View Full Version : Bronze Pick Dilemma

I've been changing my team around a bit and could use a little input. Here's my team:

Gold
OLB Derrick Thomas
CB Rod Woodson

Silver
HB Ottis Anderson
ILB Jessie Tuggle
DE Elvin Bethea

Bronze
QB Jim Harbaugh
WR Ricky Sanders
TE Pete Metzelaars
DT Dan Saleaumua
CB Albert Lewis
???????

Looks like I have few weapons on offense, but I get the job done and I love a tough defense. For that last bronze pick I'm having some thoughts but am not sure...I could use some input.

I originally had G Steve Wisniewski, but playing yesterday learned I can do just as well without any O line(line is set to run block, silver or gold DEs do annoy me when passing, but I manage).

I tried Charlie Waters, and he was good, always around the ball and making tackles...but I think I may need another offensive weapon(and I've done pretty well with generic safeties). I don't throw a lot(maybe 15-18 atts per game) since I always establish Ottis, and Ricky and Metzelaars are enough for receiving options to me.

So do I grab another WR(Rob Moore or Dwight Clark prolly)? If so, who? Do I pick Korey Stringer to watch my blind side? Or do I take Charlie Waters or another D lineman to complete my defense?

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I would change something around to have a fs and ss or at least one of the two. Brutal trying to stuff tough offense with no safetys. eugene robinson great bronze safety

also mixed it up and got bronze WR Rick upchurch last night and was amazed at his speed and great return ability. through to him 8 times and never dropped one.

Yea, Robinson or if you get lucky and get Rich Killian(generic SS) i would try a 2nd WR. Btw, Killian is at least a bronze level generic, for me anyway.

I had Killian on one of my teams and he was crazy. I had no idea generics played like that before I got him. I'll never forget his name after all the times the anouncers said it after a good play.

Generic CB Morales is fast and good. When creating a team when you are going in to select generic grouped players and watch for the players number. they never change, for instance when I create a new team I know Morales is number 26, he is the only #26 in the CB's he is in the pass support grouping always. Hence you can make sure you get the generic players you want.

just play to your strengths. and start off by trying to make your team balanced. good rule of thumb is to pick players that have special attributes that just make u think "heyyy, i think that would realy work with the way i play the game."

Yeah I play to my strengths, which is a run heavy offense and a shut down defense. And I'm debating on if I use that bronze pick for a safety to complete my defense or on offense in the form of a receiver or lineman...

I have Morales on my current squad but he's the 3rd CB. I have Barney and a generic named Simpson who's been gettin it done on the weak side for me. I may give morales a shot if simpson starts blowing donkeys.

I'm far from an expert, but here's my $.02:

I'd switch to a gold HB and make your OLB a silver, just because gold HBs are so good in this game, and silver OLBs are no slouches.

For your last bronze you might consider a T to either help your running game or help slow down the pass rush of all-star DEs. I know you said you don't think you want any O-line stars, but a T really makes a difference.

Since you have an all-star TE I don't think you need another WR because you already have two good passing targets (three counting your HB).

Also, I've found that the bronze DEs perform very well, so you might consider dropping your silver DE to a bronze and using that silver slot for a safety or moving your QB or WR up.

Overall your team already looks pretty darn good. Very similar to the teams I make.

Thanks for the input RedZeppelin. The only gold HB I've tried was Barry Sanders, but once I tried Ottis Anderson I kinda never looked back. I liked Barry and all(you can tell by the avatar) but I think workhose is my favorite ability thus far.

Only gold HB I'd prolly try would be Emmitt. Not sure how he is thoughh, haven't heard too much.

Dunno about a safety now, either. When I play zone I drop my CBs deep and the safeties cover the post routes. I will try out a few more gold rbs before I start trying to decide...

Jesse Tuggle-I have had him on a couple of different occasions on my teams and I think he is a wasted silver pick. Dont get me wrong he is good, But I have found with pepper johnson, ken norton and even olb carl banks do everything he can do and there bronze. You want a hard hitting silver you cant go wrong with, Joey Browner. DUde is just bad and will make the tough run stops up the middle from safety . then you pick bronze 4 ILB.
Pepper Johnson and ken norton are faster than tuggle. I think

I just picked up Emmit Smith the other day so I've only played one game with him, but so far I really like him.

redbull I play 360. With earl the key is to shoulder charge or stiffarm. real tough to bring down once you get the timing for these moves down

redzep- emmitt is tough to bring down played against him last night. the only problem i saw is once I shut is counters and inside run game down he was throwing cause emmitt is not fast enough to get aroun the corners seemed a litlle slow. but pretty solid through the holes

I've tried Norton and Pepper before. I've seen Pepper get blown up trying to make a tackle a few times. Ken Norton is a monster vs the run and I really liked him, but he was awful in pass coverage when I dropped him back in coverage(which I do often). Tuggle does both fairly well for me, but I've been trying Mecklenburg a bit and kinda like him, too.

LOve Meck Guy shuts down the run and is solid against the pass. Hence the GT meck77.LOL. And you are absolutly right Pepper does get blown up sometimes but he's fast. if hes there I can switch and make a big hit. I have Ken norton right now and i dont think i would get rid of him for pepper. Just saying it opens up a silver with a comprable bronze ILB.
My stallions team.

Yeah I'll try out a few more bronze ilbs. Maybe practice Ken Norton in a few more passing situations to see what he does. And I didn't realize that about Meck and your gt, lol, that's awesome. I used him a few times and he does shut down the run and made some nice plays defending the pass. Prolly try him out a lil more, too.

I think out of all the created teams and combinations I've went with, the 2 players I would not go without is Joey browner and Lem barney. Both solid against run and pass both fast and Joey Browner crushes more people than ronny lott, and he is a silver. Ronnie is a gold.

I have heard good things about Browner. I haven't tried him out yet though(I prolly will tonight). I've used Lem Barney before, also. He's good, but not the kind of corner I like. Don't get me wrong, he's an int machine, but I've seen him whiff on some big plays because he went for the int and didn't play the receiver.

I have played against Browner like twice offline, and he blew me up on runs a couple of times...I quickly learned to avoid him.

Yeah, he seemed much slower than Sanders or Payton, but I prefer power running over speed. And if someone shuts down the inside run I'll try a few screens to get him outside. I'm just testing him though, so I may not keep him. I haven't yet found a roster I'm 100% satisfied with. Heh.

Here is my two cents .... I didn't read everything, so forgive me if I repeat anything.

Since you like a solid defense, spend your gold, 2 silvers and at least 3 bronzes on D. (just like you have done)

With your other silver, pick a QB or HB. Your choice, but I normally go QB, as you'll see why in a moment. With your bronze, pick a WR, TE, and either the QB or HB (whichever you didn't pick on silver). I usually end up with a silver QB to make sure that I can get the ball to the bronze WR and TE.

I would personally move your silver DE to a bronze end. Simmons or Manley and then pick up Browner in the silver SS slot. He is an animal and will more than make up for dropping your DE to bronze.

One of my team has 2 gold corners, 2 silver OLBs and 2 bronze DEs. Between the DE's and OLB's, I do a pretty good job of shutting down the run. Then they have to throw at two gold corners. I am about to take my bronze G away and add another player on D, since as you have already seen, the lineman don't seem to do that much on offense.

You're right, Brad Van Pelt is great. I played with him a few times and he's got some hussle out there I'll give him that, but the way I've been picking I don't think I'll be taking him again.
