football gaming needs.

the madden commercial says they have 30 million sold already

Madden looks like it plays like ncaa this year
and i really didnt like the way when you tackle someone, somebody else jumps on and drags them past the first down marker

or the way their double tackles, looks like the players just fall on the player runnning wit the ball

EA is already shaking in their shorts. Remember that article someone posted a while back about EA wanting to make sure APF is not repeatable? And APF2K8 is not even a complete game! We all know all companies are out to make money, but EA has proven that they want to be the ONLY ones to make money, and have a big problem with competition. Most companies will take competition and use it as motivation to create better product, but not EA, they'd rather buy it out so they don't have to work.

How would other companies sound if they wanted to stop another company from poducing a competing product? I can't stand Madden Football, but I hate EA as a company even more, they have done NOTHING with the exclusive deal like they said they would, but you can tell by the sales, that they don't have to; just add gimmicks every year to make the sheep come back and the easily reach their sales goals. Add this, to the fact that NFL stars play Madden and people will see that and want to play it too. In addition, many times you are watching a sporting event or show many times they will show the replay in the corresponding EASports game. No way in h*ll APF will outsell Madden, the game has too many blind sheep and EA's pockets are too deep for them to actually care about improving the game and as long as they attract their many sheep, their happy. But fans like us who go against the grain of what everyone else likes, will clearly see that APF has much better gameplay than Madden has ever had.

I know, I used to be a Live Fanboy and bought the game every single year, until one year I realized how much the game sucked. I then began to wonder why I spent 50+ on this game every year. Even that was 2 or 3 years before I tried the NBA 2K series for the first time. After trying the NBA 2K series about 4 years ago, I was hooked and wondered how I played that Live crap for years.

APF has a solid foundation of superior gameplay, they just need more options for the game to be successful. "Successful" is a relative term, because as good as this game is or will be in the future I don't see it outselling Madden anytime soon.

Yes good point without franchise mode APF won't even come close to Madden sales. I don't think 2K5 came close to Madden sells that year but it did catch a lot of peoples attention and grabbed some thunder from EA plus converted a few over. If EA didn't get exclusive rights to the NFL, I think Madden would be the one playing catch up to 2K football!

Actually, sports gaming company's have done studies/surveys and less than 1% of consumers who purchase sports titles actually play the franchise mode.

I don't think "franchise mode" is going to make or break sales figures for a company.

The bottom line is we are seeing the power of branding every year.

The same reason why people buy Coca Cola even though people prefer the taste of Pepsi during "taste tests"..

NJake

I doubt that suvey... because probably around 70% of the people who play videogames dont have xbox live, so they have nothing else to play other than a type of franchise mode.

I have xbox live, and I still play Franchise mode for any sports title I play

I doubt anybody really plays franchise mode, and if they do, for how long? I've never played more than one season in any sport game, in madden i never got passed 6 games. It's not the same as 2 player competition, once you have the CPU figured out, there is no point in playing .

Well then by that rationale alone 2K football should outsell Madden every year just by having online leagues alone! I know I love franchise and me and a few buddies play both NCAA and Madden franchise and usually go 15 to 20 seasons deep....

Not really, most people just like the way Madden plays. I mean, i have to admit the way Madden plays is a fun factor game, but i prefer 2K.

I don't know anybody that play that many damn seasons. The most i ever played was 10 seasons and that was for 2K5. The times i played Madden before that, and Madden 06 and 07, i never played more than 2 or 3 seasons. After i start winning the Superbowl every year it gets boring. It's fun playing against people though because you have to adjust to that persons style of play.

If you read most review sites the reason APF is getting lower scores than Madden is because there is no replay value or more specifically lack of a franchise mode. Think about it why would someone who doesn't play online at all even buy this game?

NJake

If NCAA destroyed APF in sales ........

Many people I know held back in buying APF because of no franchise and not making it customizable enough.Once 2k knows it won't get the license, which is pretty obvious, they should allow us to get as close to recreating the NFL as they can.

Many would convert with NFL teams/players and 2k gameplay.
